Hi all. This is our new thread for those who have been and may still be shielding. We will carry posting regardless of whether or not we are in lockdown.
Jeeves is in the kitchen opening the bubbly.
I have plumped up all the cushions in our new abode and look forward to welcoming old and new friends. Feel free to join in.

Panache Thu 10-Sept-20 12:27:09

So sorry gangsters but I had written quite a lengthy post and by some quirk of mind and hand it looked as though it had posted so having not completed I added the above note..................only to find to my horror it had not posted and now I have deleted it.

Bah humbug big time.............please bear with me!

Panache Thu 10-Sept-20 13:00:43

Delighted hearing of your seaside visit Doodle and truly impressed by your Covid safe bag, nothing quite like "being prepared!!"
Hopefully the day`s weather will be kind and you both return with a beautiful bloom in your cheeks.......and a new spring to your step!!
Indeed you may well even pop your tootsies in the water!!

Whilst feeling especially for you both Grammeretto. It is not nice looking on knowing your loved one is having a tough time, most of these situations you are left unable to offer a helping hand, although judging by what my man tells me...............having you there alongside means so very much.

I am very envious of those lilac specs you have Doodle.
However although I go on endlessly praising our county it has its downfalls too,one being the fact you hardly ever find exactly what you are looking for!!
So no lilac specs for me,in fact I ended up choosing gold frames ...again....but with large lens in an hexagonal shape.
They were my initial first choice, then after searching through a dozen others I ended up with them!
My computing glasses are just plain whilst my man has chosen gunmetal coloured frames.
Ready in 2 weeks.
For some unknown reason the song "We are a couple of swells" springs to mind!!!..............all be it hobbling on walking sticks!
Hope that description pleases Norstat........I wish I was a dab hand with a camera!

Thank you so very much for your understanding of our dilemna regarding our very poor meals.
We have always in the past sent a little note offering special thanks for a really good meal,so on the same vein, have written both jointly and individually complaining bitterly about the very poor, non nutricious meals delivered this past month .
Of course with first one chef, then the second walking off there are no queues to fill these vacancies ........since the firm pays low wages whenever and wherever it can.
Their God is money.
We both need hot nutritional meals.....and decent portions.......sadly the cost is tied up by a water tight contract.
An 85 year old man whom has nursed both his son and wife for years, now recovering from cancer and a stroke himself, has been given to understand he will loose his flat if further complaints are made............this is the shocking calibre of this company.
Please enlighten me as to "Grey Power" Bradfordlass.....we really are at our wits end.
We have no "Meals on Wheels" service or like in our area.

Indeed the Lavender mop is truly eyecatching Bradfordlass............whilst I am enthralled by your ability to write and educate us all!

Feeling for you and the sheer frustration this IVF situation is causing your DD and S in L........ and of course naturally yourself Mamissimo.........Does this Covid situation add to these delays,or simply used as excuses?

This may teach me not to be so long winded ..............but get it down toot sweet!!!!
Anyway it never writes very well the second time around but please believe me.......I have tried!!

Ever hopeful you are enjoying our lovely sunshine Doodle,it has been slow coming but very much worth the wait!!

Have a SAFE and pleasant day Gangsters all.

Grammaretto Thu 10-Sept-20 15:40:33

Hello again gang,
Pleased to read some of your comings and goings.

I am seriously appalled dear Panache by the almost criminal and bullying behaviour of this company. At the least they should be named and shamed!

Too much goes on under the guise of "caring" and "service providing" which is way below acceptable standards.

Locally to us a man had turned his failing hotel into B&B accommodation for homeless. When it was inspected, it failed and he was forced to stop. He was being paid "easy money" to provide a service for these people and he wasn't. It was found to be sub-standard and dirty without any food provided or cooking facilities. Some hotel!,

My DM had meals on wheels for a while. It sounds so homely and attractive. In reality it was a fortnight's frozen dinners on a delivery lorry sent from some distant factory. The meals were as tasteless as you could imagine and indistinguishable from eachother. I believe many hospitals and schools have gone down the same route, sadly.

If only it was better understood how important nutrition is to health and happiness.

My in-laws have a nice set up at present. Their son, DH's brother, shops for them and there are 3 ladies who come in on different days who clean and cook for them. Money is provided by the Scottish Government for their care and they can spend it to pay the carers. It gives them a good degree of independence but without feeling alone.

