Cinderella. She was kind and put upon, her step sisters selfish. But she got to go to the ball and the Prince fell in love with her. He so wanted to find her again that he searched th e whole of the land to find the foot the glass slipper fitted. Ah, so romantic! And showing that kindness gets paid in the end

The Little Matchgirl. A sad one but it mesmerised me when I was younger. I longed to help her and couldn’t understand why the adults passing her by didn’t. It still brings tears to my eyes now!

The Ugly Duckling because I hoped one day to be rid of my freckles which I did!

I always enjoyed Cinderella. She was a charming heroine, with two ugly sisters who were mean to her.

When Cinderella met Prince Charming and they became devoted to each other, it made a lovely dream that every girl could win her dream.

The Emperor's New Clothes. As a child, and now grown up I always seem to speak too plainly for those around me. What's wrong with plain, honest speaking ? Say what you see and shame the devil.

Snow White and the seven dwarfs as I always felt sorry for the dwarfs when they came home

My favourite fairy tale was Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. I used to imagine myself as Snow White and my brothers and sisters were the dwarves.

I used to love Enid Blyton's tales of pixies , elves and faries. My favourite was a book called Pip, I kept it into adulthood , before it got lost. In the front was a dedication'Love from Mummy, Christmas 1967' It was a magical book and thinking back on it now makes me think what the children of today have lost.

jhm27 Thu 19-Sept-19 16:28:19

Cinderella. I loved the thought of having a fairy godmother who could make all my dreams come true.

brownbunny17 Thu 19-Sept-19 17:17:03

Cinderella, I loved the beautiful dresses . But liked the fact she
got the Prince in the end, after being treated horribly by the step sisters and step mother

GabriellaG54 Thu 19-Sept-19 17:17:46

Hansel and Gretel. My children loved the idea of a trail of bread to help them find their way out of the wood but was sad when it was eaten by woodland creatures.
Whenever we went for walks after that story, he'd collect gravel beforehand (one time it was soil in his pockets ??) or draw a landmark (post box or tree) in a notebook to be sure he could find his way home.

My favourite was from a book called Old Peters Russian Fairy Tales and it was the story of a witch called Baba Yaga who lived in a hut that walked on chickens legs!
I loved all of the stories in that book and remembered many by heart! so told them to my own children and grandchildren from memory!

Kate63 Thu 19-Sept-19 17:54:55

I loved Peter Pan and still do. The idea of flying, fairies the whole thing. I have bought the story for each of our grandchildren. Why should any of us grow up!

Doreen5 Thu 19-Sept-19 18:05:46

Hansel and Gretal

Aepgirl Thu 19-Sept-19 18:15:20

Peter Pan. I went to see it at The Scala theatre every year and saw a variety of young women play Peter. How I loved it when we all had to clap if we ‘believed in fairies’ when Tinker Bell was failing fast. Oh the joy when she recovered!
