Coronavirus is NOT a joke. Please stop brushing it under the carpet and putting not only your own lives at risk but everyone else's just because you want to go to the pub, or to a restaurant or think you need 7 packs of 24 toilet rolls- god knows why ??‍♀️

As a Covid-19 positive household I've seen the effects it has. I've had to watch my 5yr old son go from having all the energy in the world to not moving, not eating, hardly drinking or urinating. His temperature wouldn't go below the 40's and at its highest was 42.3 which caused vomiting, I watched him hallucinating and crying from the headache, being taken to hospital by ambulance to be put in isolation pods and be swapped for the virus and confirmed positive. He lay in the hospital bed and asked me if he was going to die - as a mother that is heartbreaking ?? his blood sugar levels were only 3.7, his respiratory rate was 18-20 and his heart rate was 180, the sweat was pouring out of him but he was shivering, he was panting for breath and he had photophobia.

As his mom and not being able to do anything for him has been one of the worst experiences of my life. So please, just stay in for a little while, so what if you can't do all your normal things, the sooner everybody does social distancing, the sooner it will be over.

I am not posting this for attention or sympathy, as I could of done that the day he got sick, I just want people to stay safe. Please think of your health and others ❤️

So right Monica. We all care.

nipsmum Sun 22-Mar-20 17:42:15

The BBC reported today at 5pm. That 300,000 people world wide have been infected with Corona virus. The population of the world was 7-53 billion people last week when I checked the official figures. Someone needs to work on the proportions here.

Sensible posts
With a proviso, though, sorry: I have seen many photos from Syria, many worse than that one which may or may not be fake, I don't know if it is.

Thank you Dizzyblonde, for your very informative post.

We do not lack compassion, but I do wonder how much compassion this mother has for her own child, plastering photos of him all over the internet. Poor little boy, I hope he will receive the best of care and recover well.

M0nica your posts are generally well informed and sensible and I'm sure you will take all necessary precautions.
Such rude replies were unwarranted.

There is a lot of fake news containing possibly dangerous advice flourishing on the internet so we must all be cautious and check reliable sources.

Houndi wishing you a good recovery flowers

Nannan2 NO SHORT WALKS IN THE OPEN AIR- GET IN YOUR BACK GARDEN

And what is your recommendation for those who live in a flat? Or have no garden? Or have a shared yard with other families? And where do you get your "advice" from because its completely against government and medical professionals advice that it is safe to walk in the open air as long as you keep 2 metres away from anyone else. Please do reassure us that your advice is legitimate.

Hetty58 Well spotted. That ambulance has travelled quite a distance to take a child in Kent to hospital. The parent may be from overseas hence the use of Mom. Facemasks not of the type issued or used by medics, it just doesn't readily add up.

pinkquartz I am puzzled, I have done just what I always said I would do, get my life sorted before the end of the week and then hunker down within the deadline set by the government - and that was exactly what I have done.

My hair was cut 10 days ago but I had a beauticians appointment for next week, I called in to cancel it in the faint hope that if she had a space she could do my eye brows there and then and I proved lucky, so they were done.

But the date that always defined when we would retreat into our shell was Friday morning because my car was booked into a main dealer quite some distance from home for a safety related recall. This date had been difficult to arrange and the date and time was agreed a month ago, so I was not going to cancel it.

Anyway, having done everything I intended, with seeds, potting compost, DIY materials, and on Friday morning, curtain fabric stacked up in the hall, We took the car to the garage, stooged around for a couple of hours while the safety repair was done and then had a last meal out at an almost empty pub, went home and put up the shutters.

This was exactly what I always planned to do, why you thought otherwise I am not sure. I had printed out the Guidance issued by Public Health England and I followed it precisely. I have always obeyed all the instructions we have been given. What I haven't done is over react as so many others have.

Callistemon Sun 22-Mar-20 17:12:08

Nannan of course you can walk in the open air.
I could go for a walk near here and not see another soul. Except for DH and he lives with me anyway.

tickingbird Sun 22-Mar-20 17:08:57

Apparently, according to sky news, we can go out in the fresh air as long as we don't have contact with anyone else. I shall cycle tomorrow in the sunshine, in the countryside and keep well away from everyone, same as I've been doing for two weeks.