DH had such a long sleep. He must be refreshed. We drove to pick up the lawnmower but when I got there I found it hadn't been ordered after all! I am definitely missing some screws.

I packed and switched on the kiln ready for the glazing tomorrow. Now I need to check that the glazes are mixed ready.

When will I get back to my lovely knitting! It's just a headband but the wool is from the isle of Uist.
www.uistwool.com/

They sell kits and mine is a kit.

CherryCezzy Thu 10-Sept-20 18:12:42

Sorry that I have been awol. It's been a tough week. I posted on the morning thread and should have at least popped by to say I am thinking of you all, as I am thinking of you all.
I will return very soon I hope but at the present I'm largely otherwise preoccupied. A close friend of my WP has died and my WP has been, still is, quite upset. I don't really feel much like chatting, although I have posted on one thread where a lady is concerned about her grandson who exhibited strange behaviour at school. In the meantime, take care all my lovely gangster friends ❤️

Mamissimo Thu 10-Sept-20 21:48:00

cherry a hard time for you. Good to know you're hanging in there. Be kind to yourselves and we'll hear from you soon. ?

Today/we took both DGC to feed the ducks. Now I remember hurling bread at my feet in the rough direction of a duck as a child but they were supplied with oats. Now getting a toddler to throw a handful of oats with any accuracy was a challenge too far.....I was showing them how to do it....and looked down and my feet were liberally sprinkled. Mr M says I have failed basic child development level 1.

Whilst I understand the new 'rule of 6' it means that our family holiday in October looks like a no no. We've rented a huge house in north Devon for all 10 of us and all the family dogs. I'm hoping they will roll it over to next year for us but it's a big disappointment. I think I'll have to cancel the family get together for my 65th too....or have 2 events ?

I've just booked tickets to Wisley for next week - now that the schools are back more outings are available to crumblies like us.

In other infuriating news my DD received in the post today three forms for different medical agencies ordering tests prior to IVF.....all 3 should have been sent to the agencies so my SiL is going to drive round and deliver them all tomorrow. This further buggeration has been added to her Daily Journal in which she's recording everything that's happening. We have it on very good authority that this is essential in the case of the hospital group she has to use as they are holding a huge inquiry into the failings of their care.

Tomorrow we will have to scrub the path through the vegetable garden because the sparrows have been eating blackberries and everything is covered in purple bird poo bombs. It will make Mr M very happy because he loves --having something to moan about--using his pressure washer.

Sleep tight!

Doodle Thu 10-Sept-20 21:59:53

My what a busy lot you’ve been.
I hope you’ve been good. Jeeves will give me a full report later.
NFK I had a lovely day thank you. Weather was really good and the sea beautiful. You are right the sound of the sea is wonderful.
Bradfordlass yet more interesting facts. It’s good to hear about other places and people. The Maori sound a very spiritual people.
I’m glad you enjoyed your swim. You certainly had a good workout ?
Okarito looks lovely. Only 30 people. Must be peaceful there.
Sounds to me as though you have been a hard worker all your life. I’m not sure I would class the cold research place as a holiday but if it gave you a break then I’m glad you had the chance.

BradfordLass73 Thu 10-Sept-20 22:03:25

Cherry Sad news for your poor WP. Don't worry, we'll be here when you feel up to it. Rest assured that even when you're not, we're still thinking and caring about you.

Panache here are some links you can click on: they'll give you advice. I'm afraid I inadvertently misled you with Grey Power (with whom I worked briefly) they no longer exist.

However, AgeCymru does and there are many church organisations who have specialised branches for the welfare of elders. Salvation Army are just one.

If you had a lot of help, would you move?
You should not be treated like this.
Parasites who prey on elders too sick, afraid or tired to protest, should be shot held to account.

If you felt it would lead to recriminations (which stops many older people speaking up) message me privately and I'll contact people, without naming anyone there, and ask for this company to be investigated. The fact that 2 chefs have walked out should get someone interested.

AgeCymru* : www.charitychoice.co.uk/age-concern-gwent-9045
AgeUK: www.ageuk.org.uk

I'm to have a very welcome visit from my family tomorrow. They're coming for lunch....and bringing all the food with them smile. I'll make sugar-free, gluten-free desserts.
Although my son visits regularly, I haven't seen my dil or grandson (except briefly, in a restaurant, in May) since January. So a meal together will be wonderful.

