I do wonder if long covid does actually exist, Some patients do experience symptoms that outlast a coronavirus infection, and the list is getting longer and with symptoms being added. But are these symptoms psychologically generated or caused by a physical illness unrelated to the prior infection. Long Covid is largely an invention of vocal patient activist groups. Legitimizing it with generous funding risks worsening the symptoms the NIHR are trying to treat.
I totally disagree. My DH has Long Covid. It is not his doctor’s imagination that he was referred to the heart clinic with a heart murmur; it is not his imagination that he now has to inject insulin following Covid as it sent his diabetes haywire; breathlessness is a daily occurrence; he suffers from a lack of concentration. He had Covid in February of this year and nearly died. Previously no heart murmur, diabetes controlled by diet and medication plus no lack of concentration. Of course some of this could be down to age but not the whole gamut of problems since Covid.
Shingles is due to herpes becoming active again but they don’t know why. At least there is a vaccine now for selected people.
ME was denied existence for years and although it is now recognised, little is done to help. I empathise with anyone suffering with post viral problems however they were caused.
The problems are not psychological, neither are they invented by patient activists.
