I have had an email from the school which seems to be paving the way to telling me that the school is likely to close, or perhaps partially close.

My grandson and his friends inform me that it will be happening on Friday.

Just thought I would let people know, and of course, that's my interpretation only.

From Friday here if not before. Wirral.

What happens to the working parents now ? Always supposing the parents still have a job.
Indefinitely I suspect.

MissAdventure Wed 18-Mar-20 18:12:32

Have just seen on another thread that schools will shut for 6 months?!
Well, that's me well and truly knackered, to coin a phrase.

It was announced late this afternoon. It’s indefinite ( which makes sense) and all external exams postponed. Some interesting and well thought through exceptions ( children of key workers, certain vulnerable children) . They’ve even thought of a voucher system for children on free school meals. I’m impressed.

I have several friends whose DDs work in the NHS and are wondering what will happen about child care. Some are fit to look after DGC, but at least one is certainly not fit. Hey ho.

Wheniwasyourage Wed 18-Mar-20 18:19:43

Haven't heard anything about key workers' children in Scotland yet, but it sounds like a good idea. Our exams haven't been cancelled yet either.

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:20:47

The children of key workers in NHS ( and other places) will still go to school.

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:22:03

I’m sure the devolved nations will do the same - they absolutely need to.

tanith Wed 18-Mar-20 18:25:17

I think ‘key’ workers is going to involve many others than NHS workers, police, firemen/women they are also talking of lorry and food delivery drivers for instance.

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:27:46

Yes that’s right - they’ve mentioned emergency services and delivery drivers as well. It’s going to be an interesting discussion and will underline just how many jobs really are key in keeping us safe.

vegansrock Wed 18-Mar-20 18:29:51

Which schools will key workers children go to ? Not clear.

Wheniwasyourage Wed 18-Mar-20 18:31:08

And what happens to the teachers' children...

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:35:09

Well there are clearly details to work out ( maybe they have been already) - there’ll be local plans depending on numbers and geography maybe? Teachers will count as key workers surely so their children will be included.

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:36:02

It’s going to be about child care really isn’t it, not Education per se.

MissAdventure Wed 18-Mar-20 18:39:04

Yes, exactly.
I didn't realise schools would shut for so long. I'm astounded.

whywhywhy Wed 18-Mar-20 18:43:28

I've just had a text from SIL to see if I'll have my two granddaughters 2 days per week, every week. But we're are both late 60's and supposed to be self isolating. What should we do?

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:45:11

Well no one can say when this will be over sadly - or if just when we think it is, there won’t be a second wave. I expect China is still holding its collective breath. It’s really momentous isn’t it?

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:46:50

The CSA was very very clear at the press conference, do not ask GPs to look after the GDC.

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:47:22

GDC = GC

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 18-Mar-20 18:49:50

whywhywhy say no, very sorry etc.etc.

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 18:55:36

On MN there is a saying ‘No is a complete sentence’ ?

Sussexborn Wed 18-Mar-20 19:02:59

Italy seems to be having a second wave so impossible to know when there will be an end.

tickingbird Wed 18-Mar-20 19:07:07

I'm not having my GC. It's very difficult but it really is a question of the bigger picture. Your life and the strain on the NHS.

suziewoozie Wed 18-Mar-20 19:07:26

Is it Sussex I thought there were signs of decline? I’ll go and look it up - hope not
