During this time of isolation, the members of the singing group that I run are sending each other musical items that we love, saying why and including a youtube link. I have discovered several wonderful pieces of music and artists that I did not know. Perhaps we could do this on Gransnet? Any genre.
Let me start with this item. It is Arleen Auger (a wonderful American soprano, who died of a brain tumour in 1993 at age 54) singing the seldom played, but I think the best, song from from Canteloube's Songs of the Auvergene. The words are in Occitan - a local dialect. I believe this is a shepherdess longing for her lost love. As an expression of raw longing and a piece of exquisite controlled singing I think it is hard to beat. I hope you enjoy it.
