Booster vaccination

Will be six months on Sunday since I had my second Covid vaccination. I have not been invited for the booster. I recognize there will be lots of people in the same situation but wondered if any GN s have any advise as to how a booster can be speeded up. I have been on NHS website and was informed I was not eligible at this time for the booster - I am 72 and feeling anxious now.

I went to a walk in centre. Literally just turned up and walked in. Didn’t phone and didn’t have an appointment. In and out in less than 30 mins. Excellent.

You have to phone for an appointment at the 'walk in centres' You cannot just turn up as the title suggests! Walk in centres means it is not a surgery. I booked my booster at Boots after getting NHS text. Had flu jab at my surgery though. No side effects.

Thank you Annie Gransnet for your prompt response. Off to lie in a darkened room. ?.

I believe we have walk in places here too if you choose that My husband and daughter had theirs done by GP at our local health centre I have only just been able to book mine when the 5 months come in I do not go to GP as I have no underlying conditions

I cannot believe that many of you have had to make an appointment for a booster. I live in NW London and my local pharmacy 10 minutes walk away is doing walk-in boosters and flu jabs.

I did not have mine at the same time because if I had a reaction I felt I would not have known which drug it was.

I was one of the first locally to have had both around a month ago now. I am so grateful they are so organised.

I hope you manage it Maybee.
Something to look forward to.

You really don't want Lymphadema Maybee my husband has it and it's not good

MayBee70 Tue 09-Nov-21 14:46:09

It’ll be 12 days. Hopefully we will be going for a walk outside. I still don’t go into anyone else’s house.

Maybee, I found this, dated 1st November, on the British Heart Foundation site:

How long does the booster take to work?
A recent study showed that from seven days onwards, a booster dose of Pfizer is extremely effective at preventing illness from Covid-19.

No large-scale trials have looked at how long a booster dose of Moderna takes to be most effective, but we do know that the vaccines work in similar ways.

You shall see your granddaughter, all being well!

My face was a bit tingly for a few days. It worried me because I saw a headline saying the Pfizer vaccine could cause lymphodaema. Which then annoyed me because , when I googled it I read that lymphodaema is caused by the lymph glands reacting to the vaccine ( surely a sign that it is working!) and isn’t anything to worry about. These scary headlines really annoy me. Still don’t know how long it takes for the booster to be fully effective.I’m in my 7th day now and want to see my granddaughter next week.

Yes, travelsafar, I felt very tired and useless the day after my booster + flu - partly tired from not sleeping well with two sore arms, of course. I rested as much as possible that day and felt a lot better by the next day, so I hope your side effects pass off as quickly. The sore arms were a lot better by the second night, and so sleeping was much easier too. flowers and best wishes.

Same for us Jaxjacky with texts. They came before the 6 months was up. Choice of times and dates and a place closer to where we live - 3 miles away. Only stipulation was that we booked a date after our 6 months was up.

We were also given a choice: Flu and covid vaccine at the same time or just covid and then flu one 14 days later at the doctors. We went for both and got the Pfizer, same as the first two vaccinations. For such a rural county, the vaccinations have gone really smoothly. Our friend (79) had his 3rd primary vaccination 3 weeks ago.

Mine too Alegrias1 txt from GP with a selection of times and dates available, vaccination booked 25th, 6 months and 5 days after 2nd. No shambles in the south of England either.

Sorry to read you are under the weather travelsafar, I hope you feel better soon.

I got my blue envelope today, 24 weeks minus 1 day since my second dose.

Appointment is next week, 24 week + 6 days since my second dose. Flu and Booster together. 10 minutes or so walk from my house.

What a shambles, eh?

I had my booster yesterday lunchtime and felt awful when i got up this morning. Banging headache, feeling very hot and generally feeling out of sorts. Taking my ususal medication one of which contains paracetamol has helped. Now i just feel like i want to put my head down on a pillow and sleep. I had planned to sort out my hanging baskets today and have a sort out of xmas decs. Might still go into greenhouse and do baskets as i can sit down and it is usually is quite warm in there. Anyone else suffering after their booster???

You can book up to a month in advance from today, so it only needs to be 5 months since your 2nd jab.
Glad I booked last night having seen MandL's post.

Well done btw!

FannyCornforth Mon 08-Nov-21 10:13:32

Thank you Susan, but my six months isn’t up yet, I was just looking out of curiosity (not to mention cluttering up the website and needlessly contributing to the problem!)

Susan56 Mon 08-Nov-21 10:11:03

Fanny when I went on the NHS website to book ours we were at the end of a very long queue so I phoned instead and got through straight away. Both booked in for tomorrow?

FannyCornforth Mon 08-Nov-21 10:06:29

I’ve just gone on the NHS website to see if I’m eligible, and I was 1,498 in the queue!

Pittcity Mon 08-Nov-21 08:55:00

Ours are booked for the end of the month.
