Has anyone an uneasy feeling that it's happening deflect the uncomfortable questions boris and co are facing?

lemongrove Fri 29-May-20 14:20:21

Agreed Maddyone the morbid and morose British press,
With friends like that, who needs enemies??

maddyone Fri 29-May-20 14:16:41

Do you know ladies, I’m just weary of it all. I’ve been as spirited as anyone with my opinions, some agreed, some disagreed, but I’m at the stage where I just want it all to end. It’s not going to of course, but the politics, the never ending morbid press, the we did this wrong, the comparisons etc. The one thing I’m certain of is that lockdown was too late in Britain. And the other thing I know is my tooth is hurting and I’m waiting for another phone call from the dentist.

I’m so very sorry. To lose your daughter from Covid19 is a terrible thing to happen. I’m so sorry. And in addition the loss of three friends. There are no words flowers

That's it exactly Lemongrove your last paragraph, in a nutshell!

Pantglas2 Fri 29-May-20 14:06:23

I could give chapter and verse on mismanagement of the Labour administration here in Wales but the English left wing on GN manage to ignore or make convoluted excuses for them!

Try living it folks before you criticise The Tories and believing, against all evidence under your noses, that unicorns exist in Labourland!

lemongrove Fri 29-May-20 13:55:26

If some posters think that easing the lockdown is only to distract from the ‘Cummings affair’ then why precisely do they think that Scotland and Wales and NI are doing very much the same as England? Doesn’t stack up does it!

The UK has to get slowly back to some sort of normality for the sake of having good mental health, education and the economy.A cautious return to seeing family and friends and
Relaxing outdoors, playing certain sports and garden centres open, with soon some non essential shops opening, dentists etc is all good.
Of course it doesn’t mean that you have to do any of those things, and if you feel that’s the correct course for you, because of age and/or underlying conditions, then stay close to home.

How does a thread survive if we have all got or suppose to have the same opionion?
I think for some this has been a release and yes maybe a tidal wave of emotions but that's got to better than bottling up how you feel especially when lots are on there own during this.

Sussexborn Fri 29-May-20 13:26:04

Scorpion. Criticism of Wales is not tolerated on GN no matter how well deserved it may be.

Sussexborn Fri 29-May-20 13:19:16

This post was meant to go elsewhere but probably as relevant here.

Scorpion Fri 29-May-20 13:17:48

The new Wales lockdown lifting restrictions are stupid as it's a licence for multi people street parties to take place NOW . As if this has not been going on ALL the time previously anyway !

Sussexborn Fri 29-May-20 13:13:36

GN is now the home of the truly bigoted small minded who cannot accept that others are entitled to opinions that may differ. Their bullying tactics have seen off many reasonable posters which has been detrimental to the GN forums.

That appears to be the aim of admin, which will lead to the failure of the forum as the boring repetitiveness of those who hijack interesting and unconnected posts, to vent their spite and fury that others had the audacity to vote differently to them.

Their mental health is at serious risk.

Hetty58 Fri 29-May-20 13:08:40

lemsip, all along I've thought that the only logical explanation for government half measures (and inaction) has been 'herd immunity - but just slowed down'.

Therefore, I'm expecting the second wave fairly soon. I'm not taking risks after all this time in isolation, that's for sure, as I've no wish to be in the next batch of victims!

lemsip Fri 29-May-20 13:01:00

lockdown was to stop nhs hospitals being overwhelmed with thousands of covid19 patients all at once! in that way it was successful!!

Jishere Fri 29-May-20 12:51:45

Alanav ???

Jishere Fri 29-May-20 12:50:47

Ditto nanniejcl that's exactly how I feel regarding coming off here because your opinion is only valid if everyone agrees and it is a positive one towards the subject in question.

tidyskatemum Fri 29-May-20 12:42:14

We haven’t got over the first wave yet! Daily deaths still in 3 figures but the government talking as if we’re virtually on the last lap. And don’t get me started on the Mickey Mouse test and trace system. Other countries are using this stuff called technology to rapidly track people while we’ve got something out of the ark.

Nanniejc1 Fri 29-May-20 12:34:56

Exactly Chatterbox2 ,everyone needs to be sensible & the government is damned if they do & damned if they don’t.Cant please everyone & lockdown can’t go on for ever,my children have all been working anyway as they are key workers.Im beginning to think that I should come off ‘Gransnet’,most of the people on here seem to be Boris haters, against the government & Brexit......so sad that there is so many vitriolic & hate filled posts........we all have to get through this.....what happened to being kind?

ALANaV Fri 29-May-20 12:30:09

Definitely for Boris ...track and testing has doubtless been announced before it is ready in order to deflect from Cummings ….good day to bury bad news as was once said by someone ! ….the only thing anyone can do is to take responsibility for themselves just as they would have done in any other circumstances …..i.e. SARS, AIDS, Bird Flu, were all going to obliterate the human race ...Diptheria, Scarlet fever, Spanish flu and the Bubonic plague ….the human race is so far still surviving …..just watch out for the meteorite approaching earth ……..grin

Twig14 Fri 29-May-20 12:27:35

Lockdown appeared to be over this past week. People around lakes here with deckchairs, picnic hampers n rugs. Children running about n going into the water. Never seen so many as for social distancing that appeared to have gone out of the window. Time will tell whether we have a second wave! The good weather has encouraged everyone to go outside. Having lost my DD and 3 friends to Covid19 it’s a concern. It’s not flu which is bad enough but this dreadful virus has no cure!

BoBo53 Fri 29-May-20 12:25:47

I have this morning had a necessary hospital appointment - dodging staff and opening and closing doors was a nightmare. My consultation was fine as we all wore masks and I felt perfectly safe there. Proved how you have to venture out sometimes but I felt such relief when I got back to the car and came home again. Can't see me going shopping for a long time and only seeing family very briefly from a safe distance.

Jishere Fri 29-May-20 12:23:34

Cabbie21 I know this was talked about on another thread. Lots seemed aghast that shopping was delivered and some sat in gardens at a distance chatting.
At the end of the day that is all we have our own risk assessment. Take care and keep safe.

Jishere Fri 29-May-20 12:19:40

Chatterbox there are lots that have, including myself been out since the beginning so we haven't had a choice.
We have the highest death rate in Europe, so as far as I'm concerned they have made many errors along the way. Especially sadly when they knew this virus was coming! This isn't a moan it's my opinion.

growstuff Fri 29-May-20 12:11:31

chatterbox I don't have any choice. I would love to go out, but not when other people are behaving irresponsibly and are spreading infection around with little thought for others.

Lockdown was never wrong. It should have been earlier and stricter. Without a host, the virus would have almost disappeared. Local flare-ups could have been stamped on promptly and efficiently.

Cabbie21 Fri 29-May-20 11:59:16

Nobody seems to mention the idea that one should assess the risk of meeting up with others, according to their circumstances.
I have often met up with my daughter and her daughter who live about 4 miles away as she brings me items I need, staying in the front garden at social distance, and she is keeping very much away from others, but I have no intention of meeting up with my other granddaughter who is 18 and is working in a supermarket as her college is closed and is obviously having to mix with all and sundry. Surely she is more likely to be a carrier of disease? Her mum is now back at work so that family is more risky to me than those who have been more or less self isolating.

Torbroud Fri 29-May-20 11:56:45

Time will tell