Doodle Thu 10-Sept-20 22:24:56

Panache it’s such a pain when your post vanishes isn’t it.
As I mentioned, we had a lovely day. Beautiful sunshine and so warm. Long walk along the sea front. I didn’t dabble my toes (but I was tempted ?)
Sorry you didn’t get your lilac specs but the hexagonal gold ones sound very nice. Hope you are both happy with them when you get them. I am truly shocked that someone has been threatened with losing their home because of their complaints about the standard of food. That is outrageous. I bet the poor chap doesn’t have any younger family members to stand up to these people.
Grammaretto I agree with you. So many people are taking money to provide a service that is lacking in so many ways.
Your in laws seem to have a much better arrangement. Things are so different across the country.
Glad MrG had a good sleep. Oh dear, no lawnmower. Hope it wasn’t needed urgently.
Do you have another class tomorrow? I wonder what everyone will make. ? Good luck with the knitting.
Cherry how nice of you to pop in here. We love to know how you are but understand it’s not always possible to post everywhere. I am so sorry about your WPs friend. Good he has you to talk to. I won’t mention to anyone on this thread that you went shopping in your slippers. Your secret is safe with me ?
Mamissimo oats aren’t throwable. ?. We have oats for breakfast every day and they are so light, no mater how careful I am there are always a few on the floor and worktop.
Perhaps you should turn them into porridge dumplings for your DGC to throw, ?
This new rule of 6 will cause problems for many families. Sorry you will have to cancel your planned family get together.
Hope you enjoy Wisley. I went there on a school trip when I was 14. It was lovely.
Your poor DD. All this extra hassle will not be helping. Doesn’t sound as though things are being handled very well.
Good luck with de pooing the path.?
I have added a picture from our trip today. Lovely to see the sea again. ?. Sleep well all.

Missedout Thu 10-Sept-20 23:42:33

Hello Gangsters, I've been quiet lately, there hasn't been much to say. I haven't been exercising, my gum is still sore and the dentist told me (although I don't usually need telling) to put my feet up for a few days.

Today I felt like doing a bit more. I had a hair appointment (in the town 10 miles away) but found I was worried about a stupid thing like where I was going to park and how I was going to pay. We have run out of cash in the house and I'm one of those pathetic/virtuous people who feel uncomfortable parking at a supermarket if I'm not planning to go in and buy anything (I'm not ready for supermarket shopping yet). I've relied on DH to take care of these things lately.

I realise now how much isolation has dented my self confidence. I really enjoyed the drive on my own and, for the first time, used the PayByPhone app to park in the public car park. I didn't even have to get out of the car to get a ticket from the machine (there was a queue), I just paid on my phone and walked away. Social distancing in the town was not easy but I didn't feel particularly threatened. I also paid my hairdresser using my phone. No need to use the PIN pad.

I didn't go into any shops though. Once home, I walked to the chemist in my local village to pick up my prescription. I went when the schools were turning out - that was a mistake, I was surrounded by hoards of children. I scurried home as fast as possible, washed my hands and changed my clothes (I would have changed into my 'rough' gear anyway).

Next week DH and I have eye tests too. I'm hoping there will be 'no change' to our eyesight.

I am also angry that you and your fellow residents are being treated so badly, Panache. You and your DH should be enjoying good quality food. I don't know what to say. Do you have a residents' committee that could work together?

BradfordLass, I am so envious of you having a swim. I can't remember when I last did that. With a damaged immune system, I think swimming pool changing rooms and atmosphere are just too much of a risk for me.

Grammaretto, I have some knitting to complete, a jumper, back and sleeves are complete and I'm halfway up the neck for the front. It is a cosy, winter sweater (for last winter). Must try harder.

NfkDumpling, it sounds as if you were in my neck of the woods with your camper van. I'm envious but we are back on the narrowboat again soon.

Oh gosh, you have been busy while I have been typing this. Suddenly, there seems to have been a flurry of posts!

Vanishing posts are a real pain, aren't they? I type my posts in a notes app, then copy and paste them into GN. One of the reasons you lose posts is when switching between pages on the GN web page. I can go back and see what other posters have written and change things accordingly. Closing a notes app saves it automatically so you don't lose it easily.

