Do you think his exemption from covid vaccination is a bit odd? I understand Australians are not happy about letting him into the country and the likelihood is that he will be booed when he plays according to Andrew Castle.

Ps, I will be cheering for Salvatore Caruso, what a moment for him! but also for Miomir Kecmanovic, given all the uncertainty surrounding his first opponent.

I’m sure we will see him here in Wimbledon, as we seem to allow everybody in.
Vaccinated or not.

It’s a brilliant result. I really hadn’t expected it. If he is able to come here for Wimbledon I hope he will be booed off the court.

That’s true but he’ll have to take a test before arrival as an unvaccinated person, and two more tests on day two and day eight. He has to quarantine for that entire time until the second negative test. So not the hassle free travel that those of us who are vaccinated will be entitled to.

Of course by the time Wimbledon comes around in the summer it’s highly likely that all our restrictions will have been lifted.

I agree with the decision but heard today that Novak gives a lot of his money away to charities. Good for him.

silverlining48 Sun 16-Jan-22 12:56:52

I always wonder how it is people ‘know’ that particular wealthy people give a lot to charity. In my admittedly limited personal experience wealthy people mostly give only when it’s a public event, so everyone sees their ‘generosity,’ otherwise they can be so tight with their own money they squeak.
It’s well known that poorer people give the most to charity. I had a squillionaire (ex)friend who rudely refused and then argued about a £1 gift aid donation. She was a total embarrassment.
Oh and I agree with the decision too.

You’re probably right Jennifer but I hope you’re wrong.

Serbian spokespersons claiming that Djokovic was tortured. This because his quarantine wasn’t a flash hotel. Somewhat undermines real torture suffered elsewhere.

Well, the Serbs would know all about that wouldn't they!
angry

Calistemon Sun 16-Jan-22 14:21:31

They would be really, really stupid to start making an issue of that

JenniferEccles Sun 16-Jan-22 14:49:27

Really Maddy why?
Do you feel it would be too soon?
I was assuming that if all restrictions were lifted here, it would mean that the virus was more or less under control.
Yes, still around of course but at manageable levels.

maddyone Sun 16-Jan-22 23:18:49

Jennifer
Sorry, late reply, I’ve been out at my son’s house.
Obviously I’d like the virus to be under control, but I think some restrictions should be maintained. The restrictions I particularly would like to continue are those to do with travel. But I think I’m blowing in the wind and the requirement for testing before and after flights will be dispensed with unfortunately.

Calistemon Sun 16-Jan-22 23:22:09

Cases are rising rapidly in Australia.

MayBee70 Mon 17-Jan-22 01:21:03

Which is why they’re totally reliant on their vaccination programme as very few people in Australia have immunity from previous infection. Thank goodness the virus that will rip through the continent is milder than the original one. The last thing they need are people poo pooing the vaccine.

Spice101 Mon 17-Jan-22 12:02:38

Most people here are not poo pooing the vaccine. There is over 92% of the population over 16 double dosed as well as a large number of 12-15 year olds and as of this week the vaccination is available for 5-11 year old children.

The numbers have surged because the Omricrom spreads so much quicker and we have more or less opened up with few restrictions. Still a lot lower than many places though.

I was referring to Djokovic’s attitude to the vaccine. And how he tries to spread his dangerous views on it. I’m pleased that the Australian people are being so sensible.

Look like he may be banned from the French Open too, Sky news.

maddyone Mon 17-Jan-22 18:45:18

He deserves to be after the debacle in Australia.

Luckygirl3 Mon 17-Jan-22 22:04:08

All he has to do is get vaccinated and abide by the entry rules of the countries where he wishes to compete. Nothing could be simpler.

Spice101 Thu 20-Jan-22 05:31:22

ND is set contemplating sueing the Australian Government for "ill-treatment". The figure of $6 million includes the prize money he expected to get if he won the AO.

Mollygo Thu 20-Jan-22 08:51:35

Pathetic. Why doesn’t he do something useful about the suffering in his own country, like Rashford tries to do?

Luckygirl3 Thu 20-Jan-22 09:07:10

Heaven grant me patience.

maddyone Thu 20-Jan-22 10:03:12

He won’t win. He broke the rules.
