They didn't REQUEST it until Sunday. It isn't late at all.

*'On the Turkish side, two sources said a formal request from the UK related to the PPE consignment was not made until Sunday and the Turkish authorities immediately assisted.

The sources also revealed that the manufacturer of the goods bound for the UK only submitted a request to the Turkish ministry of health on Monday for permission to export the gear.'*

grannylaine don’t read it then if it makes you sick. Simples!

In the meantime we are expected to believe every word that comes from governments in other countries such as China, France etc.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 22-Apr-20 11:36:47

Our local hospital has less people in ICU than normal, less people on normal wards. I appreciate that this is partly due to non urgent operations and procedures being cancelled, it is a sign that the NHS is currently coping.
(Our other hospital is also under occupied and coping despite what the Labour Activist Nurse is stating on twitter and tv interviews)

MaizieD Wed 22-Apr-20 11:37:19

Actually, I apologise for jumping, GrannyL. I thought a link to the FT story had already been posted on this thread.

I'm sure I've seen one somewhere on GNet this morning, but it's clearly not on this thread...

I saw it reported on twitter much earlier...

MaizieD Wed 22-Apr-20 11:42:57

Oh, look:

Presumably you've read the link now GrannyLaine so understand what the graph is about.

"Every little detail" presumably refers to a few thousand deaths (of real people). I'm not going to apologise for relaying information about them.

BTW You're supposed to wear a face mask round your nose and mouth, not your eyes.

Andrew Neil

After today's exchanges at PMQs it is clear that the United Kingdom now has a functioning, probing, measured, informed Official Opposition. The government will need to raise its game.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Apr-20 13:07:58

D. A Green

PMQs is like watching a City solicitor trying to wing it against an experienced QC

Which is, in fact, what it actually is

Urmstongran Wed 22-Apr-20 13:08:30

Good. An effective opposition is always beneficial. Keep the government on its toes!

GagaJo Wed 22-Apr-20 13:15:35

It'd have to get to its feet first...

growstuff Wed 22-Apr-20 13:16:38

How does one find out whether a hospital has fewer people in ICU than normal?

I would be interested to know. GrannyGravy?

My local hospital tracks patients, but doesn't state how this relates to "normal".

www.cuh.nhs.uk/news/communcations/covid-19-weekly-update-7-april-2020

I can see how many critical care patients the hospital has, but I can't tell if they're in purpose built units with the correct equipment.

My oh my, MaizieD actually posting a link to a Daily Mail article - how strange Maizie, you normally have nothing but loathing for the DM and its readers. Amazing that you post a link to it when you find an article that serves your argument?

"Slow into lockdown, slow on testing, slow on PPE and now slow on taking up offers on protective equipment." - Devastating indictment from Starmer which Raab was unable to refute

Music to my ears

Starmer's style is menacingly polite: "I didn't need correcting", "I put him on notice"

GagaJo Wed 22-Apr-20 13:21:07

Oooo I like a bit of menacing. I may warm to him.

Opal Wed 22-Apr-20 13:22:41

WWM2 After today's exchanges at PMQs it is clear that the United Kingdom now has a functioning, probing, measured, informed Official Opposition

This implies that the Official Opposition beforehand was not functioning, ignorant, extreme and uninformed - and yet you were shouting their praises a few months ago, and were encouraging us all to vote for them! And here you are now, expecting us to pay any heed to what you have to say? Ain't gonna happen.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Apr-20 13:25:32

Oh there you go again OPAL telling me about myself. Try to stop the PERSONAL REMARKS and instead address the argument

GagaJo Wed 22-Apr-20 13:26:55

It isn't about what Tory supporters think Opal. Anymore than you care what we think about the party you support.

And FYI, we supported JC and STILL think he was a great politician. Tory opinion irrelevant.

HOWEVER, the thread is about the mismanagement of the C19 crisis. Do try to stay on track.

growstuff in answer to your question regarding local ICU, my dear friend of over 40 years is Senior Nurse in the Dept.

GrannyLaine Wed 22-Apr-20 13:33:52

MaizieD Thank you, I did look but couldn't find a link. Its nice to see someone has some manners on this thread. I'm not even going to dignify the silly spiteful remarks with a reply. True colours indeed.

maddyone Wed 22-Apr-20 13:40:45

Another thread has descended into nastiness and point scoring from some Gransnetters. For goodness sake, we’re in the middle of the worst pandemic for a century, can’t we try to be civil at least.

growstuff Wed 22-Apr-20 13:48:48

That's nice GrannyGravy but what she's saying is obviously only anecdotal. I am in contact with two consultants - one in Cambridge and another in Manchester - both of whom are claiming the number of critical care beds are inadequate, as is staffing and the equipment needed to care for people safely.

Obviously, what they're telling me is also anecdotal - as is what your dear friends says. That's why I was looking for some concrete evidence of available beds. Addenbrookes reports the number of patients in critical care, admissions, deaths, etc, but there's nothing about empty beds or spare capacity.

growstuff Wed 22-Apr-20 13:50:50

I disagree with you maddyone. I'm trying to find out some facts! I'm not interested in point scoring, but I am fed up with unsubstantiated claims by people to support their own political arguments.

Facts, please, not anecdotes, promises or lies!

April 22: 36 companies have told Keir Starmer's Labour Party that their offers to provide PPE to the UK government have not had a response.

Labour on Wednesday published a list of companies which had agreed to be named, as well as the PPE they had offered to provide to Boris Johnson's government.

They include Issa Exchange Ltd in Birmingham, which said it offered a quarter of a million aprons and masks, and Network Medical Products in Ripon, which says it can provide 100,000
face visors a week.
