Helping my Grandad plant seedling veg out in the garden, I got to use the dibber and it made me feel like I was doing a proper job with him. Then we would stop and have some homemade lemon squash and doorstep cheese sandwich's.
I still miss him even though he be long gone.

Climbing trees and ‘helping’ my Dad when I could persuade him to take me with him to his farm job, I loved it all, particularly anything involving vehicles.

I remember my Mum making my brother and I a tent with brooms and a old pink bedspread, my brother had his peddle car and I had my dolls and tea set , and we had a lovely time playing together.

Playing on the field opposite where there was a huge stone which became everything from the dinner table to the Indian hideout

A walk in the country with a bottle of water and some sandwiches. If in season - blackberry picking!

Willow3 Fri 05-Apr-19 12:56:31

Knocking on doors and asking to take other peoples dogs for a walk. Then I would take the dog for a lovely walk in the local fields sometimes with my friend too.

Following the chirps of a cricket until I found it nestled in the grass. Then carefully cupping it in my hands before letting it jump to freedom.
Snail races!

My favourite game as a child was knock down ginger. Not a nice game knocking on people's doors and running away but me and my friends, all aged about 8 loved it. Oh for the days when kids could play in the streets with no worries. Best days. X

Playing a game called A destroyed with all of my family on a sunday afternoon. I learnt to play in germany when i was 6 and have loved it ever since. My brother once dressed up as my grandma and hobbled down the street with a walking stick so i wouldnt recongise him an beat him. Once he got level with me he burst into a sprint and beat me to the 'A' and destroyed it.

Roller skates, I went everywhere on then, right up until I was about 15 when my mum decided I was too old for them and gave them away.

Making the most delightful perfume! Lol ! Gathering rose petals, breaking them up with stones and blending with tap water, we would select the very best old brown pill bottles and fill them up with our hand-made perfume and try to sell them for sweet money! We honestly thought it was brilliant. Good times.

Riding my bike to my Grandad's and helping him feed the chickens or plant seeds and help in the garden. Or, going to an outdoor pool with my friends and their mam once a week in the summer. Or going to the swimming club. All favourites.

My favourite outdoor activity was going to our local woods, exploring, climbing trees and building a camp with my friends. We would go off on our bicycles for the day - sadly not something that children can do safely nowadays.

My favourite outdoor activity as a child was lying on my tummy teasing ant lions by disturbing their sandy traps. With my grandad by my side.

In case people don't know what an ant lion is smile

Picking peas with my grandad on his allotment.

I used to roam the fields for hours on end with my friends, picking blackberries, building dens, playing 'army', cowboys and Indians, hide and seek, only coming home grubby when starving. Real Enid Blyton adventures. Happy days that seemed never-ending at the time.

hilarylister Fri 05-Apr-19 13:31:56

Wandering around my dad's farm and getting up to all kind of mischief!

seemercloud Fri 05-Apr-19 13:33:31

Climbing the tree in my garden. I'm not sure whether it was because of the love of climbing or the possibility of chatting to the boy next door!

grannydarkhair Fri 05-Apr-19 13:34:11

Probably sounds a bit sad, but my favourite outdoor activity was going for a walk. My Mum worked in a jute mill, had gone by the time my Gran woke me every morning for school. If it was a nice evening during the week, after our meal, we'd walk to the local library. Sundays, weather depending, we'd go for a walk somewhere, e.g. one of the city parks or along the Esplanade. Sometimes, catch "the Ferry" across to Fife, have a wee picnic. When my older brother came home from the RAF, he bought a car and our Sunday walks turned into days out somewhere a bit more distant. Then I got a (much wanted) dog for my 12th birthday, walked many a mile with him. Mum, brother and dog all long gone now, but still have my wonderful happy memories.

I loved pottering about at the beach looking for treasure ... Things like interesting pebbles, shells and other bits and pieces washed up in the tide. I spent many hours doing this.
