I thought this was worth passing on

I very much doubt if reading this will influence a dedicated non-vaccinate diehard, but it gives me a few more arrows to my bow when people give me a load of rubbish in favour of not accepting the vaccine.

Copied from friend :
I'm vaccinated and, no, I don't exactly know what's in it - neither this vaccine, the ones I had as a child and adult, or in other treatments. Whether it's for cancer, AIDS or vaccines for infants or children. I also don't know what's in other over-counter-medications, it just cures my ailments.

I don't know what's in the ink for tattoos, or every ingredient in my soap or shampoo or even deodorants. I don’t know the long term effect of mobile phone use or whether or not that restaurant I just ate at used clean foods and washed their hands.

I also don’t know how much deadly asbestos is in the buildings I visit.

In short ...
There's a lot of things I don't know and never will.
I just know one thing: life is very short, and I still want to do something other than just going to work every day or having others in our community and country locked in their homes. I still want to travel.

As a child and as an adult I've been vaccinated for mumps, measles, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hep A and B, small pox, polio, chicken pox, tetanus, influenza and quite a few others. My parents and I trusted the science.

I'm vaccinated, not to please the government but:
* To not die or become seriously ill from Covid-19.
* To not clutter a hospital bed if I get sick.
* To live my life.
* To have my community and country get back to normal.
* For Covid-19 to be an old memory, as it will.
* To protect us all.
Text copied, you can too. ?

Excellent …well expressed sentiments which may hit the spot…we can only hope so.
Thanks for sharing ExDancer thanks

Harmonypuss Tue 21-Sept-21 14:52:37

I'll definitely be sharing this too.
I have neighbours who work in the NHS who are refusing to get vaccinated, I think I'll put these facts to them next time I see them!

poshpaws Sending condolences.? I’m very sorry to hear of your loss.
After my in-laws caught covid and died, an anti vaccination person felt the need to ask me if I was sure it was actually a covid death or had they had underlying conditions. Insensitive and clueless. Those online who are the source of the conspiracy theories are beyond contempt.

Audi10 Tue 21-Sept-21 15:38:34

Good post, but of course there are many who cannot take the vaccine for various reasons, so I would never say are those that aren’t having the vaccine going to expect hospital treatment if they get covid!

Yammy, are you talking about the queen, i.e., Queen Elizabeth, because the person referred to is Mean Queen, just someone that writes blogs abut saving money. There's a big difference!

Sorry got the wrong Queen it did not sound like her somehow, but some of her family did or still do use alternate medicine.

queenofsaanich69 Tue 21-Sept-21 16:03:16

Brilliant,thank you for that

I trained as an Infectious diseases nurse in the late 50,s and early 60.s. I've seen children suffering and dying from whooping cough, measles, scarlet fever and all the range of infections including Tuberculosis and Meningitis. My children have had every vaccination available to them. I was also required to have vaccinations to be able to do my job. I'm 80 now and worked until I was 68. I'm fit and healthy still and am able to walk my dogs 3 times daily.. I'm fortunate I haven't had to confront any of the non vaccination brigade yet. I am not prepared to argue or to listen to them. No matter where they are.

Omasweetie Tue 21-Sept-21 16:16:46

Here here! Very well said. ??

AlisonKF Tue 21-Sept-21 16:46:55

This is rational, commonsensical advice. There seem to be an awful lot of irrational people around though. I also know people who will take no pain killers for almost anything, including the ubiquitous arthritis. Some half understood negative report has lodged in the brain. All people have to do is search for non biased information via google, not social media - or is that too difficult for some?

Shelflife Tue 21-Sept-21 17:30:42

Anti vaxxers - foolish people. If they be become very ill with Covid they will expect our overstretched NHS to care for them. I have no patience with their decision. On one hand I wish to respect their right to refuse vaccination but they have no right to refuse vaccination , catch it and pass it on . They will probably end up in hospital and possibly require intensive care. I am waiting to be called for my booster!!!!

GillT57 Tue 21-Sept-21 17:47:50

rocketstop

Yes and as I always say, funny how you never hear of an anti vaxxer refusing a hospital bed when they have succumbed to covid isn't it ?

