Chris Whitty for PM

You can tell who the country trusts. People no longer look at Boris Johnson on TV and ask themselves why is this liar lying to me. They already know why. Boris lies because he knows no other way of interacting. Deceit is his default setting. It’s not just the past that is a foreign country; it’s also the present. Truth and Boris have never been on speaking terms. So when Chris Whitty and the prime minister hold a press conference together, there’s only one person to whom the country is listening.

I'd vote Liberal if it meant getting back into the EU.

"liberal" ? Curious. I fail to grasp why anyone votes for conservatives? They want to conserve the old guard. Rich get richer.poor stay poor. Eton/Oxbridge rules ok.evryone else is just cannon fodder at their beck and call. Lie first.then lie again.then lie again. Money talks and we're all mute by comparison to their screaming. Liberal? The clues in the name.
ALL who actually work for a salary/wage are WORKING CLASS! The quicker we stop being so snobbish in this country the better! Career? NO! the majority of people have a JOB! stop bigging up our parts .it's so darned selfish and cruel.

What good idea. I watched one of his lectures on TV. It was brilliant and accessible. It was all about disease. He was so respectful about people and places. Gave me a new respect for him as well as trust. Yes when he starts to speak, you listen.

Chris Whitty has the better job already. And he does his job better than Johnson. I doubt CW would want to be a politician but he ought to be given the Order of Merit or made a Companion of Honour. Johnson has already won the wooden spoon and he has to go but look at the awful choices for a replacement from the Conservative benches.

He’s way too important in the job he’s in to be wasted as PM, it’s obvious that any idiot could be PM!

katy1950 Sat 18-Dec-21 11:25:36

I'm sure Chris whitty wouldn't want the job its thankless you can't please everyone. Plus you couldn't trust any of your colleagues as they are waiting in the wings for your job

Mollygo Sat 18-Dec-21 11:22:32

I’d hate Chris Whitby to be PM. I respect him and what he says, but the vitriol that would suddenly appear about him on GN if he were to become PM would upset me.

I would imagine, based on his long list of qualifications, and huge range of talents (he has been described as a polymath) that he has some traits of the autistic spectrum (please excuse the appalling grammar). Many extremely academic people do.

CW for PM no thanks!

EllanVannin Sat 18-Dec-21 10:52:53

Monica ,
I believe you are reading Mr Whitty completely wrong.
As a medical professional I understand that we all need a " mask " when we work .. whether that be in our surgery or on the Covid update.
You would not like it if your doctor looked anything other than calm , serious and professional, would you?
Yet we all have lives and these include emotions and feelings. I have worked days after the deaths of my parents and none of the patients knew .
I understand Chris is hard working , an extremely kind and caring person who takes his turn working on the wards.
I think he looks absolutely shattered and worn out. He gives his all .
I suspect he cares too much about what is happening but , like the professional he is , he is putting on a brave face and presenting the facts in a precise and clinical manner.
It cannot be easy being CMO in a pandemic.

That post was certainly brief!!

jane1956 Sat 18-Dec-21 10:34:56

Mr doom and gloom? lets all cut our throats now?

BlueBelle Fri 17-Dec-21 18:03:49

Oh dear I think he’s a very clever and informative man admirable but goodness he is so dour, he never smiles, he doesnt blink either , how can you not blink, his face never changes shape, I bet he’s got no laugh lines he doesn’t inspire me apart from knowing he is totally safe hands for information
Apparently he isn’t married, has no children but he does like a drink He looks a loner but comfortably alone I wonder if he ever smiles or does anything that isn’t work
I want to take him out to a rave ?

Happygirl79 Fri 17-Dec-21 17:40:22

Chris Whitty has no reason to lie
Boris Johnson on the other hand knows no other way of speaking

AGAA4 Fri 17-Dec-21 17:16:59

I think that the people who would make good politicians, the caring, the fair minded, those with a conscience and want what is best for others do other jobs.
They become doctors, nurses, teachers and use their skills for the welfare of others. Other professions too of course.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 17-Dec-21 15:55:30

Yes, JVT is wonderful isn’t he? Capable of likening complex issues to football matches and getting his point across. I think he and CW must be wonderful doctors.

grannyrebel7 Fri 17-Dec-21 15:42:32

Love Chris Witty, but I think Johnathan Van Tam would make a better PM.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 17-Dec-21 15:37:44

Spot on Calistemon. He must have the patience of a saint.

Calistemon Fri 17-Dec-21 15:29:22

As a scientist DD says she always enjoys watching Chris Whitty listening to Johnson and obviously thinking "How can I turn this waffle into something that makes scientific sense?
grin

I always look at him and assume he's thinking "How can I say what I think, what the public really need to know, without making my Prime Minister look like a complete idiot?"

The only reason that BJ got in power was because of those who voted Brexit ( rolls eyes ) Let's get back into the EU again !

Not the only reason Boris got in, not enough wanted Corbyn as leader of our country, and you can count me amongst them. As well as many that couldn’t be bothered to vote.

NotTooOld Fri 17-Dec-21 12:57:40

CW does look like he needs looking after, doesn't he? Perhaps a good roast dinner with apple pie and custard to follow. He certainly knows his job and is an excellent communicator but I don't think he's tough enough to be PM.

I'd vote Liberal if it meant getting back into the EU.

I am with you on this one EV. ?

sodapop Fri 17-Dec-21 12:32:50

I agree withMOnica Chris Witty is very good at his job but probably not as PM. Horses for courses I think.

Caleo Fri 17-Dec-21 12:01:30

Telling the truth can be done by politicians. On the other hand, a scientist tries to be objective, but politicians are influencers.
