Being a horse or riding a horse. My friends and I arrived at school on imaginary horses, tied them to the fence and rode round the field at play times and lunch times. Miranda on TV galloping brought back so many memories!

On a rainy day I used to like making scrapbooks with pictures out of magazines, making up a dream home.
On sunny days it used to be on the beach, making sandcastles decorated with shells, pebbles and seaweed.

Two balls with my friend. We used to spend hours playing this against the back door after school. It drove my mother mad with the constant thud of the balls.

I was born in the 50s raised in the Manchester. In the 60s after the 'slum clearance' we moved into a new council house, which was surrounded by building sites which for a 8yr old tomboy was bliss. Builders sand mixed in cement mixers, scaling scaffolding were a daily adventure. Exploring derelict buildings, making dens on waist land were the best times, safe? certainly not, many accidents did happen. Not the most appropriate of play, but I would not change it for anything.

Playing 'two balls' up the wall. 'Jacks' on the pavement, making tunnels out of the bales of hay in the field opposite our house. Playing 'Please Farmer Brown may we cross your stream of coloured water?' The child playing Farmer Brown would shout out a colour and if you were wearing that colour you could stroll across the 'stream' (usually a road or lane) if not you got chased and possibly caught!
