Christmas lockdown?

Seeing how things have changed in the last week, I can't see how a Christmas lockdown can be avoided if as a country we are to avoid a huge spike in cases. Students home, grandparents in the mix, cold weather, lots of people from mixed houses together - seems like a perfect storm. I personally will now prepare for plan B, as had hoped that we could see different families in different days. In my heart of hearts I can't see this happening. Xmas pud for 2 it is.

Callistemon

That looked a bit like a page from an old Cannon gas cookery book!

Delias complete cookery book - much loved and used with stains, marks, bits of dried up ingredients throughout.

Callistemon Tue 20-Oct-20 16:21:00

I may have that somewhere.
My Mum used a ginger parkin recipe from the Cannon cookery book, long since thrown out.

Hi all. Just to say I was not being competitive about who is more stressed, sad, lonely etc I know in many ways I am lucky. I was merely replying to a post about plans for a Christmas celebration which, in my view, were irresponsible. And in fact vis a vis the pandemic we have all walked a mile in the shoes !

Thanks WinterWhite, I didn't mean for it to be provocative, I meant it as the truth. X

Marydoll Tue 20-Oct-20 16:23:58

In fact worn out more than one pair of shoes, Lucca! ?

That’s the point FH. It’s the truth that you are planning a celebration which is against all guidelines. and you must realise that you shouldn’t be, however hard that thought is.

Lucca Kalu Calli and many more on here with DC and DGC in Australia. Shall we charter a jet and all go over together when this is over? smilewineflowers

Lucca Tue 20-Oct-20 16:49:02

Yup. I’m in. Or bring them all over here. Think what fun they’d have on the plane!

BlueSky Tue 20-Oct-20 16:57:33

Oh yes Lucca perhaps them being younger would be better but I wouldn’t like to think I’ll never visit again! ???

kittylester Tue 20-Oct-20 17:00:33

I think this year there is a definite year for a gn panto and party! We had one years ago and we had an actual Carol singalong - not virtual!!

MawB2 Tue 20-Oct-20 17:06:21

Oh gosh, sorry Lucca I really wasn’t getting at you, please don’t think that for a minute.
The trouble with all of us being in different variations of the same boat is that sometimes we can think “I feel that way too, only it’s even worse in my case ” We all have our particular worries and sorrow especially at a time of year which means so much to us as mums and Grans.
I may envy some whose families live near enough to see them but I realise how lucky I am that we are in the same country - let alone continent! ?????

Yes, good idea! We could ask permission to go now ( family) and then isolate for 14 days first. I think, though, the plane will have to do some hops around Australia as well.

Just drop me off in Brisbane please. I so need a cuddle from DD.

kittylester Tue 20-Oct-20 17:28:50

I think what maw says is right - we all have our own sadness at this time.

My sadness is that poor DS1 is lumbered with coming to us on Christmas day. And, who wants to spend Christmas Day with their aged parents!

Bellanonna Tue 20-Oct-20 17:41:58

Oh, come on , Kitty, hardly “lumbered”. He’s one of the lucky ones and I bet he’s looking forward to it.

Lucca ?. Does your name, incidentally, have any connection with that beautiful Tuscan city? One of my favourite places!

Bellanonna Tue 20-Oct-20 17:45:39

Thanks, Callistemon, I like the sound of that lemony tea but I don’t think it would quite hit the spot at the moment. A couple of the posts on here have rather worried me! ☹️

Any chance of an onward flight to Christchurch please?

Callistemon Tue 20-Oct-20 17:52:30

G&T then, Bellanonna?

Ellianne Tue 20-Oct-20 17:52:56

Lucca flowers

BlueSky Tue 20-Oct-20 18:00:19

Of course Ellianne you might have to pay a little supplement! smile flowers

Charleygirl5 Tue 20-Oct-20 18:16:25

At least it would be warmer in Australia.

Franbern Tue 20-Oct-20 18:41:19

Everybody so keen to have a go at FlyingHxndles re arrangements for Christmas and all saying that she is breaking the law. Not sure what crystal balls they are all using. Who knows what the rules, laws and recommendations will be at end of December. At present they seem to change every few days or so. So, if it will keep her happy making those arrangements and looking forward to them (if that helps her mental health), then let her. Could well be permisseable when the time comes, if it is not, that is the time for her to do a re-thing.

Franbern Tue 20-Oct-20 18:41:51

re-think!!!!

suziewoozie Tue 20-Oct-20 18:44:24

Fran why are you making excuses for her - she did not qualify what she said about her plans at all in terms of what the law would be at the time. ??

kittylester Tue 20-Oct-20 18:57:08

Bellanonna, DS1 isn't really looking forward to it, I bet. He isn't particularly lucky!

He is divorced and disabled and lives on his own. He said the other day that he hadn't been touch by another person since March. He has a brother, 3 sisters and a lot of friends but is not able to spend Christmas with any of them due to travelling and numbers - I doubt we are quite the same!
