I've just downloaded it. Let's hope enough people do the same to try and get the virus back under control.

TrendyNannie6 Thu 24-Sept-20 17:09:29

Did mine this afternoon I’m in medium risk area

craftyone Thu 24-Sept-20 17:11:45

Trendynannie have you clicked on the word medium, its a bit scary, brings it home about how small an island we are.

NannyG123 Thu 24-Sept-20 17:15:36

I've downloaded it.

Worcester4lady Thu 24-Sept-20 18:18:37

I've downloaded it, so far so good. I was also given a coronavirus test by my council who were checking the area randomly. Luckily my test was negative.

Working for me on an iPhone 6S

Not sure about the app though. ArcGis app shows 0-2 cases in my area. NHS app shows we are in a medium risk area?‍♀️How big is an “area”. I am fed up with so much conflicting information and not actually getting the information I actually want.

I remember when Eat Out to Help Out started and some posters made it sound as though you were being totally unreasonable and unpatriotic for not so doing.

Eat Out to Help Out is partly responsible for where are are now.

Unless everybody decided to stay under house isolation for the next year of so, (provided you still have a home to live in, and are not evicted as not paying rent/mortgage), whenever we go out more, infection rates will rise. Inevitable!!!!

Still less deaths each day than from Flu, and we are not yet in the flu season!!!!

Until such time as a vaccine is developed (if ever), then this virus, like so many other illnesses, will be around, and we need to learn to live with it.

The real tragedies and deaths from this last six months and the next has yet to unfold - the result of the thousands of deaths from illnesses not being treated, from the suicides due to breakdowns of relationships due to economical collapse, to serious depression and other mental illnesses increasing.

A panicked and frightened community is one that is much easier to control. Just that we are being panicked and frightened about the wrong things.

Luckygirl Fri 25-Sept-20 09:32:26

Panicked a frightened? - nope! Just using common sense.

I am astounded by the way folk who are not virologists or epidemiologists feel free to pronounce on something in which they have no expertise. They will be advising brain surgeons and rocket scientists next!

TrendyNannie6 - I think the classifications (e.g. medium) are taking into account what is going on in adjoining counties, as there is a likelihood of incoming spread from these.

NotSpaghetti Fri 25-Sept-20 09:37:56

I heard yesterday that it can pick up people in rooms next door. This means hotels, workplaces, people living in neighbouring flats/houses.

Also, you have to leave bluetooth on. Are there risks associated with that do you know?

craftyone Fri 25-Sept-20 09:44:23

I have experience and believe me, we have almost reached the point of no return. Frightened and panicked, not me at all, just caring for others in the community who are vulnerable and our NHS people who will be thrown into danger and the greatest stress

Please remember that this virus is genetically altered to be very easily transmitted and to have maximum impact with very long term damage to even the young ones who may not show symptoms. It is not at all a simple virus and needs complex measures to keep it under control. We all should be helping, it is not down to someone else but us as individuals

NotSpaghetti Fri 25-Sept-20 09:47:26

Crafty - mmmn, others who could and don`t are purely and simply selfish. - really?

craftyone Fri 25-Sept-20 09:50:49

re medium, in my particular case, the first half of my postcode includes potantial hotspots and there are 2 between 10 and 20 miles away. My little area with almost zero positives is therefore at risk from the spreading out from these 2 areas, which are really no distance away. Hence I am medium and it was a wake up call, which is one of the objectives of the app, to shake people up and make them less complacent and more careful

Alegrias Fri 25-Sept-20 09:51:09

If you're worried about it picking up people next door, turn it off when you're in those circumstances. e.g., at home, at work or in a hotel room. You're in control.

Theres no risk with leaving Bluetooth on all the time.

NotSpaghetti Fri 25-Sept-20 10:03:42

Good idea Alegruas. Yes, I discussed this last night with my husband and would do that. Was thinking you would have to be quite "alert" to not get false positives.

Dorsetcupcake61 Fri 25-Sept-20 10:42:53

I turn off APP when indoors,I dont know if bluetooth drains battery?
I too was a little surprised to see my area as medium risk. We have always been amongst low end. I also have the Zoe Covid app which relies on people self reporting. That has seen a big increase in cases in my council although still lower than others.
A cynical part of me has wondered if all postcodes are automatically set at medium or high risk?. Anyone out there low risk? It does seem once you register you cant check other postcodes.
With the current problems with accessing testing and results I'm not sure an accurate picture is available so it may be wise to be cautious, as I'm sure most people are.

It is NOT true that Covid-19 is less deadly than flu.

Public Health England estimates that on average 17,000 people have died from the flu in England annually between 2014/15 and 2018/19. However, the yearly deaths vary widely from a high of 28,330 in 2014/15 to a low of 1,692 in 2018/19.

In the six months since March, over 40,000 people have died from Covid-19 - and that's almost certainly an underestimate.

We only have low death rates at the moment because the most vulnerable have been shielded and there have been mitigating measures.

If Covid-19 is left to its own devices in the community, it will cause more deaths and debilitating after-effects, including depression and financial problems for those left behind.

"Learning to live" with it means accepting deaths.

Please stop peddling your dangerous, inaccurate myths.

BlueBelle Fri 25-Sept-20 12:10:46

Right now can someone explain to me it’s use
You get told if you ve been near someone who has tested positive for Corona then it is your choice whether you self isolate or get a test or not have I got this right that it’s not compulsory to go into quarantine? maybe I ve got it wrong
I m happy to be corrected
But if I m right what is the point of having it on your phone ?

I’m presuming the area is the post code one.
I’ve tried other post codes around Cornwall and can’t find a low risk area! I’ve come up with medium risk. I presume because the county had a blip with R when it touched 1 ages ago

Low areas do exist. We have a friend mid Wales (Machynlleth) in one.

Delete the app. Load it again. It lets you register again. I tried a few pist

WOODMOUSE49 Fri 25-Sept-20 13:16:01

??. I hate using mobile for comments. I’m not ‘pist’. Sorry for my last post. This is what it should be ...

I tried other post codes I thought might be low and found one.

growstuff Fri 25-Sept-20 13:48:03

Apparently, there are no low risk areas in England:

Well I reckon it will be a good percentage of the population that can't down the app. Just doing a quick think around the people I know at least half won't be able to do it as the phone is to old. Still if it works for some it will help.

I don’t think so.....maybe within the older generation there will be some, but most people have an up to date smart phone these days.

My area is medium risk apparently.

Surprising....I thought Devon and Cornwall would fall into that category.
