Hold the right thought. It won’t last forever. Take HRT if you are able.

I'm a firm believer in drinking a lot of water, keep yourself hydrated. Water is the key to success.

Always keep a folding fan in your bag. Use black strap molasses to increase iron and ease menstrual flow. Soak feet in Epsom salt foot bath. Keeps me calmer. Use a menstrual cup. This is brilliant for when my period seems to go on for days on end.

Some gentle walks always makes me feel better and I am thinking of taking up yoga too.
I did go to Tai Chi for a while but there was too much drama within the group so I stopped that.
Pleasant places with pleasant people.

My daughter bought me a lovely fan from Japan a few years ago. I now take it everywhere with me for my hot moments smile

By a 'Chillow' pillow - great for those hot moments at night.

loose free-flowing clothes to be comfortable in, a fan, and notepad to write down your thoughts and as a memory aide!

Take supplements. Calcium will boost bone health, while Vitamin E can help with night sweats and vaginal dryness. Also evening primrose oil. It is really good for bloating, breast discomfort and irritability.

Layer your clothes and invest in a really decent deodorant.

I've found that alcohol can trigger increased hot flushes at night so I've reduced my intake considerably.

I have also purchased two large cool gel pads which I can use when a hot flush strikes; I have two as they do warm up and I can interchange them. If you don't have a gel pad, a hot water bottle filled with cold water will work just as well.

HRT and a good diet is a good start

Wear layers so that you can peel one off when required and replace it until the next one comes. Drink plenty of water. Red wine made me sweat more during the night. Avoiding it did help.

I found that drinking sage tea helped with the hot flushes and wearing loose layers of clothing.

Chesterwizzy1 Tue 03-Apr-18 16:02:51

Don't be embarrassed if hot flushes bother you in company, just say you are having a tropical moment!

liztay Tue 03-Apr-18 16:03:49

A fan in my bedroom all year round!

indesit Tue 03-Apr-18 16:16:34

I always found one of the best remedies was Red Clover (a naturally occurring product), which can be purchased in high-street stores. Obviously some extra help during these stages is needed. i.e.: a health store. And of course Liz Earle's (MBE) latest book - a must read.

My tip is to wear loose clothing and layers and when you feel a flush coming on just remove a layer, tight clothing is a definite no no

tigga Tue 03-Apr-18 18:44:23

after having a hysterectomy and ovaries removed i wasnt looking forward to the onset of menopause instead i looked forward to coming out the other end being positive helps, keeping fit and careful diet no spice foods and wholemeal biscuits are a joy when your menopausal and the light at the end of the tunnel No Periods .

Always wear non restricting clothes and if you feel a bit 'flushed' excuse the pun, I mean money wise go and have a shopping spree, sure works for me!
