My DH is on the shielded list. Just wondering how many others there are on GN and how you are coping with staying in all the time.

Doodle Fri 24-Apr-20 13:36:54

Wow mammissimo you can be our head baker. That’s a lot of flour ?

Marydoll Fri 24-Apr-20 14:00:52

Massimo, I have lots of baking powder, (don't really know why), so we are in business!

Dreamkeeper Fri 24-Apr-20 15:01:20

Sitting here by my sunny window wearing said boater (mainly to hide my manky hairstyle!!) whilst determined to try it for size!!
Outside are those lucky so and so`s "Making hay whilst the sun shines" and yes I am more than a little envious!!

Glad to hear you have caught up with my new "disguise" MarydollWhilst I hope there will be a happy homefor all that flour Mamissimo
Please do not attempt looking in my direction as I am surely the world`s worst baker!
Bread has been in short supply though as of course without a large freezer to keep some,we are unable to obtain fresh loaves very often.
But worry not, as really it is mainly only my other half that is able to enjoy the likes of bread, although I partake and try a bit of this and that,a change from my "Ensure" drinks,I still am only pecking at food.Looking still like a stick insect!

Always ready for your nightly drinks though Gov,you have such a delicate hand and the drinks are delicious!

Be safe my dear cell mates.

CherryCezzy Fri 24-Apr-20 19:30:05

Recovered now ?. Thanks for your best wishes Doodle.
Good to know you are okay after yesterday Marydoll.

I have flour envy Mamissimo. I do have a small amount but it's impossible to get more!! I was reading that its due to the fact that only 4% of the flour produced actually makes its way to the supermarkets. There's also an issue with bagging up small amounts because there isn't the set up for it since normally the rest of the flour goes to bakeries and manufacturers.
Right, I'm going to have a moan ... It's funny (peculiar) really because at the moment we can see most ( and some can't see any) of the people we love but argh... today we (mostly me on the phone ?) had a really irritating phonecall (and then we had to ring back) from my WP's sister. Don't get me wrong, I love her but she can be so infuriating! She rang, upset. Of course we were very concerned and took our time, calmed her down and got to the root of the matter. I knew I had some info' about what she needed to do so I told her I'd dig it out and ring her back. I did just that. Arghhhh, she didn't want to deal with the issue she's got "that way". I had a brainwave ( sometimes the electrics don't go awry ?) and I made a suggestion. No, she didn't want to deal with it "that way*, and so on... Oh hum. She rang upset, wanted help - just not the "ways" I was able to suggest (but I don't think there are other "ways" to sort her issue).
There, I've got that off my chest! Sorry (what's the emoji for looking sheepish).
On a happier note ☺️, I've had my hair dyed today. It's only a semi-permanent colour I bought before lockdown. My WP did it. Now all I need is my hair cut but I think I'd have to be unconscious to let him do that and I think I have enough unconsciousness as it is ? !

Doodle Fri 24-Apr-20 20:16:44

It’s difficult isn’t it cherry when people ask for help then reject everything you can offer. Let’s hope she works it out for herself in the end. Glad you are feeling better and ?Marydoll too.
Hello again panache I had a smile on my face visualising you at your window with your boater on. I too envy those outside. I am actually allowed out but as DH isn’t I’m not going out either so as to keep him safe, I think that’s what a lot of shielding patients partners are doing.
Hope everyone is ok. See you later at chocolate time.

Doodle Fri 24-Apr-20 20:17:29

I have no idea where that halo icon came from. It must be you cherry or marydoll coz it’s not me ?

Grammaretto Fri 24-Apr-20 22:40:17

I hope it is chocolate time! I've been so long in the sun today (truly) that I am ready for bed. I also won the family quiz and was accused of cheating!
We marked ourselves so I suppose I may have been a little generous. wink

I am glad you have all had a not too bad day.

CherryCezzy Fri 24-Apr-20 22:55:07

Doodle the Halo must be Marydoll's because it's not mine either.
I also noticed an auto correct in my last post ( not that type of last post ?) , that hardly paints me as angelic (though it was definitely an error) : because at the moment we can see most...of the people we love which appears either I am breaking lockdown big time and think others are too or I am implying that people don't care about family or friends. Of course the word can should have read can't blush.
Anyway, guess I'm wittering now... those pesky disturbed brainwaves ?.
I think it's getting close to hot chocolate time.
Night all ??.