Maremia Sun 22-Mar-20 17:05:50

Tillybelle you are missing the point. People come on here with things that are troubling them. Many times we don't agree with them, or the solutions offered, but I thought the point of Gransnet was to read and respond as positively as we could.

Ellie Anne Sun 22-Mar-20 16:58:02

I will have to go to the supermarket tomorrow as I can’t get an on line delivery.
I live in a seaside town and yesterday the beach and prom were fairly busy but there is enough space for people to keep their distance.
It was more worrying to see a lot of children in the play park.

kwest Sun 22-Mar-20 16:36:43

GagaJo, what a terrifying experience you have been through. My heart goes out to you.
I hope you and your family feel better soon. xx

Gossamerbeynon1945 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:33:33

This is my first ever post. I have lurked here for many years.
My daughter is a nurse and my SIL a teacher. My daughter seems to smile through it all and tells me not to worry, my SIL has to go into school to care for the key workers children who have to work. I am so worried about both of them

Noanana Sun 22-Mar-20 16:30:16

Ok. Leaving gransnet.

Googes41 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:24:44

Maddyone
I too have a doctor daughter in London. She has a 4 year old.
I have a brother in isolation in Northern Italy and a son
In New York. As you can imagine I feel life is overwhelming
At the moment. I feel so helpless. Let us all be kind on Gransnet and not try to score points

pinkjj27 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:22:31

Herbie9 Thank you

tickingbird Sun 22-Mar-20 16:20:47

Houndi Do you know for definite that you have CV19? It would be good to know if you have as it gives the rest of us hope, although it sounds nasty. I'm glad you're feeling better.

pinkjj27 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:18:28

Tillybelle I just want to clarify that I was not vouching for these photos quite the opposite I was mealy pointing out they had appeared on a local community site with someone saying she was local thus in fact discrediting them rather than vouching for them. I am sorry if I wasn’t clear I get anxious on grandsnet these days after being shot down for my typos.

NonnaJazz Sun 22-Mar-20 16:14:21

Well said Monica.

Good to learn you are feeling better Houndi.

This is a scary situation that is dire for some....and they deserve our sympathy and support.

I am sure that most of us are doing our best to do the right thing in unprecedented circumstances but it helps to remember that some media seem bent on reporting their news in terms that resemble the script of a third rate disaster movie and their inflammatory tones have likely contributed to
A fair amount of panic and anxiety.

I have drastically reduced my news consumption and now stick to a couple of sources known for balanced information. I wish you all well.

pinkquartz Sun 22-Mar-20 16:12:23

Monica sorry just read my post back and it sounds patronising..... but am genuinely pleased you are on board with the seriousness.

etheltbags1 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:11:12

I believe the story. Why would anyone make it up. They may have exaggerated but its scaring me thinking my little granddaughter could be like this. Hope he gets well.

pinkquartz Sun 22-Mar-20 16:10:45

Monica
good to see you have changed your tune.
I had to be absent being ill for some days, but last time i read you were insisting you were going to get your hair cut and keep your spirits up.
so pleased you have seen sense. You are mostly a very sensible and steady poster on the forum and I was surprised before.

Nannan2 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:08:32

I think its sensible to get clarification ticking bird- but from your actual gp.or nhs 111- not the nurse as she may be only giving her own opinion? TO EVERYONE ELSE- NO SOCIALIZING ON THE CLOSE,AND DEFINITELY NO COFFEE MORNINGS LIKE ITS JUST NORMAL.angry

Tillybelle Sun 22-Mar-20 16:04:50

pinkjj27 Herbie9 Good to hear from you. I endorse what you say regarding MOnica.

Nannan2 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:04:38

The post also warns us that children CAN get very ill from it too- not playing it down for them like the government has been!

tickingbird Sun 22-Mar-20 16:03:43

I'm wondering now if I should cycle this week. The nurse at my surgery said yes last week when we spoke as it will help my lungs and immune system. Obviously on my own and in the countryside but things seem to have changed. I don't speak to anyone or get close but I may try and get clarification.
