SIL ignoring 14 day reommended isolation rules

Moved to be near daughter and son in law to care for grandson on no nursery days as travelling by train 3 hours each way and staying over was getting a bit too much. Lovely house and great to be so near. was working out brilliantly. Have had to take decision to self isolate with great regret. Feeling selfish and guilty.

Sadly I know a person who fell ill on a Monday and on Friday went to have a drink at a pub.My feelings towards him have changed completely and I feel very let down. We are self isolating due to one daughter just about to have baby and elderly mother.
I have to go out for essential items once a week but would not consider going anywhere else or visiting people even though we have no symptoms.

If you report someone surely without a test they can just say they thought it was just a cold?

My grd went to work yesterday and found the security guard having a heated argument with a young man who was refusing to wash his hands before entering the building. He was shouting that there was no good reason to have to do this, and the whole thing was exaggerated, there was no big risk. He ended up being sacked immediately. There are about 1500 people working there, and he was putting everyone at risk. As they have all been told about washing their hands when moving around the building, he has probably not doing that.

I've spoken to my daughter this morning and been told her MiL has turned up unexpectedly this morning she travelled by bus and train. It's about 41/2 hours door to door and she's probably going back tonight(normally does when she suddenly appears) My daughter will be spitting feathers, not surprisingly.

Mr Beek is ignoring the crisis as well. No extra hand washing. We were to go to London to see friends tomorrow. He’s still going. DD and I are staying at home. The worst thing is that DD is a nurse and her ward has been designated the CV19 ward for her hospital! High risk household or not?!

The selfishness of people is astonishing

These people who think that they are above the law with regards to self isolating or social distancing and refuse to do it need to ask themselves if they would be quite happy to throw a cup of a killer virus into a crowd of people knowing it could kill a large number of those people, much the same as a terrorist detonating a suicide vest filled with nails really. Personally I can't see the difference!!!Let him ponder on that. He needs reporting.

Well Polnan if I worked in Asda and that happened to me I'd leave the till get my coat and go home - say I wasn't feeling well. Asda shouldn't do this unless they can enforce it. If there was no one on the tills they'd have to close and the workers are probably at risk anyway the checkouts aren't distanced enough from the customers. I went shopping mid week and one elderly customer in the queue coughing everywhere no hand over her mouth and the people in front and the checkout girl got the full brunt of it. Some people are so selfish & thoughtless.

Thanks for all your advice on what to do about my selfish SIL. I think that some of the messages seem to be about a slightly different thread however. I feel supported by coming on this forum and will be thinking of the best thing to do next. My greatest fear is that if my DD's initialsymptoms were not the virus SIL could actually come back with the real thing. Whereas if he had completed the 14 day isolation we may have had some sense of security.

People in Italy are dying from something they did two weeks ago. Everyone needs to isolate themselves as much as possible. Stay away from people and don't touch anything.

Unfortunately even if it is reported nothinh will happen. We are told to self isolate and do social distancing but the Govt has not made it ilegal but to. Unlike Spain and France where it is illegal. This shows how expecting people to do the right thing doesn't work. We need to be made to do it.

There are a great many irresponsible people totally ignoring the advice, especially if it means that they lose money.

I don't agree that its a 'cavalier attitude by young people' though. There are plenty of old people who won't change!

It is a quandary, though. He should have either kept away from the family altogether or gone into isolation with them.

If he is an essential worker he should be doing all he can to stay virus-free.

The son in law involved may go abroad with his truck a couple of times a week he can’t self isolate each time he has to carry on with his job. My daughter is a nurse and may be in contact with the virus daily. Do you think she should self isolate after every shift ? She can’t . It won’t work

It Italy the police are on the streets. Only one person in when one person comes out of the Italian Supermarkets and pharmacies.
They are triaging their patients in Italy as there are not enough ventilators or staff to man them. We will be in the same boat.
I have just listened to a ICU Doctor from London. He said that he had cried and so had his colleagues. He begged everyone to take the threat seriously.
My own children re doctors in the firing line. I am very afraid. Your SIL should be as well. Young people also get ill.

Thisismyname I think the problem is that his wife had a temperature and felt unwell and had put herself and the children into isolation.
The wife is to blame too for allowing him into the home and they should have found somewhere else for him to stay when he came home from his probably essential work.

I have mild corona symptoms, slight temperature, and tiredness. Therefore self isolating , in a bedroom. I’m doing the breathing exercises deep breath hold for 5 seconds, do it six times and cough on the last exhale, into a tissue. Do this cycle twice. Then lay on your tummy with a pillow for your head, breathing more deeply than normal for ten minutes. This opens up the small airways in you lungs. Do it when you can. It will help.
