Simply that.

Are you watching to hear from the most reliable source.

Mrst1405 Mon 16-Mar-20 19:10:18

Either way , I love the colours in the carpet in front of the dias. It's very Kaffe Fassatt.

SirChenjin Mon 16-Mar-20 19:08:46

Scentia - because many people simply don’t have the option to socially distance themselves. For example, there are no Govt requirements placed on employers to make adjustments for at risk staff or to ensure remote working is a right for staff who can work in this way. Ignore your employer at your peril.

I loathe Boris as a politician but dont think he is doing badly. I worry this may be due to a rather pathetic need for an authority figure in a crisis.

Lucca Mon 16-Mar-20 19:01:46

Bad luck paddy Anne...I think you’re in the naughty step but I still read your posts!

phoenix Mon 16-Mar-20 18:58:04

No. Television doesn't go on here until about 7.30pm.

Radio 4 until then. So have listened to it, but avoided having to actually look at Boris.

(A little thing, but something to be grateful for.)

Patsy70 Mon 16-Mar-20 18:54:58

I agree Scentia, it would seem that certain people on this forum consider that we are unable to take responsibility for ourselves, and have to be told what to do. At 72 years old, I have passed that stage.

lemongrove Mon 16-Mar-20 18:39:44

Exactly... a question of when, but for everybody's sake, keep them in school as long as possible.
Scentia ?good post. Some people seem to need spoon feeding these days.Use common sense everybody!

trisher Mon 16-Mar-20 18:31:39

73 countries have closed all their schools. There are schools closed in the UK. More schools will close. It's just a question of when.

Scentia Mon 16-Mar-20 18:29:00

I cannot understand those people saying Boris isn’t doing enough, why does everyone have to wait to be told to socially distance themselves. If YOU felt it is a risk then don’t go it. Why oh why are we waiting for instructions all the time.
Ps I can’t stand Boris as a politician but it is, as usual his background staff making all the moves, don’t you see?!

Harris27 Mon 16-Mar-20 18:26:39

I work with.children and I understand why he hasn’t shut the schools because it’s the elderly that are more at risk and if the children are off they’ll probably go to grandparents and then what will happen?

trisher Mon 16-Mar-20 18:21:24

But actually he isn't doing anything. Advice is not a regulation. So he's saying work from home but if your employer says you can't there is nothing you can do. He says avoid pubs, cafes theatres but they will stay open. He says self isolate for 14 days but remember children don't get this very badly, so how many parents will send children to school with it? The EU is restricting travel and the US is stopping flights going in. What are we doing?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 16-Mar-20 18:07:20

I have faith in the medical experts, and I am happy that PM is listening to them.

Scary but necessary.

craftyone Mon 16-Mar-20 18:07:08

It was exceptionally calm and informative, gone up a gear and london is ahead of the rest of the uk. There will be a daily update. BJ was quietly authoritative

Namsnanny Mon 16-Mar-20 18:04:54

Im grateful to you Sussexborn for making me laugh grin, re your last post!
We need a chuckle now and again

ayse Mon 16-Mar-20 18:04:38

I do think schools should have been shut.

ayse Mon 16-Mar-20 18:04:06

I am too. I’ve been watching it on and off most of the afternoon. The WHO has said that testing, testing, testing is paramount.

I’m currently playing a wait and see game. The advice has changed substantially so I’m not sure what I’m doing, at the moment

GracesGranMK3 Mon 16-Mar-20 18:03:21

The news - Sky - is talking of voluntary "lockdown" but Johnson talked about people over 70 being asked to avoid unnecessary social contact with other people by this weekend. Are these the same thing? It doesn't seem so to me.

Sussexborn Mon 16-Mar-20 18:00:46

I feel a lot happier than I would do with Jeremy Corbin and momentum in charge.

Sussexborn Mon 16-Mar-20 17:59:35

Gave up reading any of Paddyanne’s posts ages ago. Sheer blind prejudice is not helpful.

Boris is not a medical or health professional and is prepared to step back and let them lead. They are doing what they can to keep matters under control and are relying on people behaving in a responsible and sensible manner. Not a lot to ask as our own safety is at stake surely?

Namsnanny Mon 16-Mar-20 17:44:19

Yes, although I'm not so interested in the questions posed by journalists as they just seem to go over what has already been stated!

Sorry folks this is democracy at work.
He's the one voted in so, he is the one you will have to bear with.

Frankly its meaningless to complain at this stage.
Just keep calm and carry on …...with dignity if possible smile

vegansrock Mon 16-Mar-20 17:37:57

Just because we aren’t in the Boris fan club doesn’t mean we are politicising the virus. We know the NHS can’t cope with this emergency, this is why us oldies have to stay in so we don’t all get it at the same time as everyone else. Fair enough. Let’s hope it’s works and we don’t all get sick at the same time when we come out of our isolation.

Oopsadaisy3 Mon 16-Mar-20 17:37:46

So many experts on GN,

I’d rather watch and listen to the ones standing next to BJ.

mcem Mon 16-Mar-20 17:36:10

If you believe that you're watching a reliable and coherent report by a competent leader who's in control then you're deluding yourself.
Rabbits and headlights spring to mind!

Greymar Mon 16-Mar-20 17:27:16

" politically weaponising" has taken over from virtue signaling as an annoying phrase.

I so want to believe we have decent people in charge.

POGS Mon 16-Mar-20 17:25:32

paddyanne

Simply politically weaponising COVID 19 is not where most people want to be in such a time of crisis.

We know you hate Westminster and Johnson so do you dismiss the fact he is taking his lead from Chris Witty and Patrick Vallance who are jointly talking to the nation as I type.