Cherry, I'm sorry about your WP's sadness. You are there for your WP, that's what counts.

Mamissimo, our new patio is covered with chicken poo (next doors' hens are still visiting despite the dog and cat trauma to one of them). What is worse, the hens are pecking the new (resin) pointing. That should produce interesting eggs!

Doodle, I don't think you should be encouraging Mamissimo to make porridge dumplings for her DGC to throw at ducks. It could end up with fatalities. (Does anyone remember the 'duck' scene in the 'About a Boy' movie?)

Good night all.

Grammaretto Fri 11-Sept-20 09:40:07

A quick good morning to you all. A virtual hug for Missedout as you were decidedly down but what a brilliant comeback. I forgot you are a whizz at IT. (is that what it's called) paying by phone etc.

Sorry about your WP's friend Cherry. It is sad.
We've been to the nurse this morning to have his bloods done. She thought MrG was looking a bit frail today. His trousers were falling down, he's so thin. I just know he is so much better than he was on Tuesday!

I am glad you had a day at the seaside Doodle and thanks for the photo.

I will be back later. Too much to do today.

Nortsat Fri 11-Sept-20 09:41:15

Good morning gangsters, I hope everyone had a decent nights sleep. I have my coffee and am sitting comfortably (thank you Doodle), so let’s begin ...

Missedout, I expect we can all empathise with your dented self confidence, at the moment. Well done on using the online parking system. Once you’re registered in the system it’s really straightforward I think.
Cherry, so sorry your WP is having a difficult time. We will look forward to hearing from you when you’re ready. ?
Doodle, what a lovely photograph, so glad you had such a lovely day.
Mammissimo, what a shame your family holiday in north Devon is unlikely to happen. I read that many holiday companies, B&B owners and hoteliers were hoping for a much needed autumn/winter boost for their business and that is all now in jeopardy.
Oh, the purple poo bombs... I sympathise. One day last autumn we parked our car under one of the street trees outside our house. In the morning it was absolutely covered (and I do mean covered) in purple poo bombs. We drove straight to the car wash before work and the size and quantity of the poo bombs were such, that people were stopping in the street and staring at our car, as we passed.
Grammaretto, the Uist Wool Company is a lovely website and their kits and knitwear look really gorgeous. Will we see a photo of you wearing the headband, once it’s completed? Hope so ...
Panache your gold frame glasses sound like a very good alternative to purple. You have fixed that song ‘We’re a couple of swells’ ... in my head. It could be applied to me too ... tottering along with my stick.
Bradfordlass thank you very much for the information about the Tino Rangatiratanga flag. Its very interesting and it’s pleasing that it is being flown more frequently.
Bone People I am so glad to know that the novel has been recognised and is more appreciated. I loved it, it’s one of my favourites. Some of the imagery of her writing (not the violent images) stayed with me for a long time.
It was kind of you to show me where Keri Hulme lives, I can picture her there.

It was our 6th wedding anniversary yesterday, we have been together 44 years in total, but got married 6 years ago, after I was ill.
I hadn’t ever really wanted to be married, as a feminist I didn’t see the need, but illness changed that, making it the sensible thing to do, from the legal/financial point of view.
At the Registry Office we were asked ‘Would you like any special music’, I explained no we wouldn’t be having any music. ‘Well you can take photographs in the main hall’, they told us. No, I explained, we won’t be taking any photographs. ‘We present the rings on a velvet cushion’ they said, so we had to explain there would be no rings.
I think they thought I was a bit difficult.
I would have preferred not to do it at all ... but can see that it made legal/financial sense.
Nevertheless we had a bottle of champagne yesterday and toasted our lives together...

Have a good day, gangsters and apologies to anyone I have overlooked. ☀️

BradfordLass73 Fri 11-Sept-20 10:15:31

Nortsat wine wine I entirely agree with you - champage and love is all that's needed.

