It will all go pear shaped due to super spreader Christmas.

Yep. I can't understand why people/Government think it's under control. It's only 'under control' so long as we all stay home.

Well listening to the radio today it said 40,000 of the deaths were people with little time of living left, either through great old age or though terminal illnesses, of course it doesn’t make it any better to those involved in losing a loved one, but it does put it more into perspective
I stay very positive and just look for the time we say
Do you remember when .....

Although it’s rising again now in Wales, the two week lockdown when it did take place was actually very successful in reducing the incidence, and it’s still less than half the rate per 100,000 still than it is in England.

The mistake here I think was in not continuing once England started the lockdown, had that happened we would be even lower. I’m so glad it’s coming down in England at last though, and am hoping that the measures announced today will get Wales back on track again too - the lower everywhere, the better for us all.

The rate in our area is plummeting maybe because we were on tier 3 and then lockdown.

I am clinically extremely vulnerable and have had an email from Matt Hancock advising against going to the shops or forming a Christmas bubble. I have also been offered free vitamin d. There were lots of links for help which could be useful for people living alone.

B9exchange onwards and hopefully upwards. Too much negativity on here can make people depressed and anxious, it isn't fair to pile it on.

Well, this went downhill quickly grin

As a Scot, I usually adhere to the example shown by SNP MPs at Westminster and refrain from commenting on England-only topics. wink

But in this case its good news for all, so I think we should just take the news at face value and try to be positive for once!

Our numbers in Wales have gone up since the end of our fire break. England has yet to come out of lockdown. Let’s see what happens to the numbers then ?

B9exchange Mon 30-Nov-20 18:47:22

Thank you Elliane, I do feel more optimistic now, I have friends who are really in a bad way with anxiety, and it is hard trying to prop them up.

First the number of infections came down, then the number of hospital admissions, the number of deaths will get fewer in a week or so, we are on the right trajectory. And we seem to have ordered enough vaccines for several each, so roll on spring!

Maybe your lockdown in Wales wasn't long enough, but also the timing seemed a bit early which now leaves a problem ahead?

Oh dear, I am the bringer of gloomy news.

You are forgiven, seeing as you're usually fairly upbeat! grin

A 17 day firebreak was perhaps not long enough.

Well I am a glass half full girl who has been watching the numbers on several sights and I am cautiously optimistic.

I do hope that because the High Street is being allowed to open 24 hours a day in the run up to Christmas that we will not see another spike. This in my laymen’s opinion is far more dangerous than going to see your family for a few hours over the holiday period.

I think they removed the wrong one, B9exchange because a couple of people posted on the other thread.

I posted that, unfortunately, cases are on the rise in Wales so I don't think we've reached the corner yet, let alone turned it.
sad

Good news indeed B9exchange, although not out of the woods! I'm not surprised at this announcement having read reports from the Continent 2 or 3 weeks ago that they were over the worst. Of course we are that much behind them.

I think double posting, even quadruple posting, would have little effect on this site where most posters prefer doom and gloom announcements with depressing news.
It makes me smile that 2 hours after your post no one has shown any positivity and happiness. Yet only one hour after a negative lockdown title was posted, there were 10 agreeing posters.

B9exchange Mon 30-Nov-20 16:23:55

Apologies for the double posting, laptop playing up, I have asked GNHQ to remove one!

According to the Health Service Journal, the second wave has peaked in England’s hospitals, with the number of beds occupied by covid-19 patients falling for five consecutive days across the country.

Within two weeks this should be reflected in the death rate, as there is always a two week lag.

We will get through this!
