Watching Dominic Cummings being grilled on tv by journalists Asking the same questions over and over. It is obvious from the guidelines which he read out that he was not breaking them.
His family and especially his child must come first. He did what he thought was best.
Leave the poor man alone.

Cummings even admitted that he hadn't made any effort at all to find alternative child care in London.
Am still raging. This is so damaging to the government. How can this one SPAD be worth it?

lemongrove Tue 26-May-20 18:17:44

Nodding GanGan ??Excellent post in my view, sort of what I think too, and probably many others. The MSM is delighted to whip up strong feelings.Tory MP’s getting in on the act are those who dislike Cummings, it’s obvious they would use this to try and oust him. I would be amazed if Johnson gave in to it though by throwing him to the wolfpack of the media.

Oh lemon you always get taken in by these bots. It was just the same during the brexit referendum. You always agreed with the bots coming on to influence us. You fall for it hook line and sinker.

A question for those defending Cummings: what if he’d been stopped by the police en route to Durham? Or had an accident? How many key workers might he have infected ? I don’t suppose they count as they are not doing such important work as him.

Whereas you Whitewave never fell for any of the Momentum bots we had on here last year I suppose.?
Tbh, I don’t care who the writer is, if they write what I see as a sensible post.Just as I may agree ( or not agree) with what a journalist writes.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 18:36:51

What momentum bots??? No wonder you can’t recognise one

eazybee Tue 26-May-20 18:36:59

My theory, based on nothing but intuition, is that Mrs. Cummings is Mr. Cummings Achilles' heel. She appears to have panicked because she thought she, and then the child, had contracted corona virus; he made the decision to move them to Durham for child care as she appeared unable to cope; he contracted the virus himself; once recovered he needed to return to London but Mrs. Cummings appeared unable to drive the family back.
This is pure speculation. I have very little knowledge of Dominic Cummings and none whatsoever of his wife, but I cannot see any other reason for him jeopardising his role and putting the Conservative party in such a dangerous position.

Oldbat1 Tue 26-May-20 18:41:02

Noddinggangan I really think you must need help. I cannot believe you support the double standards shown by this arrogant man.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 18:41:27

Nah! They went to Durham for a jolly.

Oldbat1 Tue 26-May-20 18:44:03

The North East has the highest death rate in the country so him driving from London WITH COVID is totally unforgivable in my eyes. We have the highest infection rate currently - I wonder why?

lemongrove Tue 26-May-20 18:48:29

Whitewave if every time there is a new name on here (that you don’t agree with) they are dismissed as a bot, then it works both ways.....last year there were a couple of new names who posted in praise of Corbyn non stop.It doesn’t matter though, as posters will either agree with the content or not, as the case may be.
If the posts are well written, they are still worthy of consideration.

'71 percent of Brits think Boris Johnson's top aide broke lockdown rules.'

'59 percent think he should resign.'

From the BBC website
Citing a YouGov poll conducted today, a journalist from the Financial Times says 71% of the public believed Mr Cummings's drive to Durham broke the lockdown rules. He asks whether all those people misunderstood the rules.

Mr Hancock doesn't answer the question directly but says: "The guidelines were drafted with exceptional circumstances in mind."

^ If you have adults that are unable to look after a small child, that is an exceptional circumstance, he says. ^

"It is reasonable to conclude that the description of events that Mr Cummings put out yesterday was within the guidelines."

How many times do we have to point out they weren't unable to look after their own child, he says he thought it might happen, so he travelled 260 miles with a presumed infected person against all the rules. Nobody with suspected coronavirus was to leave their home. They didn't need any help so his "thought" was wrong. If they did find themselves needing help then they could have availed themselves of the nieces' offer and one or both could travel to London quite legally to care for the child.

nodding isn’t new - I remember the name from previous posts.
Lemongrove Tory MP’s getting in on the act are those who dislike Cummings, it’s obvious they would use this to try and oust him. Odd as it may seem, there are actually some Tories who are honest and have personal integrity, who believe that Dominic Cummings, having made a mistake, should have apologised. Like their constituents, they are angry that he hasn’t apologised and are speaking out because they believe that he should resign.
Which bit of that is a problem for you? Do you believe that MPs should have blind loyalty to their party leader, and his unelected adviser, however compromised their position?

Of course we all know what happened to the last lot of Tory MPs who voted with their consciences, don’t we? It will be interesting to see how Boris Johnson/Dominic Cummings deal with this lot.

MawB Tue 26-May-20 19:12:31

Mary Wakefield would have been perfectly capable of driving home if DomCum’s eyes had been causing concern.
In case the print at the bottom is too small to read easily she says how she drove an hour every morning when she lived in the US.

Whingingmom Tue 26-May-20 19:13:53

In comparison, there is no witch hunt or call for resignations of 4 Labour MPs who broke lockdown, including one who attended a funeral with 100 other guests.
Similarly no castigation for Prince Charles who hot footed it to his second (or third or fourth?) home in Scotland whilst actively infected with COVID.

MawB Tue 26-May-20 19:14:48

And there’s always Specsavers

Luckygirl Tue 26-May-20 19:15:58

MawB - love it!!

Luckygirl Tue 26-May-20 19:19:23

Whingingmom - none of them WROTE the rules!!!

lemongrove Tue 26-May-20 19:20:31

Jane....none of that is ‘a problem’ for me, I don’t get angry about that kind of thing. What I do think, is that there are quite a few Tory MP’s who can’t stand Cummings. However the fact is, that like him or loathe him he has helped them win a stunning victory in the last GE, and helped Johnson unlock the stalemate in Parliament regarding Brexit.
Johnson would be a fool to ditch him just at the moment.
Cummings had made many enemies on his way to the top who are just itching to take him down in any way possible.
They don’t care two hoots about him issuing apologies, they just want him gone. There is infighting in the Tory Party every bit as much as the LP.

janipat Tue 26-May-20 19:32:12

MawB I posted that Spectator picture earlier today on this thread and the one in news and politics. Nobody seemed to take any notice. I think it's a question that needs answering. Why, if his fitness to drive was in doubt didn't she drive them home without the test drive to Castle Barnard? She's obviously a confident driver to drive on the i35 so the A1 would be a doddle, especially in lock down, with fewer cars on the road.

janipat Tue 26-May-20 19:36:34

oops got it the wrong way round Barnard Castle smile

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 19:40:17

Welcome whingingmom

Another new one.

They are coming in thick and fast

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 19:41:36

I'm just beyond livid.
They don't even care enough to come up with one credible reason for any of it.