Too tired to write more - but.... I shall return!! grin

Doodle Fri 11-Sept-20 13:15:04

Missedout hello again. Nice to hear from you.
Hope you did rest as you were told. Sorry your gum is still sore.
I can understand your nervousness going out but you did it! Bet you feel better for having your hair done. Yes, now the children are back at school we need to time our walks a bit better.
Hope you get your jumper for last winter finished for this winter ?
blush oh yes I do remember the scene in About a boy. Oops
Grammaretto MrG has been through a really tough time. I’m glad that you feel he’s a bit better though.
Nortsat congratulations to you both on your WA and your birthday. Hope you had a lovely day.
I wish I could have seen your car with it’s purple poobombs ?
I can just visualise you during around and people pointing and staring.
My cousin and her partner were together for 30 years and only got married because when she was taken seriously ill and in hospital, he was not allowed to have any say in her care or visit her in ICU as he was not her next of kin. Like you, they married to make things easier for them.
Hope your WP is ok Cherry sad time for him.
Take care all.

Doodle Fri 11-Sept-20 13:17:27

Nortsat sorry I was wishing another GNetter happy anniversary and birthday on another thread. When I typed the message about your WA I added and birthday by mistake.
I still hope you had a good day and will wish you happy birthday when the time comes ?

Doodle Fri 11-Sept-20 13:18:16

Bradfordlass we most certainly hope you will return ?
Have a good rest ?

NfkDumpling Fri 11-Sept-20 13:43:48

Oh Cherry I hope things look better for you both before too long. Keep yew a troshin t'gether, tha'll cum roight.

Missedout my dentist told me when I had a big molar out that I may well feel down and a bit poorly for a few days as having a tooth out can cause shock. Only relieved by the loss of pain!

I hope you can re-arrange your family holiday Mammissimo. It can be a challenge to co-ordinate. I've been trying to get our lot together for a year or two but it seems doomed. There's always something - last time it was half term holidays being a week different.

We've just cancelled our bird watching trip to the Scilly Isles next week. Every care and precaution has been taken, the group divided into two groups of six, the guest house has re-organised really well and all looks good, but too many ferries and having to eat out each evening seemed just too, well, dangerous! We booked our trip in the camperbubble last week as we expected the birding tour to be cancelled, but all looked well with Covid levels declining when Naturetrek wanted the balance so we ended up with two holidays close together. I'm glad we went last week, we so nearly didn't! Hopefully they'll be able to fill our places and we may get some money back.

Doodle Fri 11-Sept-20 22:08:24

I’m beginning to wonder if I need new glasses. I keep missing peoples posts.
Nfk I read yours about being away last week in your camper bubble and thought, I don’t remember that. Sure enough when I go back a page, there is your post and I hadn’t read it before. So sorry. I don’t mean to ignore anyone. I keep missing things.
So tell me please what is a camper bubble. I see your DH has come round to the idea so assume he was not too keen to begin with. Is it like a camper van? You visited Longleat and Old Sarum both places we have enjoyed before. I love Salisbury especially the Cathedral and surrounding area. We have been there many times. We enjoyed exploring Old Sarum too. Have you ever read the book Sarum. It’s a mighty tome but a wonderful read.
Dear friends I am very tired tonight. All that fresh air yesterday. I hope you all have a peaceful night.
Jeeves is ready and waiting to provide your every desire (Bradfordlass behave yourself ?). Sleep well.

Nortsat Fri 11-Sept-20 22:37:57

Doodle ... are we sure we want Jeeves to address our ‘every desire’?
I might just make do with the cocoa ...
Sleep well, all. ?

BradfordLass73 Sat 12-Sept-20 03:53:20

Nortsat sounds as if you parked your car beneath a 'roosting tree'. It's a good job you were able to go to a carwash so quickly; that stuff is deadly if left on, the acid corrodes.

What a lovely photo Doodle that glimpse of the sea looks so peaceful and calm. Glad you had such a lovely day, with more coming up by the sounds of it smile Your DH must be feeling a bit better.

Missedout No indeed, don't risk it, pools are not the cleanest places, despite the consant ministrations of the staff.
I wear Aqua-shoes, partly because I can't walk anywhere without pain, not even on carpet, in bare feet,
I also wear them to avoid fungal infection.
And that, after decades of walking in bare feet, summer and winter, indoors and out too. sad I know it sounds crazy but there's something exhilerating about walking barefoot in rain and snow...and it's actually much cleaner when you come home and step into a bowl of Dettolly water, rather than tread all that muck into your carpet.

