So so pleased to hear that the Queen will be knighting Captain Tom herself .He deserves the best and she truly is whether you are a Royalist or not . Keep safe Your Majesty , your country needs you ?

annepl Nobody called Charles evil and Camilla a witch ?
You know everyone?

annep1 Sat 18-Jul-20 21:37:51

Me is correct. It's the objective pronoun after an adjective Avalon.

Anniebach I don't know everyone. I meant I didn't call them evil or a witch. But I think you know perfectly well that I meant that. For some reason you always want to be aggressive to me. I am puzzled as to why this is. I have even pm'd you to apologise for answers that may have seemed rude because I didn't want to upset you. But I give up. I won't answer any comments you make in future. You seem to get pleasure from being unpleasant to me.

Anniebach Sat 18-Jul-20 21:50:10

annepl I didn’t say or think you had those thoughts, I was
speaking of what I have heard people say, I was not aggressive,
yes you did apologise and I did say you had no reason to
apologise, I accept you are a republican and respect this.

Sorry you thought my reply re Charles being evil etc was directed at you

NotTooOld Sat 18-Jul-20 22:25:49

Yes, Camilla for Queen Consort. She's been good for Charles and they are obviously happy together. Best of luck to them I say and I'm not even a Royalist.
Well done to the Queen for personally knighting Sir Tom in the sunshine and best of luck to Beatrice and her husband. Pity her father and the virus messed up her wedding - or maybe she didn't even want all the fuss that her sister and MM had? I wouldn't.

annep1 Sat 18-Jul-20 22:59:48

Anniebach your last remark was directed at me. It was preceded by my name. And it was rude - by my standards anyway. Honestly I would need the patience of a saint! Goodnight!

Anniebach

*Nannytrace*. Anne had an affair with Tim Lawrence, a maid stole love letters and sold them to a newspaper, she like Charles divorced and remarried. Curious now, what has
Edward done ?

Well, they've lasted for 27 years now.

Who could blame her after the way Mark Phillip's behaved?

Callistemon Sat 18-Jul-20 23:19:43

Wandering apostrophe which does not belong to me.

Phillips

annep1 Sun 19-Jul-20 06:42:15

Anniebach "you know everyone?" Was sarcasm which was rude, and you know it.

Calendargirl Sun 19-Jul-20 07:52:06

25Avalon

I consulted the oracle aka dh who is a stickler for grammar and he thought “the queen and myself” was best.

Don’t want to be argumentative, but oh no, not the Queen and myself surely?

Always think when ‘myself’ is used, it nearly always sounds odd.

I will wait to be put right on that though,

25Avalon Sun 19-Jul-20 08:05:49

I would love to tell him he is wrong but then he will probably say I didn’t tell him right! Tried to look it up but wasn’t sure.

annep1 Sun 19-Jul-20 08:56:07

Avalon I have already posted that it should be me and not I. objective pronoun.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jul-20 09:00:31

annelp I did use your name because I was replying to you.
yes asking ‘ you know everyone ‘ was sarcasm, I apologise

Oops. Apologies Avalon It seems you can use either me or myself in this context. You learn something every day ?

annep1 Sun 19-Jul-20 09:05:54

Thank you Anniebach

Chardy Sun 19-Jul-20 09:19:16

Anyone know what happened to Sir Tom's £32million? Where did it go?

Aepgirl Sun 19-Jul-20 09:27:40

Why do 2 lovely occasions -Knighting of Major Tom and the marriage of Princess Beatrice - have to start the sniping about the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall?

I think Camilla has made Prince Charles very happy and is a great support for him, as Prince Philip is to our Queen.

ayokunmi1 Sun 19-Jul-20 09:54:28

Very happy for charles and Camilla ,sad it didnt work out with the mother of his children. For thoes who know the pain of being in a loveless marriage.
The knighthood was well deserved the queen has served with great dignity.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jul-20 10:06:57

And sad Camilla’s marriage to Andrew didn’t work out, 2 marriages failed, 3 from the marriages remarried, sadly one
died.

honeyrose Sun 19-Jul-20 10:06:59

Well done, Sir Tom. A heartwarming event. I love the fact that he - very politely as always - wouldn’t reveal what the Queen had said to him! That made me laugh - he’s so humble and down to earth.

hicaz46 Sun 19-Jul-20 10:09:06

Certainly not ‘myself’. You don’t say myself had a conversation with the Queen you say I had a conversation with the Queen. My pet hate at the moment is the frequent misuse of ‘myself’ listen and you’ll all notice it.

Thecatshatontgemat Sun 19-Jul-20 10:17:03

Sir Tom = Magic!!

Ellianne Sun 19-Jul-20 10:19:15

I've never heard "between you and myself" and would think it is incorrect. All I know is that "between" is a preposition as is "with" and you would never say "he went to the shops with myself." ME.
Sorry, as I said earlier, this shouldn't detract from Sir Tom's achievement. It was just the way the poster said "What did you expect?" somewhat sharply to me a few pages back when I was grammatically right.

annep1 Sun 19-Jul-20 10:26:16

If you read my link you will understand. If myself is used reflexively referring to the word I in rhe same sentence then it is correct.

annep1 Sun 19-Jul-20 10:27:58

I too rhink they make a good couple. But still not a royalist fan....?

GrammarGrandma Sun 19-Jul-20 10:29:50

Annepl - "between" is a preposition, not an adjective, btw.