Indeed, and I wonder if any of them demand to see the research results of all the drugs they receive while in hospital?

Wheniwasyourage Tue 21-Sept-21 17:51:23

Thank you ExDancer. How very sensible. I don't know any anti-vaxxers, I'm happy to say, or I might say something I would regret. One of my AC had covid before the vaccine was available, and another (who had had both doses) had it recently. The first was quite ill, but fortunately recovered, but the second said it was no worse than a bad cold.

We're waiting for our boosters, although if it was decided to give them to another country where even the health care workers have had no vaccine, that would be ok too.

A woman in our area died from complications from the vaccine, she had two very young sons, she was in her 30s the likelyhood of her dying from covid was low to be honest. If her sons grow up with some vaccine hesitancy I hope they are treated with empathy and understanding rather than with no patience. There are many reasons why people might be hesitant, education and support is more likely to help rather than judgement.

A neighbour was ranting recently about abuse of children i.e parents wanting vaccinations for their children and that David Icke was right....

I really am at a loss about the viewpoint of so many and am more convinced than ever about the potential dangers of social media.

Don't you just love it that there are so many people out there who are willing to get their scientific advice from an ex-reserve goalkeeper rather than those who really know what they're talking about? I guess natural selection will sort it all out eventually!

Paperbackwriter Tue 21-Sept-21 18:16:12

Those who refuse to be vaccinated should therefore be refused hospital treatment if they get COVID .....simples

Hmm... that's a hugely unpleasant and very slippery slope. I mean, where do you stop with that. Would you extend withholding treatment to smokers or those who take part in contact sports?

Ro60 Tue 21-Sept-21 18:25:49

? Thank you ExDancer

Tickingbird I wish money would stick to me - maybe it will after the 3rd vaccine ?

Happysexagenarian Tue 21-Sept-21 18:28:59

A very good argument ExDancer, totally agree.

Freda65 Tue 21-Sept-21 19:09:29

Excellent post...
If only others could grasp the reality and ambiguity in life that this lady so clearly articulates...
Well done her!!

Janetashbolt Tue 21-Sept-21 20:07:58

I love the fact that youngsters (late teens, 20s 30s) won't take the vaccine as they don't know what's in it but are quite happy buying pills in the toilets at bars/clubs for a fun high!!!

Milliedog Tue 21-Sept-21 20:41:15

Anyone knowing an antivaxxer, send them to me. I caught Covid in January, a few weeks before I was called for the vaccine. I seemed to recover then Long Covid hit me like a ton of bricks. Previously healthy and active, I now can just about manage a slowish 15 minute walk. Then my chest tightens and I start to wheeze. There are days when I cough a lot. There are days when I decide to take off my bra because it's feeling way too tight and I'm breathless - then I realise I'm not wearing a bra. Yes. There are a few people who react badly to the vaccine. But there are thousands of us, who, although we've had a mild dose of coronovirus, are now suffering with Long Covid. I feel very blessed. Some Long Covid sufferers have been bed bound since the first wave. If you haven't yet had the vaccine, run to the nearest vaccination centre. You really don't want to get this.

Is that what your young adults do? My AGCs don't and they are all vacinated and they have to take regular tests for their jobs. Poor you.

And a very big THANK YOU to all those brave 80 and 90 year olds who had there vaccinations ahead of us and showed us all how safe it was.

honeyrose Wed 22-Sept-21 09:03:54

That’s brilliant, ExDancer. I’ve copied it to show to the friend of a friend who’s an antivaccer.

songstress60 Wed 22-Sept-21 11:05:23

I am vaccinated as I have asthma but I will NOT go for lateral testing twice a week. The reason I got the vaccine is to get my freedom back and I call testing twice a week putting yourself at risk of having to isolate.

annodomini Wed 22-Sept-21 11:32:03

I call testing twice a week putting yourself at risk of having to isolate

But...*songstress60*, if you were isolated after a lateral flow test, surely that would be for the reason that you had tested positive for covid19 and would need to be isolated. I just don't get the logic of your objection to the tests.
