Anyone watching live? Wow, just wow.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-May-21 10:10:13

Exactly Peasblossom what lies are true ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 27-May-21 10:10:37

Look at the message not the man.

Ask yourself if you recognise some truth in his evidence.

Cummings and everyone else who were the decision makers will be asked for first hand testament.

Their evidence will be used in the analysis of how this pandemic was dealt with in the U.K.

You simply cannot dismiss his evidence as irrelevant.

maddyone Thu 27-May-21 10:11:40

This was the man who arrogantly thought that the rules didn’t apply to him and lied and lied and lied about his actions. How do we know what truth and what’s lie?

Absolutely Peasbottom. He doesn’t know truth from lie and therefore neither do we. I think we’ll have to wait for the review next year and hopefully then we’ll know more.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 27-May-21 10:11:49

The bereaved deserve better than this being shelved for a year.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-May-21 10:13:18

Exactly Peasblossom what lies are in fact true, and what truths are actually lies?

There can be many enquiries, but it all boils down to each members version of the truth (as does any enquiry)

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-May-21 10:14:11

Apologies for duplicate / half posts I appear to have an internet problem!

maddyone Thu 27-May-21 10:14:31

But the pandemic is still raging across the world WW and we don’t know what might yet happen here over next winter. Fingers crossed our vaccination programme will prevent another terrible winter, in fact I think it will, but it may well be premature to start the full review now.

Peasblossom Thu 27-May-21 10:14:46

Well, we can’t have a final enquiry until we’re sure it is final. But an interim one do you think? There must be some benefit in reviewing things and learning from them to help us to deal with the continuing pandemic.

The Welsh Government have been pressing the UK Government for several months to ensure the National Inquiry covers the other nations as well GrannyGravy13, as so much of the guidance came to the other nations from National Government it would be impossible to carry out a full investigation process for Wales in isolation.

The more important question right now is 'is it a coup' or...

Urmstongran Thu 27-May-21 10:20:43

Yet Nicola Sturgeon is in charge in Scotland. Rules are different up there, even now.

I'm bereaved.

I also have a friend suffering with Long Covid who is very ill.

However, I would rather wait until we're more sorted and the whole of the population is vaccinated.

I do agree that some of Cummings' evidence is true. I think we've known most of what he said already. There wasn't much new really.

However, I am still bewildered as to why Cummings appears to have turned into a white knight when posters on this very thread were ripping him to pieces last year.

So if someone you disliked intensely starts criticising someone else you dislike intensely all is forgiven?

The Cummings Effect caused massive problems. People didn't stick to lockdown because Dominic didn't. People will have died due to the Cummings Effect.

He's nothing but a poacher turned gamekeeper.

And as a person who has lost a loved one I am not impressed.

No coup just a sad little man who was sacked and is now on the world stage throwing people under the proverbial bus (apart from his (he hopes) next employer!!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 27-May-21 10:26:21

So if documentation and records show that Cummings is right in some of his evidence, then we have no other choice but to accept the”truth” of his evidence.

MayBee70 Thu 27-May-21 10:26:46

Am I imagining it or are many of the people arguing that the inquiry should wait till next year because ‘we’re still in the middle of a pandemic’ the very ones that are saying life should go back to normal ASAP because we’re ok now?

Gannygangan Thu 27-May-21 10:28:47

Not me, Maybee70

More whataboutery. An enquiry would take evidence from all and reach conclusions about what could be prevented in the future and how. That is what we need.

Everyone has a bias which is why evidence is taken from many not just one person IN AN ENQUIRY and it is analysed by those with knowledge of the subject and those with knowledge of law. The Johnson party are currently denying to the people of this country including the bereaved.

I rather think you are MayBee. Just as many of those who were happy that any means was okay to get "Brexit" but are now charging the leading light of "Brexit" with doing what they once praised him for.

maddyone Thu 27-May-21 10:38:26

Yes Maybe, I am. Because I think we need to get back to something more akin to normal doesn’t mean we should have a premature inquiry. We need to see what happens when something more like normal life returns before the effects of Covid can be fully evaluated. We cannot evaluate properly whilst the world is still in the middle of a pandemic, but because vaccination has been/is being rolled out so successfully in this country, it should give us considerably more freedom. If some people feel safer by continuing to isolate or not circulate very freely that’s fine, but they should not expect to impose that on others.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 27-May-21 10:39:59

I do wonder if those damning Cummings for the lies he spun yesterday are wondering about Brexit now and the lies he told us before and since the referendum.

maddyone Thu 27-May-21 10:42:26

It would be preferable to have this discussion without bringing Brexit into it. This discussion is about Dominic Cummings evidence yesterday.

Gannygangan Thu 27-May-21 10:42:57

I'm not actually damning Cummings.

I am just wondering why now people are hanging on his every word.

I voted for Remain.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-May-21 10:44:13

PippaZ just because you do not agree with someone’s opinion/narrative does not mean it is whataboutery

An enquiry has to delve through the minutia of evidence, discard the lies and false/constructed evidence and draw a conclusion.

Urmstongran Thu 27-May-21 10:47:03

At the end of the day the thing that people will remember is the success of the vaccine programme.

It’s freed the nation. This is what people will remember.

Daisymae Thu 27-May-21 10:48:02

We have the highest death rate in Europe. That's what will be remembered. Even with the vaccine.
