The Cummings Effect - are people rebelling?

My very law abiding neighbours seem to have changed since the Cummings interview.

One couple headed off to their second home the day after and I have noticed that others are no longer observing the 2 metre advice.

This is a very small community and I am wondering if others are not complying now with the rules.

If this is happening across the country then it is very worrying. I know many people are angry and feel betrayed.

MaiseD I apologise. Alice, not Linda. You are correct.

angiemary64 Thu 28-May-20 13:17:02

Yes PANTGLAS I too thought of that phrase. Indeed everytime l see Boris spouting l see an "out of touch"Squire.

ALANaV Thu 28-May-20 13:19:17

Well I for one am onto the KLM or Air France website ...they are re opening flights to Paris and Amsterdam as from next week or the week after ….and if I pass the airport temperature test I am off…...I can if required self isolate for 14 days in either country and if we don't resume a resemblance of normal life soon I am afraid we never will.

EMMYPEMMY Thu 28-May-20 13:24:39

Rules? What are we, Human Beings, we make our own decisions then face the Consequences as many children do... But hey we have a Pandemic why are we concentrating on what he does , drop it now it's gone on for days Who really cares People with money break many many rules a law unto themselves. Let Boris get on with this Pandemic and do what he has to do ...... Mental Health also , some people are suffering tremendously. If people carry on with this Cummings Saga the guy may have a breakdown, then who will be responsible....?

Chris0 Thu 28-May-20 13:25:21

I am angry with Cummings for doing what he has done but now more so with Boris. Any respect I may have had for him has gone because he refused to sack Cummings for his blatant disregard for lockdown.

Saggi Thu 28-May-20 13:26:26

No I’m not relaxing my personal rules ..... I wouldn’t stoop so low..... we have to rise above the ‘Cummings ‘ of this world .... who think their ‘instincts ‘ for their children ....so far outweigh our instincts for our loved ones! He’s a moron . I will not give him another thought!

So Cummings broke the law.

There is no such thing as a “minor breach” btw only a breach.

Johnson says matter closed.

This will only infuriate people further.

Maybe the majority of us who are trying to be responsible citizens in spite of everything, and are still doing our best to protect others, and will continue to do so, should collectively show ( on an ongoing basis) our disapproval of this PM and his adviser who have shown such disrespect to us?

I think I'm going to get a T shirt with the words REVOLTING PEASANT printed on it - and ask my ACs to circulate the pictures via all their social media. But I need some ideas for the picture or logo.....

NoddingGanGan Thu 28-May-20 13:39:04

MaizieD another apology for getting your name wrong and to say really good idea to have fact list. Whitewave it's a minor breach because he endangered nobody. He went out which the rules state you can, "with good reason" they have decided that he didn't have good reason but because that is subjective he can't be deemed to have deliberately broken them and because, once out, he observed all the rules of social distancing, his breaking of the rules has caused no harm.

I must admit, it took me a while to get used to BJ as PM and I was actually beginning to like him. That was until the DC debacle. Now, I have lost all respect for him and believe he is incapable of being PM. IMO he has shown how weak he is and that he cannot do without DC propping him up. I sat and listened to the DC interview this week and couldn’t believe what he was saying. Surely he doesn’t expect people to actually believe what he was saying? IMO he took all of us for fools and must think we are all utterly stupid. Certainly over the past 2 to 3 days around where I live it seems everyone is back to normal. The beaches are packed, a huge number of cars are back on the road and my local high street has been heaving with no one social distancing at all. Is this because of DC? I don’t know but around where I live it’s certainly back to pre lockdown conditions.

Lizbethann55 Thu 28-May-20 13:47:16

The deputy mayor of Liverpool has stood down temporarily . Her daughter arranged a surprise 50th birthday party in their garden. Judging by the photo there was not much social distancing happening and absolutely no isolating.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 13:53:59

noddinggan

There is no such thing as a minor breach. It is a breach or not.

Cummings certainly did endanger life as he categorically states that his eyes were bad enough to be in some doubt as to whether he could drive.

Take this at face value and he broke the law. No question.

Not that any if it is true. He went up north on a jolly

Codyodo Thu 28-May-20 13:56:05

As my mum used to say.
“If —— jumped off cliff, would you!?”
For a so called clever man, he is extremely STUPID !

Galaxy Thu 28-May-20 14:00:05

Nodding he went into Downing Street so he did endanger life.

Kim19 Thu 28-May-20 14:05:38

My disdain of DC &co will be dealt with at the ballot box. Pity it's so far away. In the past, when I was trying to shelve blame for a foul action to another, I always remember my Mum saying 'And if ??? stuck her hand in the fire, would you do that too?' Think this applies here.

Joyfulnanna Thu 28-May-20 14:11:59

I'm with you Lexi Reprensible behaviour by Cummings but people acting like sheep following his example is selfish. My DH and I disagree that he should have been sacked. I think he should have.

Jishere Thu 28-May-20 14:13:59

Emmypemmy it's incredibly sad that mental health has been affected but the mental health and pain lots have endured to now realise you could have done what Cummings did, is unforgivable.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 14:36:00

Dominic Cummings I would drive 260 miles

I believe getting people to comply with Track and Trace will be harder now after what Cummings has got away with.

People who are healthy will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days if they have been near someone who has tested positive for Covid.

Think what this will mean for self- employed and and other workers, who will only receive sick pay for that 2 weeks.

They could go back to work then find that they have again been in contact with Covid so another 2 weeks at home.

This will be a very big ask of the public and as people have less trust in government thanks to DC I think some may decide not to comply.

cupaffull Thu 28-May-20 15:23:20

Must admit, have seen neighbours become more cavalier but I would do as much as needed to preserve everyone's safety.

mrneduc Thu 28-May-20 15:24:21

The MSM are biased and people believe it. I think I would have done the same as Dominic Cummings looking for care for a severely autistic 4 yr old. Can’t pass any child around like a parcel especially with such needs

georgia101 Thu 28-May-20 15:25:17

I think people would have done these things anyway but are using the Cummings incident to justify their actions.

Suz2 Thu 28-May-20 15:26:15

I believe what DC did is disappointing, BJ's reaction is also disappointing. But my family and I will continue to do what keeps us safe and hopefully others as well. We have neighbours that have bbq's regularly and hear them ringing around inviting people. Monday bank holiday was a nightmare where we sat missing our families while they had a 10 hour party and garden full. I have heard them say they feel people should just be allowed to use their own common sense and they do feel it doesn't and will not affect them. They are enjoying being off work Their behaviour hasn't changed because of DC but their behaviour and attitude is worrying with regards to trace and contact. I agree it is going to be interesting to see if there is a renewed spike. One of my son's works in a care home and they have just got CoVid back in the building again!!

Jishere Thu 28-May-20 15:26:31

White wave very funny???

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 15:28:10

I think it’s brilliant jishere????
