ANGER

We need to be angry. We need to hold the government to account.

Yes, many of the populace are not abiding by the very lax lockdown. BUT the government should have abided by the WHO advice to TEST, TEST, TEST. By not doing that, they will have cost tens of thousands of British deaths. Our family members, our friends, our colleagues.

When this is over / slowing down, they need to be held accountable. We had THREE months notice. We watched Italy and Spain. And yet, they did nothing.

Perhaps those doctors wore badges ‘vote labour’ and had
a large framed photograph of Corbyn in their consulting rooms, doesn’t mean they voted labour though.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 17-Apr-20 18:45:57

Chewbacca do grow up, of course they weren't asked.

Chewbacca Fri 17-Apr-20 18:20:01

You've made some very salient and positive points in your post lemon; particularly regarding the doom merchant's prophecies that no retired NHS workers would return to voluntarily help out.

GrannyLaine Fri 17-Apr-20 18:06:12

I agree Lemongrove, well said.

Glorybee Fri 17-Apr-20 17:24:48

Great post Lemongrove.

Chewbacca Fri 17-Apr-20 17:24:11

The majority of the Dr at my surgery vote Labour

This post wins Daftest Post of The Week Award ?

But I'd love to have seen the GPS faces when they were each asked! grin

maddyone Fri 17-Apr-20 17:22:30

Ooops, PPE

Well said.

Absolutely. This is a worldwide problem. Every country without exception is struggling to get enough PPE. There is a worldwide shortage of PPE. Is that really too difficult to understand for some people? I have a vested interest in the provision of PPE, my daughter and her husband are doctors and need to wear PPE when seeing patients. I know that many Gransnetters are in the same position, their adult children work in ITU. This is not Party political, any government would find it difficult to source sufficient POE.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 17-Apr-20 17:18:54

A certain mask which we could purchase for £1 each is now being sold by our supplier for £3 each. I am afraid this is the same across a lot of PPE products. Some Companies are getting rich on Covid-19.

lemongrove Fri 17-Apr-20 17:12:48

The simplistic party political bashing goes on unabated on GN, oh, this is all wrong, that's all wrong, blah blah as the armchair critics have a field day.Which means that they seriously think [unbelievably] that all would be tickety boo if only t'other party were in control.
all the 'the NHS has been run into the ground' nonsense.... from what I have seen with family members in hospital, and what is happening now [ spare beds in ICU for serious cases and two new hospitals already up and running] this is certainly not the case, and the NHS is coping very well with this crisis, so all the doom mongers who were saying not very long ago, with sad shakes of the head 'oh it won't manage at all, it will collapse' and the same doom mongers who were also saying ' no GP's or nurses will come out of recent retirement to help, why should they?!' have been proved very wrong.

lemongrove Fri 17-Apr-20 17:02:01

Barmey….you can't possibly know if the GP's at your surgery 'all vote Labour'. that's just you hoping that they do! They probably all vote differently, like all other people.
I remember hospitals in the later Blair years as being quite dirty when my DD was in there for a month, thankfully they have got much better in the years since.I 'm not sure what it was down to ( certainly not politics) as it's too easy to continually blame that.

Oopsminty Fri 17-Apr-20 16:53:18

the ineffective scramble to supply staff with the necessary PPE

When will those mentioning PPE learn that this is a worldwide issue?

The world didn't have enough PPE.

It's as simple as that.

It's a huge worry for not only the staff, but the relatives of hospital workers.

And I believe if you were to be admitted to hospital with Coronavirus now, your care would be exemplary. The NHS is doing a fabulous job with this.

maddyone Fri 17-Apr-20 16:24:09

Callistemon
Thank you for your support. The incident you describe about the rooms used as offices in a hospital shows us quite clearly that no government is perfect with regard to the NHS.
I have recently had surgery, in January, just before all this took off. I cannot fault the care I received, it was outstanding.
I was in hospital during the Blair years with a serious infection. My care was not outstanding unfortunately. A catalogue of mistakes were made with my care, including not receiving medication that had been prescribed to make me well, pretty important with a life threatening infection. My point is that the government in charge makes little difference to the care you receive in hospital.

maddyone Fri 17-Apr-20 16:14:54

As a matter of fact, the thing I’m most angry about is the way our oldest people in care homes are being treated. I’m so glad my elderly mother lives in a sheltered apartment. I know she is lonely and isolated, but at least she’s in the safest place.
I’m also unhappy that time was wasted on the ridiculous, in my opinion, decision to go for a herd immunity policy. I’d like to know which idiot advised the government on that one, but they will be protected and we’ll never know who it was.

Callistemon Fri 17-Apr-20 15:40:20

And be thankful you did not have to go into Stafford Hospital for your operation.

Who knew about the virus in December moggie?
China who tried to suppress any news?
Then locked down Wuhan and the world hoped it would not spread?

Callistemon Fri 17-Apr-20 15:36:44

Try living in Wales.
Labour run and far worse.

moggie57 Fri 17-Apr-20 15:35:53

do you know they actually knew about the virus in dec 2019 .and did nothing .then was the time to make sure hospitals etc had the equipment and PPE .not wait till the virus got here.....common colds are a different strain from the covid 19....

Barmeyoldbat Fri 17-Apr-20 15:30:31

I also remember going in for an operation and not having to wait very long. Also I had a great of hospital appointments at that time and the wait was far shorter than we have now. Also now we have an extra layer between Dr and hospitals who are a private company and they will assess you first.

Callistemon Fri 17-Apr-20 15:15:59

Barmeyoldbat I remember being in hospital during the time of the last Labour Government and yes, I was very well looked after indeed once I managed eventually to get on to that ward.

However, I also remember asking the sister in charge of the ward (all single rooms for reasons of infection control) why they were not using the rooms beyond mine and she said they desperately needed them for patients but that they had been taken away from them to use as offices for the increase in management staff.
She was angry and upset.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 17-Apr-20 15:07:26

I didn't say you shouldn't clap if you voted Tory and yes they have some equipment but what protective clothing and testing? Yes I am angry, as I said we should all be angry at the number of people dying, especially those who died because they were working.

Callistemon Fri 17-Apr-20 14:42:43

And oopsminty.

You have no right to tell anyone they should not clap NHS staff, Barmeyoldbat.

And no, I didn't vote for them but neither did I vote for Corbyn.

Callistemon Fri 17-Apr-20 14:39:23

maddyone well said.

In fact, there was not much more being offered to the NHS in the last Labour manifesto than the Conservatives were offering and who knows how they would have coped?

Had they won, that £3 billion extra would have been squandered in a flash on more management roles and the money would have disappeared before this crisis happened
That is what happened last time they were in power and resulted in the needless N Staffs deaths.

I do agree, maddyone, everyone is applauding the magnificent work the NHS staff are doing and everyone else keeping the country going at this critical time.

Whatever they voted.
