Hi there everyone
I've not posted before but felt so fed up today I'm hoping to use the hive mind to improve my mood.
I'm approaching 60, single parent for the last 15 years after a long unhappy marriage. Currently I'm working 5 short days a week in a stressful health care role, whilst caring for my elderly parents, mum is terminally ill with breast cancer, and my 2 adult DC at home because they are ASD.
I have been really careful with Covid precautions and have successfully worked through all the lock-downs to keep our very vulnerable patients in the unit free from this virus.
I was tested at work as usual on Friday and tested negative. Started to feel increasingly unwell over the weekend so got a drive through test on Sunday and was notified by text that I was positive on Monday morning.
I feel pretty grim, bad cough, aches and fatigue, hoping that the vaccination I had 10 days ago will mean that avoid a hospital admission.
My problem is that I am really annoyed about catching this, I have a background studying microbiology and have taken all precautions possible whilst continuing to work and care for my family.
I'm fuming with people who don't wear masks, my neighbours are still having parties every Friday and in the supermarket locally I have seen staff members not wearing masks (I'm aware they may have a health exemptions) but what about the gangs of teenagers hanging around on the streets? The people who wear masks incorrectly?,
I have potentially risked the health of all my colleagues and patients (hopefully the PPE will help prevent any transmission)
Cheer me up Gransnetters please any funny stories greatly appreciated or cat photos are equally acceptable 2 of my terrors are attached.

So sorry Notagranyet but I hope my story might help to cheer you up. I am new to GN as I have only just become a grandmother. I love your name as it reminded me of myself up to 4 months ago. I now have a darling first grandchild after hoping for the past 10 years. My DD finally succeeded at 48 using a donor egg and she and her DH are over the moon. Having lost my DH during the first lockdown my GS’s birth is such a life affirming and joyous gift. Thanks to FaceTime I see him every day. My family live hundreds of miles away and I have only seen the baby once but I shall never forget that first cuddle. Sending you best wishes for happier times.

Betty and I are sending our best wishes to you.

Very sorry to hear that, you have done a good thing by isolating yourself. It’s these IDIOTS whose thinks that, they are untouchable by partying in their houses. It will catch up with them. I hope you recover very soon,as you have a family to take care of. Get well soon.

Notagran So sorry you're ill and wish you a speedy recovery and no lingering symptoms. My close friend is a nurse supervisor in a surgery center and her pregnant daughter and son-in-law are ICU nurses in the hospital. She's long been frustrated with people's cavalier attitudes toward mask wearing and social distancing and just phoned yesterday to say her SiL had tested positive. Keeping all of you in my heart and thoughts and am very thankful for all you do.

Pictures are of my cats, Dizzy & Donny and my little guy, Oscar who is keeping warm on top of my flannel shirt. Dizzy's kidneys failed last week and I had to take her in for the last time to see the vet. She was 19 and her "baby", Donny (in front) is 18. Diz always licked the top of his head and now he presents it to me a dozen times a day for pets and kisses. smile flowers flowers

Sorry to read you've got COVID 19 after all your carefulness. There was a very good interview on our local radio on Monday with a consultant epidemiologist, Dr Bharat Pankania, who was explaining how the negative tests are quite inaccurate.
My niece shared this today so - hope you’re a Queen fan and you can sing along to it. Made me laugh
Hope you’ll be feeling better asap.

Yes, inappropriate slip. Multi tasking and not reading through. Obviously it was a health enquiry.

Patsy429 Tue 19-Jan-21 16:18:56

So sorry and hope you soon feel better. My DGD's cats enjoying snow bears! Hope this cheers you up. x

annodomini Tue 19-Jan-21 16:18:30

Molly10, do you know what 'demise' means? When you first used it, I thought it might be a typo but you did it again!
Nobody has said that a first vaccination confers immediate immunity! The information I have is that after two or three weeks it will give you a degree of protection; you can still get the virus but the symptoms are likely to be greatly reduced in severity.

I'm sorry about the Covid designation. Yes, with the new variant out there it is even more important that we take the extra precautions. We can't be too careful with this beast. Speaking of beasts, she isn't a kitty, but her name is Kat (Katana) and her nick name is Kitty.

Shinamae Tue 19-Jan-21 15:43:23

Molly10I don’t think the word “demise” is appropriate.....

mrswoo Tue 19-Jan-21 15:37:32

(Molly10 - I don’t think you meant to put “demise”)

Notagrany I hope you will soon be feeling much better.
Covid is an absolute pig and you certainly don’t need or deserve to be feeling fed up and poorly.

Here’s some daffodils to brighten your day - spring is just around the corner.

netflixfan Tue 19-Jan-21 15:34:18

Hope you get well soon! I didn’t know you could still get COVID if you’ve had the Jab. Hope it’s not too bad for you. I wanted to send you a photo of my dog, who is very stupid, but I can’t work out hope to do it!

Molly10 Tue 19-Jan-21 14:32:07

Notagranyet1234 - Sorry to hear of your demise and I hope your recovery is speedy. I was very concerned that you had received a vaccine, follow all precautions yet you have still succumbed to this and very quickly. I would have thought a 90% cover with the vaccine would stand you in very good stead. Like others have asked it would be interesting to know how you think you could have caught it. All knowledge is heplful. I am due to recieve my vaccine this week and I'm concerned that even the centre is a hub of catching covid.

An update on your demise would be helpful.

Best wishes for your speedy recovery. Here's a happy photo of my dog who will wait for you to be well enough to play football with him smile

poshpaws Tue 19-Jan-21 14:17:07

I'm so, so sorry that after all the care you've taken to keep yourself and others safe the damn virus got you anyway. As others have said, hopefully having had the vaccine will mean you don't need to be hospitalised with it or suffer longer term effects. I'm going to try to attach some photo's of a couple of my cats and a cat joke, and meanwhile in case you haven't already read it, here's a link to a Mumsnet thread that had me literally crying with laughter last night, after a really emotionally draining day. I hope it gives you the giggles too.
