No holidays until August

Foreign holidays are unlikely to get the go-ahead until August, according to senior government figures.

Officials have warned that the government’s review of foreign holidays, due on April 12, will not recommend the restarting of international leisure travel until later in the summer.

The government’s roadmap out of lockdown has touted May 17 as the earliest possible date people would be able to take foreign holidays.

But this is looking increasingly unlikely and those who attempt to leave England to go on holiday will be fined £5,000 under new laws that kick in on Monday.

A high ranking source told the Sunday Times that the May 17 date was now looking “very optimistic” and said: “August is looking like the most likely moment.”

Thanks for the explanation GrandmaKT. It all depends of course, but an equivalent holiday (eg hotel compared with hotel, campsite compared with campsite) is usually cheaper in many other countries.

DD just booked four days in Bute, end of July, normal school holiday prices.

Cancelled our September Bergerac trip for 3 reasons: the French have been slow getting vaccinations going; half don’t want to be vaccinated; and apparently it’s all our fault for not exporting a vaccine they don’t want. Just hope the Scots let us in for June. But I really would like some warm sun even though I’m not a sun bather or beach person.

Go abroad if you want to, but please don’t bring Covid back to the UK

My sentiment exactly!!

My garden has been all landscaped and I have a huge raised bed to plant flowers, so I will be happy pottering about there this year. I normally book a house at the seaside near the Giants Causeway, it's only an hr from me, but didn't bother this year cos everyone will be going there as they maybe won't get booked to go to the sun. August is too late for some to wait to get booked, it's all too much up in the air at the minute.

Not bothered about going abroad for holidays at all. However, we would dearly love to be able to get to New Zealand next February for our DS' wedding (already postponed by a year) and our new GC. I wonder if it will be possible?

New Zealand is the goal for us too. Have missed GD’s 18th last month so would love to be there for DD’s 50th next March, but I think it’s unlikely with NZ’s very strict border controls. I do hope I’m wrong!

If anyone's that desperate to go abroad---go, at your own risk, which is what I'd say to anyone to stop them from moaning it's that simple !

Yes but don’t bring the virus back to the UK just as we’re getting on top of it.

I can’t wait to go abroad on holiday again, unfortunately we can’t whilst there is still a need to quarantine. I was lucky to have a holiday in September. We’re all entitled to our own thoughts on this.

These are live flights this evening on Flight Tracker. What hope is there for getting the virus under control.

I'll be 70 in May and had been planning - since this time last year - to stay in a Lodge in Scotland, with all my daughter / sons / grandkids all coming to visit during those two weeks.

Well - of course, that all went 'right out the window'. A couple of weeks ago, I contacted the company and asked to move it to the 'same week NEXT year' instead. No problem at all - I'll just be celebrating my 71st instead of my 70th wink.
