When this is over there needs to be a monument for all the essential workers who gave their lives

For the service of us all.

It has been mentioned [and I hadn't thought about doing so because my MP is a complete waste of time] that we should all email our MP's demanding adequate PPE for key workers.

GagaJo Fri 10-Apr-20 15:30:58

I totally agree with you Labaik. Unfortunately, those in power are more interested in deflecting attention from the PPE issue than they are saving the lives of the medics.

Labaik Fri 10-Apr-20 15:03:46

We shouldn't need to do this. It isn't a 'war'. If they had the correct protection they wouldn't be dying. Isn't talk like this just drawing attention away from the fact that many of them still aren't adequately protected?

Yes, without a doubt a decent wage, support fund for families

Tangerine Fri 10-Apr-20 14:16:24

Yes, paddyanne, I agree that a decent wage should be given to the essential workers but perhaps we could have a monument too.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 09-Apr-20 21:40:00

A decent pay rise should be a no brainer after this year.

NotSpaghetti Thu 09-Apr-20 21:31:18

You're right Paddyanne - an immediate pay rise is definitely due but it would also be a good thing to have more support for families who have lost loved ones where they have contributed to the general good.

Maybe some kind of ‘campaign medal’ for all NHS workers as well?
A monument and a park.
But no knighthoods for NHS Management

paddyanne Thu 09-Apr-20 21:06:09

maybe a decent wage rise would mean more than a monument ,Its like clapping ,at the end of this life will go back to normal and people will forget .Its human nature, but a gaurantee of a decent wage for all those who put their lives on the line would mean more than a plaque to most

It’s a lovely idea - the monument. As for financial help - the state should contribute as well not just the public.

Bathsheba Thu 09-Apr-20 20:11:17

I don't think it should be either/or - there should be a monument to all those who kept going to keep us safe, and a support fund for families who've lost loved ones.

I would be happy to donate to both these causes, as I'm sure many others would.

sodapop Thu 09-Apr-20 19:51:24

Support fund for families is a better idea I agree.

phoenix Thu 09-Apr-20 18:44:50

Agree.

GagaJo Thu 09-Apr-20 18:38:55

I'd donate to. And to a support fund, although the state should also fund it.

Eglantine21 Thu 09-Apr-20 18:32:37

Monuments are Ok but a support fund for families who are facing life without a father or a mother would be even better.

Oopsminty Thu 09-Apr-20 18:17:58

My family discussed this.

We all think it's a great idea

Tangerine Thu 09-Apr-20 18:11:02

Sorry, Septimia.

Tangerine Thu 09-Apr-20 18:10:48

I agree and would be happy to donate to it, as suggested by Septima.

Septimia Thu 09-Apr-20 18:09:02

Yes, WWmark public donation would be appropriate - after all, they're doing it for all of us, not just (or even) for the government.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 09-Apr-20 18:02:39

My preference would be that it was done by public donation.

M0nica Thu 09-Apr-20 18:01:13

Absolutely agree. They could be erected the way we have war memorials, with one big one in London like the Cenotaph.

JenniferEccles Thu 09-Apr-20 17:25:23

That sounds a very good idea.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 09-Apr-20 17:20:32

I’m including nhs staff in this

EllanVannin Thu 09-Apr-20 17:18:54

Plaques with their names and put in the entrances of their workplaces all signed by a prominent figure.

growstuff Thu 09-Apr-20 17:14:22

I agree absolutely and 100%! That's the very least the public could do. I was shocked at how many bus drivers have died (and healthcare workers, of course).