Because I use a PC, I always right click and open up a new tab if I want to move to another GN page (or any extra webpage. ) That way, your original one, with your message, stays open but I don't know how that works on other devices.
I've also found it useful, as spammers get ever more canny at trying to fool you, to hover the cursor over their name (no need to open the email) and that comes up with the real address, not the one they're trying to fool you with.

Doodle you're tiring yourself out trying to respond to everyone. It's very sweet of you but please do look after your health.

Glad to hear your DH is a little better Grammaretto but the weight loss is sad. I don't wonder he doesn't feel like eating after all ahe's been through. You too, it must be hard seeing him so fragile.

My family popped over today bringing smoked, Pulled Pork, fresh out of the smoker this morning. Coleslaw, smoky BBQ sauce, all home made was the main course and I'd made a selection of sugar free treats for afters.

Childrens' Party fare really but my grandson loved Chocolate cornflake crackles, Rice Krispie Marshmallow fingers and Blitz Balls. These last went down well with everyone.

My dil is blooming and my son's smile goes from ear to ear. I'm so happy for him and my dgs will make a splendid big brother. smile So it was a grand, happy time in my house today.

Wishing all of you the same, though I know, for some that may be hard right now.
Kia kaha - be strong.

I never knew, until today, that the word 'canter' is actually short for 'Canterbury Pace' - the speed at which pilgrims often travelled, although it was somewhat slower than a horse's canter these days.

Mamissimo Sat 12-Sept-20 08:04:14

Bradfordlass you had me at Blitz Balls so I went a googling....and discovered orange and neon coloured plastic hurling weapons.....?

Bliss Balls however are a revelation! Thank you for bringing those into my life. It instantly brought back to mind a visit to the wholesale date market in Abu Dhabi. I think I sampled every kind of date in every kind of size and with every kind of stuffing. Total date fanciers heaven! But I wasn't very well later. ☹️?

I spent most of yesterday looking for a replacement holiday for Mr M and myself and I was horrified at the prices that some people are charging in the UK for cottage rentals. I understand that they lost a lot of income earlier in the year but the level of inflation was mind blowing and more than naughty.

A property we rented in February for £750 wanted £1200 for November....

Interestingly I didn't find the same inflation in hotel prices so today we will think again. I think we are also very concerned by the covidiot shenanigans and not totally enthusiastic. We may decide to wait till next year.

In other musings....I have a long list of particular plants to buy so I went to my favourite garden centre to see if they could supply any.....and in a nutshell....No! But I could have bought a poncho, a set of Christmas decorations and a personalised unicorn. Today I shall start ordering direct from nurseries.

It's a funny old world.

Grammaretto Sat 12-Sept-20 10:02:27

Hello gangsters,
Rather you than me looking for a holiday Mamissimo
I may go to potfest, if it isn't cancelled.
potfest.co.uk/scotland
Although the restrictions keep changing and what with DH's health and our DC's disapproval I may stay home. Luckily we have a home.
I shudder to think of the refugees in Lesbos and other places too.

Doodle I agree you are wonderful the way you address all the messages on here, but I am sure none of us mind if we are missedout. unless missedout does grin

Our local garden centre is similar. Mamissimo They are retail outlets and not nurseries. I have ordered a quince tree but it won't arrive until November.

Oh a funny thing. Ancestry have updated their ethnicity results and I am now "officially" 2% Welsh!!
It's weird though and causing plenty of consternation to people on social media.

The image of your happy family gathering Bradfordlass has given me a broad smile too!

