News channels reporting with the increase of covid infections saying we should be all returning to face mask wearing...how do GNs feel if/when it becomes compulsory again?

I hope those who believe they don’t work would be happy for a surgeon to operate on her without a mask, surgical gowns or washing his/ her hands.

Totally agree

Definitely. After watching the animations showing how droplets can spread, it's obvious that wearing a mask stops most of that. Not only do we protect ourselves from Covid but from flu and the common cold. It's not much of an inconvenience as far as I'm concerned. As someone who used to travel frequently on public transport, I was always getting coughs and cold from people on the trains and buses. It was awful. So anything that can help is great.

Absolutely yes !

We wear masks in indoor and public places and don't go into others houses or have visitors who are not immediate family who have done lateral flow tests - basically just our son. Wish our government woul pull out their fingers and start keeping us safer. Mask wearing can't come soon enough. Heading for collapse of NHS if we're not more careful. Healthcare workers, GPs etc under enormous strain. Not fair, not safe, just reckless.

I had my hair cut six weeks ago. My hairdresser didn’t wear a mask and neither did I. Today, we were back to wearing masks. My hairdresser and I wondered why, with cases and deaths increasing, and the NHS asking for this, why the government hasn’t brought back mandatory mask wearing. There’s definitely a parallel between the Tories here and the Republicans in America. A weird sort of reasoning that wearing a mask somehow takes away our liberty.

I still wear one but seem to be in a minority round here.

Fear seems to be the main drive to get everyone to wear masks. We have to live our lives without constant worry. And I know I will get stick for this, but everyone will die sooner or later let's enjoy life while we can, also with the world groaning under the weight of humanity perhaps sooner would be a good thing.

I wear a mask only when I have to - when accompanying DH to his numerous medical appointments and on the very rare occasions when I take the bus. Isn't it important to be exposed to everyday germs to boost immunity to, say, colds and flu?

Parky Fri 22-Oct-21 16:51:33

Absolutely right Grandma. Common cold devastated indigenous Australians when Cook arrived!

Nannashirlz Fri 22-Oct-21 17:03:34

I’ve not stopped wearing mine in shops etc but outside I don’t wear one but as cases are rising I’ve started to wear again and so have a lot of other ppl I noticed when in city centre yesterday

Nannan2 Fri 22-Oct-21 17:04:44

Yes, still wearing it, and gloves.

What a hard decision! Do I take advice from esteemed scientists with years of experience and dedication or Two Wolves off of the Internet? Bit of a no brainer!

Yes I still wear a mask

Well we have worn them throughout and will continue to wear them as and when requested, a bit like shoes off in someone’s house if requested. However I restarted choir last week ( obviously with no masks) and on Wednesday we both tested positive for covid.
So annoyed that we have avoided it for nearly 2 years!

GrannyGear Fri 22-Oct-21 17:37:06

I don't like wearing a mask and have some doubt about how useful they are. But I am prepared to wear one when asked to do so, eg in supermarkets, churches, buses - and I imagine theatres. I've not been to the theatre for at least 2 years but I don't fancy the idea of sittting in a crowd of people with their faces muffled up and not even being able to blow my nose or rub my chin.
When I'm walking or cycling on my own it's great to be able to breathe freely.

Greciangirl Fri 22-Oct-21 17:37:41

Yes, I never stopped wearing them.

They should make them compulsory again since infection and death rates have shot up.

Ignorant government dragging its heels as usual

Katie59 Fri 22-Oct-21 18:04:13

Just got back from shopping the number wearing masks was probably 10% far too low, the news on hospital admissions is depressingly high, expect more restrictions, including overseas travel, why would they want us?.

Kali2 Fri 22-Oct-21 18:14:55

As said above, so so much easier when it is mandatory- so simple.

Precisely !!

Covid death rates are 10% of what they were early in February.

Pammie1 Fri 22-Oct-21 18:27:07

I’m ECV, still wearing a mask and using hand sanitizer/social distancing. I don’t go out unless it’s absolutely necessary and still not keen on anyone coming into my home. Both myself and my partner have been very careful from the start, but he still managed to contract Covid from poor protocols on hospitalisation and passed the virus on to me. I caught it myself for a second time in July, despite being double vaccinated and can trace it back to a hospital out patient visit.

I think the government is taking a risk by not introducing compulsory measures by now, given the rise in cases and knowledge of how the virus behaves in winter. I also think mask wearing might be helpful in dealing with the other illnesses that circulate during winter, given that immunity levels will be low.

Sawsage2 Fri 22-Oct-21 18:28:25

Definitely. Stay protected.

francisdelima Fri 22-Oct-21 18:49:34

I never stopped wearing a mask in public, including in Church, supermarket etc. I have continued to observe other anti-Covid measures such as restraint on the number, frequency, etc in the company of many people especially in indoor, confined spaces and continue with measures such as hand washing frequently and the use of sanitising gel. My plea to people of all ages is to respect Covid, which has not disappeared and is returning apace after dwindling for a short while. Protect yourselves, especially if older and vulnerable and do everything possible PLEASE to protect others! God bless.
