Wales in Lockdown

I agree with Nanny27 I live in Wales they tell us to support our local community in which clothes shops card shops and library’s closed so why should Tescos and Asda’s have the monopoly they made plenty during the 3 months lockdown when our local shops were closed ! and now once again our local shops have to close for 17 days with the fear they may never reopen.

What is it with people that they can’t go that amount of time without buying clothes cards and books it’s obvious they rather see our local shops and library’s close for good ?

Am I the only one that doesn't understand the problem? We're only in lockdown for 2 weeks and for the last 3 we've seen this coming, so if you needed a birthday card, you've had plenty of time to buy one. All that's happening is that the playing field is being evened out. Small shops that store non essentials are closed, so for fairness large supermarkets that make millions are not allowed to sell non essentials for 2 weeks only!!

It was just an illustration of what many people think are the ill-thought out rules in Wales.

Anglesey has very low infection rates. Our economy is almost totally reliant on tourism. We lost March to July. Small businesses were just getting back on their feet having spent a fortune to make themselves compliant. We all wear masks, we try to support our communities now that the tourists have gone and Mark Drakeford decides to lockdown everywhere. This makes no sense.
As far as not buying cards or kettles in Tesco out of fairness to small business, ludicrous. If I need a card or a kettle I’ll have to go on line so the money that would have gone in to an Anglesey supermarket has now gone elsewhere. That affects local jobs. It might be only 17 days but people could in that time decide online shopping is easier and never come back to the high street.
Mark Drakeford is a silly man. He should have given localised lockdowns a chance to see if it worked before shutting down the whole economy.
I’m so frustrated at the stupidity.

We will never know what Carwyn would have done but labour do seem to be in favour of total lockdown or brake.
I suppose none of us know what will work best but personally I’d rather try the gentler measures before going to the extremes.

It may well be the final nail in the coffin for small local shops and businesses and tourist attractions in places like the Forest of Dean rely on local visitors during thisg half term.
They have taken all precautions, spent hundreds if not thousands of pounds on safeguarding but half term will see no visitors from safe areas over the border.

Of course, places with high rates of COVID should continue in lockdown until their numbers reduced and control gained.

Surely non essential shopping is browsing for a new sofa or computer.....these big wigs need to shop for common sense! Now that is essential!

No chance Willitwork, that was completely sold out a couple of years ago.

Is a laptop essential or non-essential, that is the question.
Whether 'tis for games or for schoolwork should answer that conundrum.

For those who work from home, it is an essential item. If mine went kaput, I'd be out of a job.

A simple solution if the kettle packs up, boil water in a saucepan on the stove for a cuppa.

And I can use the steam from the pan of boiling water to generate energy to power up my laptop! Genius! Why didn't I think of that!

Can see an increase in burns and scalding accidents with people heating water in saucepans and therefore an increase in people needing A&E. Obviously Health and Safety has been overlooked!

A hot drink can be made in a microwave if need be.

I don’t think alcohol and tobacco are essential. People won’t die if they don’t have them.

Some people just like to be difficult! Of course you can boil water in a small pan.

I’m sure if such ‘non essential items’ had been allowed in supermarkets, people would have said it wasn’t fair to retail shops which had to close. But looks as if they are going to have a rethink on this matter anyway.

Its for two weeks, not a lifetime. It will be interesting to compare when the time is up how well Wales has done against Boris and his stupid way of dealing with it. My guess is Wales will have gone done a whole load and England will still be struggling.

That may be the case Barmey if people haven’t stuck to the rules in England, but at the same time...if Wales goes back into tier 1/2 who knows how long before things slide again?
