Vaccination side effects

I don’t think I’ve seen many references to this so just thought I’d like to hear about people’s experiences. My DH and I had the Oxford vaccine on Sunday. He’s been absolutely fine since and I felt mildly unwell that night but all ok now. I was quite anxious because we know several people who had some dramatic side effects including a neighbour who collapsed due to a very high fever. I’m so thankful to have felt ok but would like to hear how others have got on.

There have been a couple of threads on this recently

None whatsoever after the Oxford AZ! Even if I’ll have some side effects after the second dose, it’ll be well worth it!

My DH and a friend think they were injected with water it has been so uneventful.?

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 09-Feb-21 12:38:48

DH had a very high fever and crashing headache for 2 days, but not until nearly 24 hours after the jab. He said it was like a very bad dose of flu.

Now he is fine.

The thing to remember is that in the clinical trials for the vaccines, there were no serious side effects whatsoever. All symptoms reported were very mild and short lived - sore arm, tiredness, slight headache.

Obviously with the huge number of people now vaccinated ( over twelve million)
it’s inevitable that some people will fall ill with a variety of symptoms totally unrelated to having had the vaccine. These people would have become ill anyway.

Like you, aonk, mine was Sunday afternoon and have felt nothing more than tenderness at the injection site, as you get after any injection. I think if you read too much about possible sides effects, it's easy to imagine you have them. Best not to look them up if you are due for a vaccination!

I had the AstraZeneca vaccine two weeks ago and at twelve hours had fever and felt unwell, at 24 hours back to normal except... then had a raised, red, painful swollen 3" area at inoculation site. This lasted ten days, gradually fading but still have a hard 1" lump which is uncomfortable if knocked.

I have not been able to read anything about similar reactions and have a small concern regarding my second jab, due in eight weeks (we have a date).

Obviously, any pain or discomfort will be worth not having full-blown Covid (I had very mild Covid in July - and wonder if this is why I had such a reaction).

Had my AZ jab last Thursday, did not feel a thing and have had no side effects, hope there was something in the syringe smile

Candelle that sound more like an infection at the injection site than a reaction to the vaccination itself? I think you should go to your GP, because if it is a reaction to the vaccination it needs to be reported for inclusion on the national database.

Had the AZ last Thursday on Friday I was super tired and slept 11hrs that night which was fine. Since then I’ve been perfectly fine. I’ve no idea if that was a side effect or not.

I had the AZ vaccine on 31st Jan. Didnt feel a thing. Fine that day, fluey and tired next few days but 9 days on l still have a bruised sore arm at the site of the vaccine.

Peasblossom Tue 09-Feb-21 15:41:40

Nothing at all. Like prestbury I hope it was real?

Oldernewgranny Tue 09-Feb-21 15:44:41

I had my AZ vaccination a few days ago and felt very unwell for about 36 hours but fine now. I know 9 other people with AZ side effects too but those who had the Pfizer have all been fine.

BBbevan Tue 09-Feb-21 15:52:10

I had the Phizer on Saturday, sore arm on Sunday, all fine Monday

MrsJamJam Tue 09-Feb-21 15:55:08

DH had the Oxford one and was a bit under the weather for 24 hours, I had the Pfizer one and have been completely fine. I think with so many millions now having had them any serious side effects would have come to light by now.

prestbury Tue 09-Feb-21 16:06:07

There have been a few reports of people getting the Pfizer Jab and having a stiff arm, don't suppose it's anything to do with the fact that they also produce Viagra grin

MaizieD Tue 09-Feb-21 16:10:54

I had AZ on Saturday. Normal slight tenderness in injection area for a day or two (like any vaccination). Nothing else.

I echo prestbury. It was so quick it's hard to believe anything went in grin

Yes, I had mine first thing Sunday morning, was fine all day. Woke up around midnight feeling really ill, boiling hot, banging headache, joint pain, sore eyes, couldn’t stand anything touching me and my arm was so sore and could hardly move it. I took a co-codamol tablet which knocked me out, slept all day yesterday and most of today. The headache has gone and I’m feeling much better.

I’m glad I had it and I will go for the second jab. I’m sure Covid would be much worse.

Blossoming Tue 09-Feb-21 16:50:18

Meant to say, it was Oxford AZ.

Patsy70 Tue 09-Feb-21 17:00:45

We had the Pfizer vaccine 3 weeks ago, and apart from a little soreness around the site of the injection, which only lasted a few hours, we were both fine. Our 2nd is booked for 8 April.

My OH had the AstraZeneca Sat morning and he felt unwell all day Sunday but is OK now. I have mine yesterday and have a headache and had trouble staying awake all day today but I'm feeling much better now. We know of people who have felt unwell for a couple of days and others who have not had any problems at all. We both feel that people who have driving or construction etc jobs should be warned they may be unwell the next day.

I had my jab (Oxford) late Sat afternoon. I woke up on Sunday morning with a terrible headache which stayed for 2 days, and I had flu type muscle aches. I still feel a bit wasted now. You are supposed to report any possible side effects here - coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/
