Testing kits

How are you finding getting Lateral flow testing kits if you aren’t supplied with them through work. It’s ok the powers that be saying test yourself before you leave the house or before visiting or socialising but I think they should be more easily available to everyone.
I’ve ordered a pack from gov.uk with seven in the box. That’s all they’ll allow. They’ll be used up so quickly with myself and hubs. How are you finding it.

I like the gov ones best - you only have to stick the swab up your nose, and the liquid comes in sealed cones, rather than having to squirt it in.
You can order a pack every day. I've been ordering roughly 1.5 a month, for when I'm going to be meeting people with frailer health than me or when I will have been in crowds (extremely rare) or in 1:1 situations like dentist or hairdresser.
Will probably start to order more regularly and test more often, as I'm moving to a complex of flats next month where I'll be in contact with more people more often.

As said, at the moment there’s no limit on how many times you can order. Please register your results online as requested, positive or negative.

I also contribute to the Zoe covid study everyday so I can log my results in there too.

Chemists are doling them out round our way and also if you go for a PCR test. I’m sure there are other ways too.

DH just picks them up from our local library

DiscoDancer1975 Sun 12-Dec-21 16:42:33

We used to pick them up from the chemist, but have to order now. We get one box of seven tests for each of us. So me and my husband.

fourormore Sun 12-Dec-21 17:03:09

We have picked up tests from our local pharmacy regularly for months as we have home tested twice a week as a matter of routine as my husband was on the extremely vulnerable list.

To continue this routine, which is government is encouraging us all to do, we need 4 x tests per week so each box only covers a week and a half.

Yesterday he managed to collect two boxes to cover us for the Christmas period but was told that in future he had to produce a code and was given a leaflet.

I have just been on the gov.uk website and obtained a code to collect two more boxes. However, it also states that we need a new code every time we want to collect more?????????

It's not a problem for us as I will just apply for another code every couple of weeks but to be honest, we cannot understand why, when everyone is being encouraged to keep testing, they are making everyone faff about getting a code each time?

We want to continue testing for our own peace of mind but our concern is that many people won't bother.

Testing Kits are being handed out in my local shopping centre this weekend. I have ordered them online too and can also get them from a pharmacy.

Casdon Sun 12-Dec-21 17:14:09

They are say to get hold of where I am, the library and two pharmacies all stock them.

Oldnproud Sun 12-Dec-21 18:39:46

I order online, and quite a few times they have arrived the very next morning with the rest of our mail.

They have come so quickly that I wondered if Royal Mail are playing a bigger part in their distribution than just their delivery.

I've just been on the NHS site to order some tests.

This is the message I received:

"Sorry, there are no more home test kits available right now."

lindiann Mon 13-Dec-21 15:40:45

I tried to order online not available got a code went to all the chemists in town not available until at least the weekend

ixion Mon 13-Dec-21 15:44:55

Despite the downloaded collection code, I have just been pipped at the post by the lady in front of me who took the last kit.
Pharmacy has no idea when they will receive more supplies.

I was given loads of boxes when I enquired in town. Trouble is the bathroom fitters arrived today so we’re surrounded by boxes from the bedroom so I’ll need to investigate. When I find them I can post on to anyone who really needs them if it helps.

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 15:58:00

Can't get hold of any around here.
We're lucky if the library has anything much at the best of times.
Not available online, either.

I looked on the govt website to check availability in my area of Scotland. It informed me that there’s none available - in the Welsh language! confused confused

There is a very similar thread to this running in “News & Politics” Shazza . Did you know?

My son needs to test twice a week in order to attend his day centre. I didn't know you could order each day usually. I wasn't aware there is a shortage ?

Rosalyn69 Sat 18-Dec-21 08:44:54

I ordered online yesterday and they are coming this morning. No messing about with codes and pharmacies.
Maybe Mr Drakeford has got his ducks lined up.

MissAdventure Sat 18-Dec-21 08:48:56

Still none in for delivery here.
Have been trying on and off for a long time now.