Doodle Sat 12-Sept-20 13:29:27

Bradfordlass I can’t believe that I have missed something so simple for so long. It has never occurred to me to open a second Gransnet on another tab ?. I have been either keeping notes or struggling to remember what was written when all along I could have had another copy on a different tab. Thank you so much for that useful tip. ?
We did enjoy our day out thank you. I love the sea.
DH has painful feet too. He can’t walk on anything in bare feet. You must be a hardy soul to have gone out barefoot in winter.
What a lovely family day you had. Well I know and love chocolate cornflake crackles and rice Krispy marshmallows but what are Blitz bombs ? not heard of those.
Isn’t it lovely to see our children happy. The new baby will be a welcome addition for all the family. Is it November the baby is due?
Mamissimo you are right about high cost of renting somewhere in this country now. I suppose people will charge what they can get away with. Supply and demand as they say.
The new rule of six is going to cause further disruption to holiday and party plans but with the infection rate growing I’m not sure what else can be done. We have seen total disregard for social distancing recently. Local parks have been the setting for huge groups of families picking together. I understand it is lovely to meet up but then that means those of us who have been following the rules are missing out again.
? ooh go on, tell me you bought a personalised unicorn. I know what you mean about garden centres. They have become a second home for all sorts of small shops that can’t afford their own premises. Sorry you didn’t get your plants.
Grammaretto I thought for a minute you were being very naughty and going to a dope smoking festival. ?. Having followed the link, I realise now that of course it is pottery. Looks interesting.
2% Welsh. That must mean we are related then ?
I am so grateful people take the time to post here and I do like to make mention of everyone. It’s so nice to hear from you all.
Have a good day everyone. I’m off to make some brownies for the family.

Mamissimo Sat 12-Sept-20 13:36:34

Grammaretto the Ancestry update is hilarious.....I am Irish, my DH is Cornish......I am a member of the Society of Genealogists and have researched our trees for many years. The update makes him more Irish than me, me more Scottish than Irish....and our son 10% Swedish and 7% Iberian. Now we both remember his creation because it was a bit memorable so he isn't the milkman's!

I'm going off the holiday idea the more I look. I think I'll plant a few more expensive larger shrubs instead!

Off to get more Vit D while it's in plentiful supply!

Doodle Sat 12-Sept-20 18:47:25

Mamissimo I am having a laugh at myself. Dyslexia strikes again. I was reading your post about Ancestry and when I got to the bit where you said researched trees I thought you were going to say you were related to an Ash or Poplar or something. After re reading I now realise you meant family trees. My mind plays tricks on me at times.?
Hope you enjoy choosing your shrubs. You could get one to represent all the places you hoped to visit. ?

BradfordLass73 Sun 13-Sept-20 02:57:18

Blitz Balls this is the commercial version of the high-nutrition favourite. I make my own usually but was given a packet of Edmonds which I made up yesterday.
I'm hoping there was no 'Abu Dhabi effect' afterwards. smile

If anyone wants a recipe, let me know. Bliss Balls are so quick and easy to make.

Having read about huge increases in rental prices, I looked at lower-end prices on Book-a-Bach here; they're exactly the same.
In fact, I've noticed many price decreases across the board. Some companies have reduced or abolished shipping charges. Not sure how long that will last but it's certainly generated a lot more online sales.

I hope you get to Potfest Grammaretto it looks as if the organisers are doing all they can to help people stay safe.
So 2% of you is Welsh......would that be your little finger? smile

I've walked barefoot all my life until about 10 years ago when the cushioing on my soles seemed to disappear and walking on bones is not advised.
Of course I wore shoes/sandals when required but just shopping or casual socialising I didn't bother.

I never have liked the way shoes brought dirt (and worse) into the house & carpets; washing feet is cleaner. Now, I leave my shoes in the porch, as does everyone else.

Doodle you're welcome to the computer tip. smile and you had me laughing with your idea Mamissimo was related to a tree (was that you barking up the wrong one?)

"This branch of our family has its roots in Norway, they're very spruce but we don't talk about the Crack Willows and their troubled daughter Purging Buckthorn." grin

November 18th is Baby Day but my heart aches now for the poor lassie fighting for her IVF - I do hope things change for the better.

I confess I was holding back tears a lot of the time the family were here. Seeing my son so happy after all he's been through, is truly wonderful.

I heard a group of women talking on Radio 4, all saying how much more easily they cried now they are in their later years. Does anyone here find that too?

A personalised unicorn? Does that mean I could get a fat one with green and lilac hair? grin

Mamissimo with the help of some very, very good-hearted people on various genealogy sites, I've gleaned a lot of information on my kin.
I'd love to do more; it's a never-ending, fascinating web isn't it?
I found a long-lost cousin, with whom I am now in regular touch, and that my granddad was a twin!
I suppose I'm so interested because our family (apart from said cousin in Cumbria) consists of just me and 2 sons. It's incredible thinking about how people lived way back in the past.

I do hope Cherry, Panache and all our other friends are staying safe and well. flowers
