My husband refuses to believe in coronavirus

I am finding it difficult to tolerate my husband's continual assertion that coronavirus is not real and is, in fact, a tool used by governments and big pharma companies to control us. He believes that Bill Gates is behind it all. Any reasonable discussion is off limits and he is now trying to convince me that I shouldn't have the vaccine when it arrives. Not sure how to deal with this.

He is putting you and others at risk. He sounds like a bully. Maybe he’ll catch it but then you’d get it too. Have a laugh to belittle him - what you could do is tell him you’ve been told to Isolate then stay away from him and wear a mask at all times in the house and sleep in separate room. He’ll be incandescent with fury and you can snigger away.
He is a moron. .

Nightwriter. Does your husband wear a mask when he goes into a shop?

25Avalon

There are also people who still believe the world is flat. Does he tell you how to vote so why should he tell you whether to have the vaccine or not?

Ah yes, those flat-earthers. I read somewhere that if the world were flat, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now. xx

Sorry to say this but he is acting like a bloody idiot. I've heard all the conspiracy theories and they are pathetic, my daughter works in the hospital as a nurse and people in their droves are being admitted with Covid-19 in some terrible states. So far your husband hasn't seen a friend or a loved one suffering, wait until he does then he'll change his mind.

Huguenot I have asked many people posting on other forums just what ‘they’ are going to do with us once we are ‘controlled’, but I have yet to get an answer, other than ‘ the truth is out there’, or ‘ do your own research’. Maybe Mr Nightwriter could tell me?

I read a fellow’s reply to a ‘Bill Gates tracking device’ post yesterday, saying he doubted that Bill was interested in when he put his bin out or went to the lavatory ( I’m paraphrasing!).

I feel sorry for the deniers. They obviously lack the ability to cope with the frightening reality of it. But no way could I tolerate living with someone like that.

vampirequeen Wed 11-Nov-20 11:02:48

My SIL believed it was a conspiracy and masks were an attempt to assert even more control. Now he has Covid along with DD and DGC. Not only that but because my youngest DCG are in the same bubble at school they passed it to another DGC so my other DDs family are in quarantine too.

There are still plenty of people who say the holocaust never happened!!!
Everyone has their own opinion. Hope your DH's doesn't come back to haunt him!!

I have a young friend who has become prey to this. She is prone to anxiety anyway (and works in the care sector). But despite all evidence to the contrary she gets upset and angry that we are all being manipulated, although she can’t rationally say for what purpose. She is on the Aspergers spectrum. It makes me wild the effect these people have. What do they get out of it?

PennyHalfpenny Wed 11-Nov-20 10:49:01

I’d get him a tinfoil hat pronto.

Dillonsgranma Wed 11-Nov-20 10:49:00

I think his doctor ought to speak to him. Why not ring your surgery and tell the doctor your worries. And that your husband is delusional. I’m sure the doctor will help x

DeeDum Wed 11-Nov-20 10:46:44

Tell him, he might if he did a shift in intensive care with my daughter, and seen how drained she's been getting through each shift.
Or spoke to my son in law who lost a workmate/ friend aged 45 with two young children to it during the summer
Or perhaps can try to get to see a dr at my surgery as it's had to close because of it.

Like it's a plan to bankrupt and disrupt half the worlds business too

Tell him to grow up !!!

I think Sodapop makes a really good point in saying that some people take on board conspiracy theories as a way of ordering and controlling a situation in which they have no control. I do understand how people’s anxieties may manifest in this way. Having said that some of the theories are just plain bonkers aren’t they? It also amuses me that these armchair experts think that they know more than eminent scientists with years of study and solid research behind them...

Seefah Wed 11-Nov-20 10:45:46

I would suggest since he likes internet for info he goes on Twitter and searches Covid nurses doctors covid deaths. There is plenty of first hand comments from people who have lost husbands wives parents etc and nurses and doctors talking about harrowing days of nursing patients etc. One of my clients is an ICU nurse and she said her ward was losing 6 patients a day at worst in April. I personally know six people who died and three who’ve had it. But I agree with some gransnetters maybe his ‘they’re out to get me’ is a mental health issue. Having said that I’m not 100% sure he’s entirely wrong.

Moggycuddler Wed 11-Nov-20 10:41:54

I can't understand people who believe such bollocks. Why would the governments of the world want to kill half their people and ruin their own businesses and economies? And are millions of doctors and medical staff all over the world lying about covid patients? And out of all those millions, not one has stood up and said it's all a lie? All the families who have lost someone are all lying about it? Why?? Even a conspiracy theory usually has a reasonable reason behind it.

Nannan2 Wed 11-Nov-20 10:39:23

And Juicylucy- i hope you santised everything thoroughly when plumber left cause if he didnt belive in it its likely he wont be extra careful either! (Id also report him somewhere as he could spreading covid or at least putting customers at risk daily! Its these bloody idiots who wont accept it who are keeping it spreading! Where do they think all the other illnesses came from then? They had to start somewhere.Or dont they believe in those either?total bonkers. ?

Brownowl564 Wed 11-Nov-20 10:39:22

There are a lot of conspiracy nuts going on about this online and even protests, but then some people still believe the earth is flat. Sounds like nothing you say is going to change his mind

Nannan2 Wed 11-Nov-20 10:30:34

Does he not believe others exist either? Cancer? Or colds? Flu? Chicken pox? Measles? Etc? All things people either catch or we hear of someone we know has had over the years- does he not believe any of those exist either?has he never been ill in his life? If so and he believes in those why not this? I hate to say so but maybe you should get your gp to speak to him- he sounds a bit deranged to be honest- why would the gov'ts / health organisations the world over spend so much of their money on a 'hoax'?Sorry but time to wise him up- tell him he must stop this and believe its happening or find somewhere else to live as your risk of him not having a vaccine when offered is too great! What if its compulsory to have it? What then? Because unless it is i can't see how we are to survive as a society because the risk of it to humanity is too great. And by 'agreeing to disagree' with his theory you're helping him to believe his theories- these people pretending its not happening are the ones with conspiracies- not the scientists/gov'ts. If he cant see that then he maybe needs help.

Phloembundle Wed 11-Nov-20 10:30:05

If he was young, I would say he'd been playing too many fantasy games. Men seem to live in a make believe world where they are the beefy good guys triumphing over evil, a la James Bond. We, pragmatic women need to bring them down to earth. As for Bill Gates, his philanthropy is endless, and he is now involved in a plan to find some way of detecting dementia in the early stages - something grossly underfunded till now.

As governments across Europe and beyond cannot agree on any one thing - how could they possibly all get together and agree on a hoax pandemic?????

Juicylucy Wed 11-Nov-20 10:25:26

I feel your pain I had a plumber in my home yesterday and I had the news on, he proceeded to tell me exactly the same things your DH is saying. He went on and on in the end I had to take myself away because he was relentless and the job was taking forever because he was spending to much time preaching to me. Least I only had it for few hours, poor you living with it constantly.

Perhaps you could get him psychiatric help a few months of electric shock therapy will soon cure him of his unnatural thoughts, He will then become a good little sheeple and believe what you tell him.

Quizzer Wed 11-Nov-20 10:20:29

He should try telling that to the widows of our two friends who have died from Covid19. Both watched their loved ones pass away from a distance as they were not allowed to visit. Both ladies also had the virus but were not hospitalised. Their husbands were both over 70 but very fit and healthy before contracting the virus.
No one is trying to control us least of all Bill Gates. He is a brilliant businessman, but is also a philanthropist.
