They didn't REQUEST it until Sunday. It isn't late at all.

*'On the Turkish side, two sources said a formal request from the UK related to the PPE consignment was not made until Sunday and the Turkish authorities immediately assisted.

The sources also revealed that the manufacturer of the goods bound for the UK only submitted a request to the Turkish ministry of health on Monday for permission to export the gear.'*

You THINK wrong, Gagjo,

I'm not following this thread but I can see that ChrisT didn't say that at all.
It's a vile thread

I have popped in just to see what depths people will go to. There is an awful air of triumphalism amongst many who dislike this government

This is no time to be screeching.

Thank goodness for the likes of Eglantine21 and Callistemon

Eglantine21 I was naive to hope that people in the UK would put aside their political differences to pull together in a national emergency

I THINK you'll find those are your words ChrisT.

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 21:49:45

MaizieD You just tell me who isn't 'pulling together', ChrisT?

Ummm. I can't, because, you see, I didn't say that.

MaizieD Tue 21-Apr-20 21:47:05

I might also put on record that I am utterly furious that it is much worse than it should have been because of the sheer incompetence and idiocy of our government.

But that doesn't stop me, or others who feel like me, from doing what we're meant to be doing, and supporting all our front line workers.

It's just that we're doing it for our fellow citizens, not for the useless government angry

I think you'll find that a large proportion of the population (about 80% it's said) is doing everything they can to slow the spread of the virus by observing the lockdown as meticulously as they possibly can. For a significant number of them this is causing great hardship. But they're doing it. That, in my book, is a splendid exhibition of 'pulling together'. What more do you want us to do?

Criticising the government's handling of the crisis is not in any way endangering the solidarity of the population's actions. Criticising on party lines won't have any adverse effect on its action. So what/where is your problem?

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 20:59:18

We are at least 4 months into this, it's not happened yet.

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 20:56:46

Sounds good to me. All hands forward in a national emergency.

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 20:35:53

GagaJo There is good and bad, capable and incapable of all political colours.

If it is supposed to be a non-political crisis, why are other parties being forced to be in opposition? Let's all be in this together, starting at the 'top'.

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 20:29:34

ChrisT, as a die-hard Labour supporter, I can say, hand on heart, if ANY Labour MP went in and was useless / lied I would castigate them as much as any other.

I'm repeating this ad nauseam. This is NOT party politics. This is OUR leaders getting it wrong. Whoever the hell they are. Could be a Labour govt getting it wrong. I'd still protest.

ChrisT Tue 21-Apr-20 20:07:12

Eglantine21 I was naive to hope that people in the UK would put aside their political differences to pull together in a national emergency

I'm sure that as soon as Johnson appoints the more capable Labour MP to positions where Tories have floundered, that will happen.

coggie Tue 21-Apr-20 19:26:55

Lets face it Mary Berry ( or just about anybody else for that matter) would stand head and shoulders above Mr. J.

*Meanwhile, Nissan in Sunderland are distributing 100,000 face visors a week
But 'some people' don't want to hear good news, do they*

What good news? That a few people get the equipment that will stop them from dying? Fantastic.

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 19:20:08

Thanks for the suggestion. I prefer the Guardian personally, but each to their own.

Opal Tue 21-Apr-20 19:10:45

Since when has the Daily Heil been "beloved" by me? All of the tabloids are as bad as one another, no matter which side of the political divide they're on.

I suggest you listen to Jenny Harries on youtube and maybe consider having an adult conversation on here about PPE, rather than just another anti-Government rant. It would be far more helpful.

GagaJo Tue 21-Apr-20 18:54:39

Opal.

They said PPE would be here. It isn’t. Not sure how that’s incorrect, but if you say so.

There IS PPE in the UK. It was offered to the UK but they couldn’t get the deal organised. It’s in your beloved Daily Heil so it MUST be true!

Don’t be sycophantic Callistemon. I evidenced her aggressive language.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 21-Apr-20 18:44:25

Blimey opal I can’t remember saying that. You seem to know more about me than me!!

It was Osborne who said it. I was quoting him.

And yes I agree with Osborne, but it will almost certainly never happen again as I see he’s calling for an immediate return to austerity.

Back to screwing the poor. Our wonderful essential workers didn’t last long did it?

Opal Tue 21-Apr-20 18:38:03

Starmer will stand head and shoulders above Johnson - what a load of twaddle. I seem to remember you saying the same thing about Corbyn, and look where that ended up!

And as for the OP, why don't you practice what you preach Gagajo, and be honest. You thought you'd try having yet another go at this Government, by twisting the facts, and you've been called out on it. Nothing aggressive about it, you've just been put right, that's all.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 21-Apr-20 18:24:21

How do you know eglatine? Because you haven’t seen anything in the media?

Starmer will stand head and shoulders above Johnson, as will his shadow cabinet. Even Osborne recognised that.

The trouble is we don’t live in normal times, and Starmer who is sitting in the cobra weekly meetings of course keeps them confidential, so you simply don’t know what he is saying or doing.

And you can be absolutely sure that the government won’t publicise his contribution.

Eglantine21 Tue 21-Apr-20 18:04:42

No WWM, I’m saying he’s done nothing to help. I had such high hopes when he was appointed and seemed to indicate that party politics were not the important thing and that everybody should do whatever they could to overcome this virus.

And then nothing really.

I really (dumbly) thought the best people from whatever side the political spectrum would want to help and not just work at turning this crisis to their advantage.

I thought people were better than they are...........

Whitewavemark2 Tue 21-Apr-20 18:03:32

He’s being left out to dry.

Riverwalk Tue 21-Apr-20 18:00:29

Hancock looked at the end of his tether during this evening's briefing - hesitant and stumbling. Looked like he was about to burst into tears!

I think it's getting too much for him.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 21-Apr-20 17:40:40

No 10 knives out for Hancock. Telegraph echoing Cummings in its headlines

Whitewavemark2 Tue 21-Apr-20 17:30:17

Ooh language jane????

Jane10 Tue 21-Apr-20 17:26:33

What a waste of time arguing about this. It's not a matter of 'victory' FFS.
