Keep hydrated, eat 5 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack inbetween) this keeps your sugar levels more stable rather than highs and lows on the sugar rollercoaster and walk 10 minutes daily... et voila... smile

I kept a Spanish style fan in every handbag, very cooling and quite elegant too smile

Cut down on the alcohol and plenty of exercise to release the good endorphins and chase away the mood swings!

suzieo1 Tue 03-Apr-18 23:08:18

Try not to focus on it too much and get on with your life as best as possible. That is my best advice

Have a warm shower morning and night to make you feel fresh and ready to take the world on in the morning and at night to help you sleep

gizmos12 Wed 04-Apr-18 04:32:22

Stay cool at all times in mood and what you are wearing

Have a bottle of spray water to hand all over the house.

Take time for yourself, it's ok to put your feet up and relax and look after you!

zeenie Wed 04-Apr-18 09:39:04

Having the bedroom window open (just a crack if it's cold), keeping a bottle of water by the bed and dressing onion-style - i.e. layers that can be taken on or off as needed. Having said that, thankfully I had little problems with menopause and - being a person who often feels cold - I sometimes didn't mind the odd hot flush. grin

My top tip is light layered clothing, the hot flushes are horrendous. I'm only just heading into all of the symptoms and luckily haven't experienced the night sweats yet, but I'm very keen on learning as much as I can about how to improve my quality of life whilst I'm in this transition.

audreyspratt Wed 04-Apr-18 10:05:53

I have a Mirena foil implanted which helps with the symptoms. I try to wear loose cotton clothing in bed and eat and drink healthily

Keep cool comes up in most of these threads! I like to get outside, sometimes I can only walk slowly but other days faster. Even 10 minutes round the block lifts my spirits. Occasionally I can keep walking for an hour or so.

Dump the duvet, cool cotton sheets and an industrial fan by the bed!! Heaven ♥️♥️ even better with a tub of Ben and Jerrys ?

sylwright Wed 04-Apr-18 16:38:04

Definitely wearing layers of clothes which can be removed when needed. Also I always had a cooling spray in my handbag and it worked wonders when I felt hot.

Handbag full of tampons of every size for when you suddenly come on unexpectedly.

Having given birth to a beautiful daughter at 42 and having two sons aged 9 and 6 I sort of sailed through the menopause without really noticing it - I was so busy lol
So I would defo recommend a late baby - planned or surprise !

Keep positive. There is nothing happening to us that hasn't happened to our mothers and aunts before us. We will get through it just as they did. Keep cool, stay hydrated, eat well and maintain a sense of humour. Don't let your husband open the window because you are hot - by the time he gets there you will be cold. Get used to wearing a cardigan with one sleeve in and one sleeve out! Just keep breathing!

Carolann99 Wed 04-Apr-18 18:34:16

Wear natural fabrics, cotton, silk etc and layer a blouse or t-shirt & a cardigan that you can unbutton or remove when a hot moment strikes

kath4 Wed 04-Apr-18 18:38:49

I can a fan in my handbag...,you can look sophisticated whilst cooling down ?

Daph Wed 04-Apr-18 18:38:53

I have found no solutions, I still have hot flushes and am now 61, I feel as if I have wasted most of ny life

Emmamaryd Wed 04-Apr-18 18:41:46

Diet, exercise and try and keep as cool as possible

Jule44 Wed 04-Apr-18 18:59:09

When I dry my hair in the morning I start by pressing the cold button on the dryer, it cools my scalp and stops me sweating. I continue to dry my hair as usual and then finish with a cold burst to the scalp. The cool feeling lasts for quite a while. I also use the cold dryer if I’m having a hot flush at home, try it, it works wonders ?

Let people know how you are feeling so they are aware if you are having a 'tropical moment'. It takes the embarrassment away and they will understand.
