When my youngest Grandaughter was very small it was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We both read it together so often we didn't need the book in the end ! We knew it word for word.

The Borrowers. - Aloft, Afloat - wherever. Fascinating little people .
We love how they find the huge world of humans and how they use our belongings.
When I was a tot reading this with grandma - I wanted to shrink so as to have their adventures.

My 3 year old grandson is train & bus mad, and loves anything Thomas the tank engine related, especially stories about Henry (his namesake) and or Bertie the bus.

Any Thomas story as my Grandson adores Thomas

Paddington Bear because he's a little treasure that brings a lot of pleasure. He's ageless, timeless and his antics and mishaps bring lots of excitement that end with a smile!

She's 17 months old. Fvourite books are the "10 Little..." series at the moment.

I would read The Tiger who came to tea to my grandson, who is only 18 months old but I am sure he would enjoy the voices I use when telling the story. I like to be silly and entertaining as I think it adds to the magic that reading can bring. My son loved Thomas and his friends and now i am hoping that his son will too. He will if i have anything to do with it. He certainly loves watching him on the telly but he has yet to discover the pure joy of a story like Thomas!.

The last time my grandson stayed the night (before lockdown) the favourite book was "Spider Sandwiches". Not my idea of a calming read but he loves it!

Carado Tue 19-May-20 23:39:30

The Paddington books. My grandson has his own 'Paddy Bear' and loves the films, and we sometimes sing Teddy Bears' Picnic together,

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a long time favourite. The children love the beautiful illustrations and eventually learn the words off by heart so we end up reading it together.

I’m Afraid you may think I’m old fashioned but I read all the old favourites that my Mum read to me as a child. little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks etc, but my favourite of all is Snow White, my children and Grandchildren enjoyed it too, just waiting now for Great Grand Children to continue the tradition ??

mazgoli Wed 20-May-20 13:54:37

The Scarecrows Wedding to the younger ones, and The Secret Garden is a story that the older ones particularly enjoy.
