When we are eventually allowed outside will you be wearing a mask? Some countries have made it mandatory but the WHO were saying the other day that it dosn’t necessarily protect you. If you were infectious but didn’t know it might stop you infecting others if you coughed on them. But would it make you feel safer by wearing one and what sort would you wear?
I think I might, I just don’t know.

Why can’t masks be made compulsory in England ??

ElaineI Fri 10-Jul-20 20:19:05

Went to Sainsburys this morning and everyone was wearing masks including the staff. Glad I am in Scotland. It is not infallible but reduces the level of spread and if everyone wears one others protect you and you protect others. This is a danger point when we start emerging from lockdown and so does the virus. It is still there.

Friend just msgd me from Stornoway ,she was going to the Co-op and decided to sit outside for a wee while to see how many were wearing masks ,she counted 74 ..thats everyone who came out in the half hour she was there .Well done Stornoway .Glad to see so many complying wth the advice,Police Scotland posted that they are relying on folk to be sensible but they will fine anyone who refuses to comply.

no wonder they want to be independent.

welbeck Fri 10-Jul-20 23:23:11

clearer stricter govt guidelines, leading to greater compliance, leading to fewer infections ? i think, hope so.

Nicola Sturgeon actually explained to people why it was necessary for people in Scotland to wear masks. If only we had politicians in England that were capable of having a grown up conversation with people about the need to wear them maybe people would embrace the idea.

Yes indeed I'm wearing a mask when I go out where there are other people! In the supermarket, which is the only place I've been up to now, but we'll be going to Costa Coffee tomorrow and also to some non essential stores which are now opened, and I will definitely be wearing my mask there. I have to say that in every store I"ve been in , in the last few weeks I'm definitely in the minority here in the south of England when it comes to wearing masks, it's very worrying.

Furret Sat 11-Jul-20 06:48:28

Why on earth wouldn’t you?

* I'm educated enough to know that I could be asymptomatic and still give you the virus.

*No, I don't "live in fear" of the virus; I just want to be part of the solution, not the problem.

*I don't feel like the "government controls me". I feel like I'm an adult contributing to security in our society.

* If we could all live with the consideration of others in mind, the whole world would be a much better place.

*Wearing a mask doesn't make me weak, scared, stupid or even "controlled". Makes me caring.

* When you think about your appearance, discomfort, or other people's opinion of you, imagine a loved one - a child, father, mother, grandparent, aunt, uncle or even a stranger - placed on a ventilator, alone without you or any family member who is allowed at his bedside.

Just started to look at The Times and got so furious, reading that the fact/Boris is “set to make mask wearing compulsory within the next few weeks”. WHY are we always lagging behind ? Why isn’t it done now ? Delay delay delay should be Boris’s next theee word slogan

Lucca Sat 11-Jul-20 08:25:43

So cross I didn’t edit my post. “The fact” should read “the govt “.

Blinko Sat 11-Jul-20 08:28:49

If wearing a face covering in enclosed spaces helps limit the spread of the virus, why aren't we all doing it? Why wait? Come on, Boris, get on with it!

allium Sat 11-Jul-20 08:35:42

Only in locations where mandatory other than that not bothered

Lucca Sat 11-Jul-20 08:37:31

It’s not mandatory anywhere yet.......mores the pity

Before they were readily available to buy, I made masks out of an old cotton pillowcase, from a pattern I found online.

I’ve been going out to a limited extent all along, but only wear a mask in shops and on the bus (twice lately but didn’t take buses for ages).
I’d also wear one anywhere crowded out of doors, but have yet to go anywhere like that.

Furret Sat 11-Jul-20 11:44:41

I read that a bus driver in France has been attacked and since died after trying to enforce mask wearing on his bus.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 11-Jul-20 12:16:32

UK Governments guidelines are to wear face coverings when social distancing is not possible. My interpretation of that is if I were to use Public Transport, Taxis, go into a small shop, hairdressers etc it is advisable to wear a face covering

Furret Sat 11-Jul-20 12:28:57

I will be wearing a mask.

NannyC2 Sat 11-Jul-20 14:25:19

No - only for short while for mandatory places like hospitals/opticians/dentists.
I knew masks were not good for you and just seen an experiment which proves the level of CO2 when worn.

BlueSky - I can only assume that I am elderly as the government pay me a pension for the privilege.

NannyC2 Sat 11-Jul-20 15:50:36

I did look at your reference Summerlove. It did say some information may be out of date?
Rather then dwelling on the word 'poisoning' which I didn't myself use, it states what overexposure to CO2 can cause in the Fact Sheet further down.

MOST CENSORED VIDEO EVER!! I tested several masks on my 11 year old son using a CO2 monitor and Its been deleted every time I post it. If you want to SEE THE VIDEO THEY DONT WANT YOU TO SEE, I’ve posted it here
twitter.com/…/128155734129337… »

'The HighWire' host Del Bigtree and son, Ever, conducted a test, using an OSHA-approved Carbon-Dioxide meter, which revealed something about masks which YouTube, Facebook, and other video platforms are trying very hard to censor.

CARBON DIOXIDE EXPOSURE EFFECTS – FACT SHEET
Symptoms of overexposure by inhalation include dizziness, headache, nausea, rapid breathing, shortness of
breath, deeper breathing, increased heart rate (tachycardia), eye and extremity twitching, cardiac
arrhythmia, memory disturbances, lack of concentration, visual and hearing disturbances (including
photophobia, blurred vision, transient blindness, hearing loss and ringing in the ears), sweating, restlessness,
vomiting, shaking, confusion, flushed skin, panic, parathesis (a sensation of numbness in the extremities),
disorientation, convulsions, unconsciousness, coma, and death.

Your reasons are all my reasons why I will be wearing a mask /face covering when in proximity to other people.
Good post (if you are in the “I will wear a mask” camp).

WOODMOUSE49 Sat 11-Jul-20 16:14:32

I always have and will continue to do so until I feel safe.

I see about 25% of people wearing them in the 2 supermarkets I visit. Sainsbury’s and Morrison’s.

Both supermarkets have excellent safety measures in place.

Surgeons and dentists wear them all day. You don’t see them keeling over on the job.
Key workers , not just NHS wear “worse” all day.
Is it too much to ask for us to wear a fetching little cotton mask?.

Granarchist Sat 11-Jul-20 16:33:33

if the co2 was a problem - please explain why my daughter is in full PPE on a 12hr shift (they cannot remove them because then it all has to be changed) - she and countless other medics would be dropping like flies.
