News channels reporting with the increase of covid infections saying we should be all returning to face mask wearing...how do GNs feel if/when it becomes compulsory again?

Mumofthree Fri 22-Oct-21 11:25:30

I've never stopped wearing one.

JdotJ Fri 22-Oct-21 11:25:33

No

I still wear one in shops and on public transport. Since the original lockdown I have never had a cold and I am sure this is because of the masks and I am happy for this to continue.

I haven’t stopped wearing one since the first outbreak of covid, you can’t be to careful it’s only a small thing to do and hopefully it will protect us in some small way along with the jabs

I still wear mine, its personal choice at the moment but I do believe they give some protection for ourselves and others. Especially when I see people sneezing and coughing in shops with no care for those around them. Having just recovered from Covid myself I am keen to ensure that I keep as many of my germs to myself so others who could be more vulnerable do not get infected with Covid, cold or flu…

I live in Wales, it hasn't stopped being compulsory indoors in shops etc, can't see a problem

This is from oneworlddata.com showing the four nations of the U.K.
England’s rate is less than the other three who have mandatory face coverings.

A wee bit selective in our data there GG13. Although the graph is tiny it appears to stop at the beginning of October?

Since then Scotland's rates have fallen below England's and England is probably very soon going to overtake Northern Ireland. Wales is higher, probably as Casdon has said before, affected by the issue at the testing lab.

I always wear one in communal places and shops but not outside if I can socially distance.

I am still wearing a face mask, so is my husband, am surprised at the number of people in TESCO who are no

moggiek Fri 22-Oct-21 11:30:27

Yes. It is the law here in Scotland, but we still wore them last week when we were in England.

TheMaggiejane1 Fri 22-Oct-21 11:30:50

Yes, in shops, restaurants and other indoor places. I don’t use public transport at the moment. We plucked up the courage to use up some theatre tickets we’d got ages ago for Milton Keynes theatre and I was amazed at how few people wore masks. It was a matinee performance so most of the audience were 60-70 I would say. The theatre ‘strongly advised’ people to wear masks but didn’t enforce it at all. I even heard the group of women sitting behind us say ‘Oh we can take our masks off now that we sitting down can’t we’. I wanted to turn around and ask them if they thought germs only circulated while you were standing up but didn’t want their germs in my face!

Torbroud Fri 22-Oct-21 11:30:53

Yes no problems with this, bring it back, compulsory

GrannyGravy13 Fri 22-Oct-21 11:31:22

Not selective, just googled and it came up Alegrias1 and obviously data is constantly changing.

albertina Fri 22-Oct-21 11:32:09

Never stopped wearing it in shops etc and on the rare occasions that I forget my mask I either use my coat collar or I buy new masks.

I feel safer that way and hope I am keeping others safe too.

My friends young grandson is seriously ill with it so it can affect anyone.

Alegrias1 Fri 22-Oct-21 11:32:39

You know me GG13, I like to be up to date with my data wink

Venny Fri 22-Oct-21 11:32:51

I'm in aberdeen Scotland and everyone except those who are exempt still wear masks

absam1 Fri 22-Oct-21 11:33:25

I wear a face mask in shops, hairdresser and public transport. We're not protecting ourselves so much as others. Many of the shops ask politely for their customers to wear them, so I do, it is respectful to shop workers. I'm amazed on public transport how few people wear them. My grandsons (10 and 7) have now moved to Italy and they wear them in school and have their temperature taken on entering the school. We noticed when visiting them that many Italians wear their masks outside too. Perhaps that's why they have a lower rate of infection. I have had an issue with my breathing over the past year but I can still manage to wear a mask and will continue to do so with the number of cases being reported at the moment.

polnan Fri 22-Oct-21 11:33:49

Yes, I have continued to wear it ,however our church has lapsed imo.. and it should be made compulsory imo

pinkjj27 Fri 22-Oct-21 11:34:02

I never stopped wearing one. Sometimes I am the only person in a shop with one on, but hay-ho I always been a trend setter. I have lupus, so I do all I can to look after myself in all sorts of ways not just when it comes to covid.

Cossy Fri 22-Oct-21 11:35:00

I am wearing mine for places like Boots, and crowed areas

Speldnan Fri 22-Oct-21 11:35:22

Yes all the time. The most stupid thing the government ever did was to drop the mask mandate- everyone was used to it and it did no harm to anyone, but it might’ve done some good in lessening the spread and making people feel safer.

Urmstongran Fri 22-Oct-21 11:35:55

We can always rely on you Alegrias! That’s a compliment by the way.

Have you thought the people catching covid are probably the ones who wear masks, clean the supermarket trolley and keep using the antibacterial gel as though it’s going out of fashion
That are ruining their immune system, which has nothing to fight a virus with.
