It's that time of year again (hurrah) and time for our best reads for Christmas page...great gift ideas to cater for every taste. Recommendations include fiction, non-fiction, cookery, quizzes and more.

And one very lucky person can win the lot...worth almost £600.

Simply tell us on this thread which gift you are most looking forward to giving this Christmas. It can be big, small, homemade, expensive or free. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Usual Gransnet terms and conditions apply. A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Wednesday 12 December.

I am most looking forward to giving my mum her gift, she has loved a beautiful pair of suede gloves for a long time now but never treats herself to anything as she much prefers to buy for others. I can't wait to see her face when she opens them!

I am most looking forward to giving my first (and likely only) grandchild her present. It's such a wonderful first for me, the present itself isn't the important thing, but just having this darling 5 month old on my lap (she'll probably play with the wrapping anyway!)

My lovely little mom has dementia now and I've spent this year looking into our family trees for and am busy typing up what I've found and want to present this to my mom in a nice album for Christmas. I did find some old photos to go with this and I am really hoping she finds this as intriguing and thoughtful as I did when doing this! Happy Christmas to my lovely little mom! xx

I am looking forward to getting my sons favourite picture reframed after it was damaged with mould/damp after his flat was flooded in storm Desmond. His face will be my best present as he doesn't think I will get it done in time.

My father has dementia and every day is a struggle for him and mum. He's never really been big on Christmas gifts but I'm trying to find a dark Toblerone for him. Of all the gifts he gets, the dark Toblerone is always his favourite and he squirrels it away and has a little tiny bit every couple of days.

I am so looking forward to having all my family coming. It is not actually AT Christmas but near enough. I am giving extra little surprise presents which I am sure they will all enjoy. It will just be so lovely to all be together for the first time in many years.

My aunt is an amazing woman and is kindly hosting Christmas dinner for us this year. She works for the NHS as a nurse in A&E and has often wondered just how much walking she does on a typical shift. As she is also enthusiastic about staying fit and healthy I have got her a Misfit Shine 2 fitness tracker - an ebay bargain! This tracker is ideal as it can be pinned on or just put in a pocket (as well as worn as a watch) Perfect for a nurse!

My 2 year old granddaughter loves the toy kitchen at playgroup. I have bought her one for Christmas, which I know, she will have fun with.

I have bought Becoming by Michelle Obama for my eldest daughter and I think she's going to love it.
For each of my grandchildren who can read - as well as a fun toy, I have bought the book '101 small ways to change the world'. We get together as a family every weekend and I am hoping that there will be much discussion around this book as the year progresses, what they have each tried to do to make the world a better place.
