I do wonder if long covid does actually exist, Some patients do experience symptoms that outlast a coronavirus infection, and the list is getting longer and with symptoms being added. But are these symptoms psychologically generated or caused by a physical illness unrelated to the prior infection. Long Covid is largely an invention of vocal patient activist groups. Legitimizing it with generous funding risks worsening the symptoms the NIHR are trying to treat.
Are you speaking from knowledge or is this an opinion?
I’m bemused as to why someone who says they suffer from ME can dismiss long covid as a condition that people just imagine
This is a forum and I am entitled to my opinion like you are yours! there is NO need for your rude comment!
Sparklefizz I totally agree. Trying to control my anger.
Calmlocket your thoughts are NOT appreciated.

CalmLocket These are exactly the sort of comments that were being thrown about when I collapsed with M.E. in 1989. Grrr.

Thank you so much for this article which I've sent to friends who also have M.E.
Another long term ME sufferer here (32 years). When I asked for a review, my GP said "Everyone gets tired as they get older!" If I'd had the energy and strength, I'd have punched him.
I am just hoping that something will be discovered that will help us now that research is being done into Long Covid.
@ ayse, no need for the aggression in your response, I said 'I wonder' I didnt say it doesnt exist.

I totally disagree. My DH has Long Covid. It is not his doctor’s imagination that he was referred to the heart clinic with a heart murmur; it is not his imagination that he now has to inject insulin following Covid as it sent his diabetes haywire; breathlessness is a daily occurrence; he suffers from a lack of concentration. He had Covid in February of this year and nearly died. Previously no heart murmur, diabetes controlled by diet and medication plus no lack of concentration. Of course some of this could be down to age but not the whole gamut of problems since Covid.
Shingles is due to herpes becoming active again but they don’t know why. At least there is a vaccine now for selected people.
ME was denied existence for years and although it is now recognised, little is done to help. I empathise with anyone suffering with post viral problems however they were caused.
The problems are not psychological, neither are they invented by patient activists.

Good. It really worries me that people suffering from long covid will just be forgotten about. Just as people suffering from ME have been ignored for years.
Yes we have been forgotton about! it angers me to think that they are investigating long covid when us M.E. sufferers are left to get on with it!
Another very angry M.E. sufferer. Just spent nearly 2 days in bed with poor husband looking after me yet again. I hope today is better.

Been there here too. Welsh Govt has invested £5m in long covid support.

@agcolehamilton opens the first Holyrood debate on Long Covid, secured by the Lib Dems, focussing on the need of further support from the Government for those suffering from Long Covid
