I have at least 2 and I struggle to find something to say to them when they bring it up. Neither are conspiracy theorists; neither have medical conditions that might influence their decision. Both are pleasant people.

I have to confess that it gets under my skin a bit. The more people who get vaccinated, the slower the spread and the nearer we get to managing this pandemic. We do not get vaccinated just for ourselves, but also for everyone else. These people are piggybacking on our taking the vanishingly small risk of being vaccinated.

Can they not see what is happening to the poor souls in India?

Does anyone else have such friends? Do you challenge their decision?

I heard one such person say on the radio that he’d be all right because enough people are being vaccinated to give HIM herd immunity. I just thought, ‘selfish b******’. He had no medical reason not to have the vaccine but just didn’t fancy it!
I do know of a couple who aren’t having it and I’m not sure what I’ll do if I come across them at mutual friends’ houses. I certainly wouldn’t fancy chatting maskless to them, particularly indoors. If I feel uncomfortable around them I’ll probably quietly leave, although if asked why I’d be honest - that knowingly being close to unmasked and unvaccinated people makes me a bit anxious ………. I’m 68 with restricted lung capacity.

I've had both my Pfizer vaccines, a little earlier than for my age bracket because I'm a Community Volunteer. I did feel a bit under the weather although I have to say that I felt far worse after my. pneumonia vaccination last August.
I would sooner feel under the weather for a couple of days than end up in intensive care. We will never eradicate the virus unless everyone steps up and gets vaccinated. Bet they'd all have it if a free flight to holidays destinations were on offer!

I never thought I’d ask for evidence, but bettyboo22 please send me a link to your research. I’m not in work today and I’ve just finished The Name of the Rose, so I’ll have time to read it.

Sadly, yes and even though I care about them I find myself angry at the attitude of 'I might be poorly'. SO WHAT, ill for a day or so or protect yourself and everyone else? I felt dreadfully I'll after dose 1, hot, dizzy, nauseous etc, but after dose 2 not a thing.

My friend is in her own bubble of right to choose, which is correct. However she then becomes incredibly poor little me when I refuse to meet for coffee. My 91 year old FinL lives with us, and I want him to get to 92.

Thankful I have no friends who would refuse the vaccine - I would be hard pushed not to tell any who did how daft they were being ! Sure many older folk have had their polio vaccines and others to travel and thus stamp out such awful diseases.

Summerfly Thu 10-Jun-21 16:13:46

If by chance I did end up with a blood clot and die, I think it would be preferable to lying in an intensive care bed, on my stomach, gasping for every breath.
Not that I want to die just yet, but I think the former would be the lesser of two evils!
I have had both my vaccinations.

I totally respect the right to make your own decision …. or do I? We live in a society with all its benefits so in a global pandemic should maybe step outside our comfort zones and get the vaccine! As for being afraid of being unwell - ??‍♀️??‍♀️ Give me strength! I only know one person who won’t get the jab, if I see him I will tell him he is a numpty and then move the conversation on. Why are so many of us in the 21st century so afraid of pain, discomfort, illness etc? As my dad would have said “ Strewth! Give me strength!” ?

Oh goodness! Just read Bettyboo! ???????‍?

All my friends have had it - one who is very "alternative" in that she uses all natural therapies said that she had done it not for herself, but for the elderly people she works with, which I thought was lovely. I know 2 people who have had Covid and suffered long term effects from it - one off work for nearly a year and still suffers from tinnitus (which she'd never had before); one is the son of a friend of mine who is 35 and had a stroke (he's still on blood-thinning medication). Most people i know who have Covid have been more tired since. So, for me, having the vaccine was a no-brainer. I would gently ask her why. Whether you avoid her in future or not is up to you - personally, I would forego any hugs!

JaneJudge Thu 10-Jun-21 16:49:01

Bettyboo is right though, I've seen footage of the Biden's arriving in Cornwall

Nainijo Thu 10-Jun-21 17:11:14

Myself and husband have had both jabs, but daughter, who doesn’t live near, is hesitant. Not sure why, I keep nagging!

sandelf Thu 10-Jun-21 17:13:34

Lets turn it round then... What state would the country be in if we all decided we wouldn't face the vaccine? The few acquaintances I know who have avoided the vaccine. - I'm avoiding them. They are the ones who have never followed the advice on distancing and reducing contact. Not speaking out of ignorance - I had a vile reaction first dose. - IT PASSED - I DID NOT NEED TO BE LOOKED AFTER BY THE NHS

Nainijo Thu 10-Jun-21 17:14:47

Just read Bettyboo, jeepers ?????

