Vaccination side effects

The doctor that gave me my jab advised taking paracetamol if I felt bad afterwards. I don’t understand why the medical profession do that. Any reaction is the bodies immune system kicking in and taking paracetamol works against that. I do understand if someone is feeling really poorly but surely it’s best for the immune system to do it’s job without taking unnecessary medication.

My mother always had side effects with every new medicine prescribed or injection given to her.
I felt sure I could cure this. I started removing the leaflets which came with her medication. Worked a treat. ?

I've never had side effects to any vaccination I've ever had. I'm not that old and was certainly only in my 30s and 40s when I was having vaccinations for eg Typhoid and Yellow Fever. I doubt my immune system would have been flagging at that age.

Interesting what Monica says because my OH never seems to catch anything and it's the family joke that his version of a bad cold is two sneezes! He had the Astra Zeneca vaccination and woke next morning flushed and with a high temperature and a headache and feeling awful he said. He'd recovered by lunchtime but I wondered if his immune system kind of got out the big guns in response to the vaccination. It made me think that we need to take Covid19 seriously, it really isn't just flu.
I always check on the side effects of medications for information, I never get put off, I just find it useful to know.

Our immune systems function at all levels. Some just have stronger ones than others. Not all of us respond in a similar way to vaccines.

The comments on the workings of the immune systems of those who showed no response were speculative and it was made clear, that no response to the vaccine did not mean poor take up, just the possibility that for some people that may be the reason.

I have never had any adverse reactions to a vaccination, that I can remember, but I do overreact to oral medication and I am allergic to penicillin. The immune sytem is a complex system.

Thanks Monica, I find this all very interesting. I always want to know, Why? It drives my clinicians mad, I'm afraid.

For the poster who mentioned having a whisky or two after the jab - I did read that drinking alcohol before or for a week or two following the jab could have an adverse affect on its efficacy. Sorry I can’t remember the source but it would have been a medical source as I don’t read any other regarding vaccination.

My husband abstained for took weeks after reading that, Laura. Not easy, as he does like a wee dram! However, anything that helps is a good thing.

Coming late to this discussion so I haven’t read all the posts.

I had the AZ vaccine last Saturday with only one side effect. In the past when I haven’t felt ill but not 100%, I’ve noticed rashes that disappeared with 24 hours. Yesterday morning I noticed the same type of rash that has now disappeared. I put this down to a vaccine reaction.

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this as a side effect to feeling unwell without any other symptoms?

It doesn’t bother me at all and will certainly have the second dose when it’s offered.

I had the Pfizer vaccine last Friday...slight sore arm but was fine...Monday evening and all day yesterday felt as if I were starting with a cold and really really tired....feel much better today apart from annoying intermittent itching ,head,neck,torso...dont know if any of these are related to the vaccine..but am still happy to have had it!

LauraNorder, The advice about alcohol was aimed at very heavy drinkers., lthough there has been wider discussion on this subject.

If this was a matter of concern, surely the NHS would be warning those coming for vacination both pubicly and specifically that they should abstain before and after getting the jab.

DH had the AZ vaccine on Monday, no side effects at all. I had it yesterday morning and by the evening was shivering, aching and felt very unwell. I feel somewhat better today but not 100%. DH seldom reacts to anything, he went through 6 months of chemo with very few problems.
It certainly hasn't put me off having the second dose.

Sar53 I have heard that side effects are milder with the second jab. I felt quite poorly the day after my first jab but it won’t stop me having the second one, just so glad to have been vaccinated now

Thanks for the info re alcohol. I I’m sure you’re right Monica, aimed at heavy drinkers but have gone without my evening glass of red just in case and not a drop of gin has passed my lips. Not really missing it. Pity they didn’t warn about chocolate and biscuits. Oh and maybe cheese and crackers

Well we had a celebratory G&T after our vaccinations last week. Just felt like such a special occasion.

Had the AZ vaccine at 5.00, so far all well, hope I’ll be okay for work tomorrow.
Slightly off topic, but it worked like clockwork.

The Bloke had his last week - Pfizer, no side effects. I'm still waiting for my date .

Nothing at all so like others hope they put enough in. I never get any effect from the flu jab either.

No side effects here at all - not even a stiff arm, unlike my last flu jab when my arm ached for nearly a week!

DH had his last Friday morning Around 8 pm he felt cold and shaky, went to bed and has been fine since.
I had mine yesterday morning. Absolutely no side effects at all, not even a sore spot.

I’m allergic to penicillin but otherwise have had no problems with bad reactions to the numerous vaccinations/immunisations I’ve had in my life.

I had the AZ vaccine on Monday. A few minor aches and pains the next day but there could have been various reasons for those. However today, three to four days after the jab, the arm where I had it is aching quite badly. I had read about delayed reactions but not really believed they happened.

Had the Astra Zeneca this morning. So far, slightly achy arm and feel much more tired than I usually do at this time of night. I’m hoping that will be all.

Had mine last night, slightly achy today, but it’s my day for looking after three children, so that could explain that!
Tummy also a bit off, but again that could be completely unrelated.
Can’t see or feel anything in my arm at all.