Doodle Fri 24-Apr-20 23:17:59

Hot chocolate waiting for collection cherry. Sleep safely all.
Night night ? ? ?

Dreamkeeper We have Stick Insects in the bush adjacent to my house and they sometimes come in for a visit, as do crickets, mice and bush cockroaches. I'm not too keen on these last but don't mind the Stickies , which are cute. Why do we like some insects and not otheres I wonder?

Oh, Grammaretto that's a shame. I know how that feels. I'm an avid Trivia fan but was once in a regional final and accused like you, although there was no way I could have done so...it was well before cell phone usage.

They said they'd believe me if I knew the name of the next piece of music. It was The Baby Elephant Walk' - so I got the prize, a box of chocs but they were as sawdust in my mouth after the accusation.

This morning I commemorated ANZAC Day with a meditation, Silence and The Last Post.

Did the usual domestic stuff and then lay on my bed enjoying the absolute gem which is 'Breaking The News' from BBC Radio Scotland. There ae currently 5 podcasts online if anyone else needs a joyful laugh.

I'm told Sassenachs may not understand the accents but I grew up with Oor Wullie and holidays in Rothesay, so I had nae bother.

Grammaretto Sat 25-Apr-20 08:53:28

That's so mean Bradfordlass so I got the prize, a box of chocs but they were as sawdust in my mouth after the accusation.
This was only my DC but still. After all I taught them everything they know, didn't I. grin
The questions are easy if you know the answers.

I didn't even see a halo Doodle . Is it only visible to the angelic ones?.

I hardly dare say out loud, but I am quite enjoying this isolation/ prison. How are others feeling?

There is still so much to be grateful for and I am not belittling anyone's suffering, just trying to value the everyday things more than I usually have time to.
2 out of the blue phone calls, nice ones.
Long breakfasts
Finding the plant I thought was dead is alive.
What are yours?

CherryCezzy Sat 25-Apr-20 12:43:48

Grammaretto, I am not enjoying the lockdown much at all but there small things I think I am appreciating more. Sadly, one of those was the little (?) cake I had yesterday ?. Now I'm also envy the fact that you are finding a plant you thought was dead (only joking) since we've lost an expensive plant this winter and we only bought it just over a year ago! Why can't these things come with insurance cover like vacuum cleaners? ?

Doodle Sat 25-Apr-20 13:55:08

Afternoon all. I’m late today. Had a lie in.blush

I’m not finding the lock in too difficult but the thought of it going on for a long time troubles me. 12 weeks I can cope with. Months and months is a different matter.
bradfordlass apart from ladybirds, I cant think of a single insect that I like. I would rather not have any of them near me so it’s a good job I don’t live where you do ?
Hope everyone has a good day ?

Grammaretto Sat 25-Apr-20 13:59:00

CherryCezzy I am sorry and I do understand. Today hasn't been quite as lovely but it can always improve.
As to expensive plants: I have been trying to establish a sweet smelling Daphne for the last 10 years and keep trying again! I blame our cold winters, slugs, pigeons, dry summers, altitude....
I first found the one I want at Crathes castle. It has the most beautiful scent.

Doodle Sat 25-Apr-20 22:43:32

Sleep well all. No bad dreams. Cocoa in the kitchen ready for anyone who needs it. ?

CherryCezzy Sat 25-Apr-20 23:19:51

Beautiful garden ?, somewhere I haven't been so thanks for the mini tour Grammaretto. The plant we lost was a salix tree, a dwarf weeping pussy Willow. We're not sure why it died on us, we planted it in the most suitable location for it. Perhaps the rain? Love the idea of a Daphne but hesitant.

Thanks again for the hot chocolate gov'nr Doodle
Sleep well ?? all.

Grammaretto Sun 26-Apr-20 08:42:15

Hope you've all survived the night. Sorry that's a bit drastic but we have the extra health worries in here to contend with so it's a reasonable thought under the circumstances.

Plans for today? I shall attend my usual place of worship remotely. This will be week 4. It is different but there's no travelling or pressure although I was phoned after last week and told I looked peaky! Ofcourse you don't need to put your video on.

I looked up weeping salix Cherry sorry yours failed but I guess you could try again. At least you'd be around to tend it.