I remain aghast at some people's selfishness in refusing the vaccine. The answer of it being your personal choice is hard to believe and if I had my way it would be compulsory. people who choose not to be vaccinated should really think through their real reason very carefully indeed and most of these so called reasons do not hold up to scrutiny. Some people had blood clots before Covid and still do and in some cases it is very hard to prove the cause is Covid and compared to Covid the risk is very very small. Also the damage to previously very fit and healthy people of long Covid cannot be underestimated. We live in an area with very little Covid but I still know relatives left behind after their partner died of Covid. My main concern now is my Pilates teacher who I assumed had been vaccinated and has not and has chosen to reopen the studio and not tell people which to me is cowardly if she trusts her own decision as others will also assume she has because of her age. I only found out when I saw her in a cafe and asked when her second jab was so I could work out when I was going back to the studio as I will not go in until she has both jabs and told her this in January. My younger yoga teacher was very up front before her jab was due and most of my fellow Zoomers are waiting until she has her second jab. Far too much of a risk otherwise .I am choosing only to socialise with people who are double jabbed at present.
I think the country needs a critical mass of people to be jabbed before we have to live with the risk and with new variants that is over 80% of people, not just adults. If someone chooses not to be jabbed they put that onus of safety on others. Why would you do that?

FarNorth Thu 10-Jun-21 17:40:44

my Pilates teacher who I assumed had been vaccinated and has not and has chosen to reopen the studio and not tell people which to me is cowardly

That is awful.
She should have the courage of her convictions and let her class make their own informed choices.

Thisismyname1953 Thu 10-Jun-21 17:44:58

To the person who said that if she goes into hospital and gets covid from there then she will sue , what about my DD who is a nurse caught covid from a patient who was coughing and spluttering all over her whilst she treated him? She had PPE on but was inserting cannula and doing blood tests on him so was very close . She knew exactly where it came from when she started with symptoms a few days later . This was November before vaccination and she was in hospital for nearly 3 weeks mainly in ITU and HDU . She was very ill and has only just returned to work and is still not fully fit . Do you think that she should sue that patient? Or maybe I should because I live in her home and she passed covid onto me .

FarNorth Thu 10-Jun-21 17:46:18

However she then becomes incredibly poor little me when I refuse to meet for coffee.

The danger is not from her to you of course, Treetops, it is from you to her.

You, being vaccinated, might be carrying infection all unawares. Has she thought of that, do you suppose?

JadeOlivia Thu 10-Jun-21 17:49:41

Yes and I was quite surprised. I had both vaccines felt unwell for about 3 days with each one. I shall be keeping them literally at arm's length.

Chewbacca Thu 10-Jun-21 17:50:25

bettyboo22

I Haven’t had the jab nor am I going to I’m not anti vaxer rubbish I did research and not believed everything I saw on bbc
The jabs are all dangerous and the reason you don’t hear about people with loads of side effects is they keep it hidden
This was all about world domination by gates and the Rothchilds and unfortunately child abuse and more
Don’t think for one minute Biden is president because he’s not that Jim Carey the actor playing Biden he’s dead he was a child abuser look into this more and you will see that the world is not what you think ? and in time will thank the lord for president Trump and the Military

Oh thanks for that bettyboo22! I haven't laughed so much in months! That's hilarious!

Talullah Thu 10-Jun-21 17:57:21

Very funny, bettyboo22

But this is something that has confused me for ages. We will all have heard something about Bill Gates and others who want us to have this vaccine. But what I've never heard is why would Bill Gates want us all vaccinated? What good would it do? So much nonsense about magnetic bodies and chips in our arms. But what would be the purpose. These people peddling this stuff don't seem to say what good it would do for Mr Gates.

Chewbacca Thu 10-Jun-21 18:17:38

I think I can help there Tallulah. Apparently, Bill Gates and his mates want to inject us all with a silicon chip that will track us from the cradle to the grave. It can be "adjusted" over time, so that he can control us to vote in a certain way, be passive when he wants to wage war on other countries to get control of their assets and also to control birth control. By 2050, it's anticipated that we'll all be compliant, walk in single file and wear colour coordinated boiler suits according to our designated rank. This is the list of ranks and the colours we'll wear:

Epsilons dress in black
Deltas wear khaki
Gammas wear leaf green
Betas dress in mulberry
Alphas wear grey.

I'm hoping I'll be a Beta; the colour suits me so well.

homefarm Thu 10-Jun-21 18:26:27

Have had both jabs - why ever not? if you are fit and able.
Don't know anyone who has had the offer of vaccination refuse it.

minxie Thu 10-Jun-21 18:26:40

I’ve had both vaccinations and felt absolutely no after effects from either. If you think you will be unwell afterwards then you will be. A positive attitude works wonders. I don’t have time to be ill. Having the vaccine protects others and not just yourself.
