I am just pleased that an enquiry is scheduled.
Until such time as it comes to a conclusion everything is whataboutery and speculations.
Actually having carefully watched what was happening over the past year (well, longer because I was well aware of what was beginning to emerge from China last January) and how the government were dealing/reacting to it I’ve got a pretty good idea of what is going to be in the report of the enquiry. Apart from the procurement of vaccine they have been totally always reactive. And still is,looking out how long it took to start quarantining people coming from India.
Well weren’t you clever, they did act earlier in Germany, but they are in an even worse position than we are, rising rates, as in France and Spain poor vaccination rates, due to European and German bureaucracy, have had both mine, 70 year old sister just had hers in Germany. Apart from those Governments who had dealt with SARS, and knew how to deal with this, most Governments were unsure of what to do, didn’t help that China kept it quiet, in compliance with the WHO. Non compliance amongst the population, and Covid deniers all helped towards the spread of this virus. Sick of all the Boris bashing by certain members on here, every touch and turn. Believe we would have been in a bigger mess with Corbyn and Labour.
Fascinating Lin52: - According to the WHO data, Germany had 85,848 deaths, and the UK had 127,651. That is over 40,000 fewer deaths than in the UK,with a population of just under 84 million, compared to the UK's population of a little over 68 million.
On the basis of numbers of deaths alone we have had 48% more fatalities - not taking into account the smaller population.
In terms of vaccinations - as of today, in Germany just under 36 million doses have been administered, and the UK is just under 54 million. That works out at 43% and 79% of the population has been vaccinated.
That's a good result for the UK - but the appalling figures for death and illness are down to the Government's indecision and delay. They also took no account of the recommendations from Exercise Cygnus in 2016, which told the Government point blank it was not in a position to deal with any future pandemic, and its stored equipment and stock was out off date and unusable.
All that and we had already had two significant viral epidemics.
Johnson and his crew were well aware of the rapid spread of the virus in January 2020, and many people - including the likes of the Public Health experts, including Prof. John Ashton and others had already indicated what was needed.
It is not 'Boris Bashing' - it is being critical of failures and incompetence, and drawing up the 'look over there a squirrel' distraction theory with Jeremy Corbyn is no defence of Johnson's failings.
