Do you think his exemption from covid vaccination is a bit odd? I understand Australians are not happy about letting him into the country and the likelihood is that he will be booed when he plays according to Andrew Castle.

Not over yet . Could be an appeal.

Calistemon Wed 05-Jan-22 22:46:16

In the meantime he's under guard in the airport.
Could be uncomfortable and boring.

Chewbacca Wed 05-Jan-22 22:51:03

Good for Australia! Their decision sends out the right message: the law applies to everyone.

My heart bleeds…..

As long as they let me in in March …

Calistemon Wed 05-Jan-22 23:07:59

Will he still be there in the airport, I wonder?

Like Tom Hanks in The Terminal?

JenniferEccles Wed 05-Jan-22 23:08:14

Yes his legal team is appealing.
It’s funny how so many of us use the word ‘arrogant’ to describe him, but it is how he comes across, isn’t it?

I would love to see him unceremoniously chucked out.

Meanwhile his father in Serbia is up in arms about it!

Calistemon Wed 05-Jan-22 23:09:51

His coach and entourage are with him.

I wonder if Goran Ivanisevic has been vaccinated? Perhaps they'll let him in and he can play instead.

Daffonanna Wed 05-Jan-22 23:31:46

Most of us have willingly been vaccinated so we can all get back to some kind of normal , including long delayed trips to visit family . Those who have chosen , for whatever reason , to refuse the vaccine , should not be given rights denied the rest of us simply for being elite celebrities . They are holding us to ransom while knowingly being protected by the benefits of mass vaccine . Macron used a bit of earthy language to make it clear just how vaccine refusers were going to be the losers , and I’m very relieved that NJ has been given a clear message that accepting a vaccine is not just for losers as he seems to assume .

Oh crikey. Wonder how he’s managing to get his special diet food stuff?

Sarnia Thu 06-Jan-22 06:32:12

Well done Australia. No messing about, a straight refusal. Whether celebrity or not, anti-vaxxers should find their travel and leisure pursuits unavailable to them. Why should those who have been responsible and had their jabs find their lives still curtailed by this lot?

NanKate Thu 06-Jan-22 07:23:18

No vaccination No entry, correct decision.

I have always disliked ND when he encourages the spectators to clap for him when he is going through a bad patch. You would never see Roger Federer or my favourite Rafa Nadal stooping so low.

May the best man win.

I noticed that Rod Laver has been wheeled out to make comments.
I had to look him up as I thought he must be dead.by now.
I ballboyed ball personed for him back in 1961 at Queen's Club.
He agreed that it is all dodgy and calls on Novak to "Come clean"

JenniferEccles Thu 06-Jan-22 09:30:22

It’s not looking good for Djokovic.
He’s being held in a hotel near Melbourne airport which is used to detain immigrants, awaiting a decision on his deportation on Monday.
Good.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 06-Jan-22 09:41:02

We have a long wait for a decision then. I admire the stance Australia is taking, all too easy to keel over when faced with the power of celebrity status. I hope he does get deported, it may send a message out to anti vaxxers just as Macron is trying to do.

eazybee Thu 06-Jan-22 09:43:09

Well, it's Sport isn't it.
The same rules don't apply as to lesser mortals.

Peasblossom Thu 06-Jan-22 09:43:50

Don’t you just love Australia ?

Luckygirl3 Thu 06-Jan-22 09:44:17

If you go to a country you have to abide by their laws.

maddyone Thu 06-Jan-22 10:02:58

Good job he wasn’t coming to the UK, he’d have walked straight in!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 06-Jan-22 10:07:27

I think you’re right there maddyone.

I went through my mind how Boris would have reacted.

Parsley3 Thu 06-Jan-22 10:37:25

I have no sympathy for Djokovic and his anti-vax stand and if he is trying to bypass Australia’s strict rules by applying for a special visa then hell mend him. I can understand that a few competitors, wheelchair users for example, have reasons to apply for exemption but Djokovic sells himself as being super fit. However, trying to be fair, if he is living with an underlying condition that means that he shouldn’t be vaccinated then it would benefit others with similar conditions to know and celebrate what can be achieved. Public sympathy would be with him if that is the case and a shambles would be avoided.

Kalu Thu 06-Jan-22 10:38:09

Well done Australia. What an arrogant individual this man is!
He obviously thinks he is someone special, pleased he is made to,realise, no, you are not!

We haven’t seen DD2 and S iL since summer of 2019 and no idea when we will see them again.

Well done Scott Morrison for making a stance to protect his citizens and well done Macron with his, very clear message.
No chance of Boris finding his backbone for fear of being unpopular, which is more important to him regardless of the outcome during a pandemic!

JenniferEccles Thu 06-Jan-22 10:41:18

Oh I agree NanKate That habit of urging the crowd to applaud irritates me too!
He turns to the spectators and raises his arms up and down as if to say “Come on. Give me a round of applause. Aren’t I wonderful?”

maddyone Thu 06-Jan-22 10:41:42

It’s just been said on Jeremy Vine that Djokovic was using the excuse that he has had Covid and so has antibodies. I’m not claiming this true, but it has been mooted.
I’ve had Covid, but I’ve still had all three of my vaccinations and I’m careful when I’m out and about.

Pantglas2 Thu 06-Jan-22 10:47:20

Correct Nankate

Nadal has called him out and said that decisions (not to vaccinate) have consequences ( no entry).

I’d respect ND more if he’d owned his choice and declined to enter the competition in Australia on that basis.