What are you all up to today?

dragonfly46 Sun 26-Apr-20 09:18:28

Grammaretto we had a large Daphne Bush when I was a child. The scent reminds me of whip and top season. Do you remember the seasons? Skipping, hopscotch, two balls against the wall! I have 2 Daphnes in my garden but nothing so grand as the one I had as a child.

I went with DH out with the dog yesterday but found it very stressful as he kept rubbing his cone on the ground. Back to the vet tomorrow despite shielding. I wait outside.

Stay safe everyone.

Grammaretto Sun 26-Apr-20 10:07:38

dragonfly46 I can almost smell it now! I remember the playground games. I would just get the hang of something and the game would change. The next week it would be french knitting or cats cradles. I never realised they changed with the seasons.
I was a rather dreamy dim child. Possibly still a dreamy , dim adult.

So sorry to hear poor Dexter is still suffering and rubbing his cone. Let's hope he is on the mend.

Doodle Sun 26-Apr-20 12:52:22

Hello all. dragonfly I do hope Dexter gets the all clear tomorrow. Or at least gets his cone off. You’ve done so well looking after him all this time.
grammaretto I too will be going to virtual church (bit late for morning service but at least being virtual I can catch up any time ?).

Doodle Sun 26-Apr-20 17:40:10

Spent a lovely afternoon sitting on our balcony with a warm breeze passing over us. We’ve been watching the world go by. The joggers, the bikers, the walkers, the little children, buggies, proms scooters the lot. All doing their best to keep a distance. Been a quiet afternoon apart from the cars and motorbikes going past. Hope you all have a good day.?

Grammaretto Sun 26-Apr-20 18:09:41

A lovely Sunday here too Doodle and team lock-down.
It's not such a hardship on a beautiful day and we have the garden and even an open window hearing the birds.
I shall phone the family and probably they'll be eating.
I may have a G&T. After all it's sundown somewhere.

I moved tons maybe not quite tons of earth from one compost heap to a raised bed; some reading, some knitting. It's not such a bad prison.

I made a delicious carrot and lentil soup by adding a big handful of fresh garden herbs.

It's great to know that the children in Spain are allowed out today for the first time in 6 weeks.

Mamissimo Sun 26-Apr-20 21:43:05

So much gardening this week end.....and most of my garden seems to be stuck under my nails. Have to get it out before I go to hospital tomorrow ?

I’ve been ordering plants and garden bits online with mixed results - but I’m finally sorted for this season except for bean sticks. I’m now in a mission because I have planted the beans and have popped in short canes to get things started. If I can’t find any I’ll have to use broom handles!

And so to bed, I’m ready for lights out. Sleep tight.

Dreamkeeper Sun 26-Apr-20 21:45:37

Please Guv may I be forgiven?
I did call in last evening and had writtren a fair sized post only for it to disappear into the ether..........again!!!
I was that niffed I had to leave it but I certainly pined for your night Hot chocolate Guv............I didn`t sleep well either!!!

I recall remarking on your post Bradfordlass talking about stick insects in your bush, just after I had remarked I lokked like one!!! It did get me wondering where you were going with that thought!!

Special weather indeed those blue skies have been priceless......better still had we been able to sunbathe! However much needed rain on the way this week so that will freshen up our gardens and help our growers with their crops.
The bird song has been such a treat of late Grammaretto I totally agree,a real joy these lockdown days.

So pleased hearing that in your view Doodle the passers by were still sticking to their 2 metres apart.Such a lot of talk of people starting to break rules and that makes me dread what might well happen.
When folk had to stick to a meagre life during the war,a whole 6 years in fact,I find it upsetting that just a few weeks into lockdown there are some people complaining, and not conforming. So very much at stake here.

I have just had a moment, the sun was strong today so perhaps I have had sunstroke!

It was lovely hearing the comments of the Spanish children today though following being allowed out after their 6 weeks indoors.Hopefully there will be no need for further restrictions for them.Must be very difficult for kiddies.

Well then my cell mates time I toddled off,hot chocolate mug in hand!Wishing you all sweet dreams and a pleasant safe tomorrow.

dragonfly46 Sun 26-Apr-20 22:00:23

I am tired and sick and sick and tired.
I hope tomorrow will be better but how can it be?
Night night.
