Respirator Supply & Demand Dilemma!

Where are the assurances from Boris that, as one of the 5th richest world economies, He is doing everything possible to source more medical equipment to ensure damage limitation?

The Tories will be the ones in the wilderness for decades if they don't throw some cash at this right now.

The bull might make more sense if we knew our hospitals were eagerly anticipating new respirators.

I am reminded of this movie scene -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1AIroyiLEM

"It's after ten!" - Mrs Greenway urges action!

It really is after ten.

Pumpkinhead&Sparkless have gone to ground, so there is that I s'pose.

Is it time we crowdfunded respirator supplies ourselves?

Good luck everyone.

If you have enough ventilators where are you going to find appropriately trained staff? The vast majority of nurses do not have a clue to even set up a ventilator never mind how to care for a patient safely. This is not a slight against nurses, I was one in an ICU unit.

We'll be fine; Johnson is recruiting thousands more nurses [oh, hang on a minute....].

This has been coming since January, why are they only looking now? Where is the planning? Why are we floundering so much?

The BBC4 pandemic programme said a pandemic was top of the governments list of disasters. So why is the government acting as if they've been taken totally by surprise. And, as for America closing down the department that deals with pandemics well, words fail me....

Glad to hear that a new dedicated hospital with 2 wards of 2000 capacity each.

Four thousand - Wonder what percentage of the population that is?

Why does everything have to be a dilemma OP?

I was thinking of “Queue jumping dilemma”, “Holocaust movie dilemma”,etc.

How do you feel about the thread topic - Am I still over-reacting?

seacliff Tue 24-Mar-20 20:21:05

My son is a paramedic, on ambulances in London. Today they took the ventilator he uses on the ambulance, for use in hospitals. He also still doesn't have proper masks with filters.

rosecarmel Tue 24-Mar-20 20:21:27

Trump has placed the burden of acquiring equipment on the hospitals- Like they aren't already stretched thin already-

Like the tests, it's the same lip service- Everything is on its way- Trucks run goods back and forth across this vast country day in and day out in a timely manner on schedule- And yet .. There shortages persist ..

He's a piece of sh't ..

Callistemon Tue 24-Mar-20 20:23:05

A dilemma:

'A problem offering two possibilities, neither of which is unambiguously acceptable or preferable.'

So there is not much point in asking us really.

MawB Tue 24-Mar-20 20:26:11

I find the repetition of Dilemma frankly a turn+off, it is overkill.
The subject is of course important, it may be a crisis, but it is not a “dilemma” - “ a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially ones that are equally undesirable”

ananimous Tue 24-Mar-20 20:28:36

I could say the same about your posting, so let's not fall to nit picking.

ananimous Tue 24-Mar-20 20:29:53

Considering all the "Lurkers" threads I don't see it as overkill, and expect more "dilemma" threads in the future.

ananimous Tue 24-Mar-20 20:30:48

Try and self-isolate yourself from them.

ananimous Tue 24-Mar-20 20:32:37

wink

Callistemon Tue 24-Mar-20 20:35:31

I self isolated from the Lurkers' threads too.

GrannyLaine Tue 24-Mar-20 20:35:54

I don't understand your post ananimous, you can buy respirators on Amazon. Do you mean 'ventilators??'

Persevere, and you'll get it in the end.

rosecarmel Tue 24-Mar-20 20:41:51

Respirators being brought in from the national stockpile have rotted elastic, come to find out .. At the 11th hour ..
