Do you think his exemption from covid vaccination is a bit odd? I understand Australians are not happy about letting him into the country and the likelihood is that he will be booed when he plays according to Andrew Castle.

He has celiac disease. But I don’t see how that can excuse him from having the vaccine.

Ah, that might well make a difference.
In fact, some Australian consultants have advised coeliacs not to have the vaccine.

That’s a bu**er.

Smileless2012 Thu 06-Jan-22 16:54:38

I may have got this wrong but it wouldn't have been an issue if he'd arrived earlier and had quarantined for 14 days I think it is, before the tournament was due to begin, but he didn't.

He turned up, full of his own sense of importance and seemed to think that this rule wouldn't apply to him.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 06-Jan-22 16:56:36

Arrogant so and so.

Allsorts Thu 06-Jan-22 16:56:53

Arrogant man, send him home.

I am not a fan of this man and I think his attitude stinks.

However a number of athletes have suffered blood clots after receiving the vaccine, my SIL ( ex team GB) very fit and under 40 now has two blood clots one on each lung after the second vaccine.

The internet throws up little on this subject as it has been censored so as to not deter people from having the jabs.

My SIL contacted his ex coach in the U.S he advised no more jabs.

silverlining48 Thu 06-Jan-22 17:17:21

Even triple jabbed people Have to stay and pay to isolate for 14 days in a designated hotel. He should be no exception.

I've just read that he's been nicknamed 'Novax'!

Iam64 Thu 06-Jan-22 17:56:54

I’ve just heard his mum interviewed- she says it’s wrong, he’s being detained like a criminal, ‘they’ won’t even let him move to a better hotel. The one he’s in is dirty and the food is awful.
If I was the Australian pm/ authorities, that would be enough whinging for me - he’d be in leaving my country

Ailidh Thu 06-Jan-22 18:11:25

As far as I can read, Djokovic was given an exemption by the tennis authority to compete but that's not the same as having permission by exemption to enter the country.

That’s what Mums do. He could always have said, “If the rules say I can’t go, then I won’t go.”
I’ve listened to Oz people complaining about their government sticking to the rules. We complain when the government don’t stick to them.

Iam64 Thu 06-Jan-22 18:24:47

Not all mums Mollygo. I confess to defending my two to the hills and back. I hope I wouldn’t if they were behaving like prima donas ?

I do like Australia’s no -nonsense, tough approach to lots of situations regarding entry to their country.
People either follow the correct procedure or they are out.

Some GN's moan when Australia is held up as an example of how to deal with today's problems but I wish we were more like them. If anyone pitches up who has no right to enter Australia they are sent back on the next available flight.

My grandchild is Coeliac and had her COVID injection early as she was classified as clinically in need! She is only 13.

Brilliant!

Ashcombe

I totally agree with the tone of this thread - may I introduce a brief note of levity, courtesy of a friend who said this earlier:-

“His parents must have known this would happen, hence they called him Novak……….!!”

Ahem!

Can I refer you to the above, Aveline ?

I’ve just read that he's been nicknamed 'Novax'!

I think Ashcombe beat whoever that was to,it. grin

Zoejory Thu 06-Jan-22 19:20:53

Nova doesn't have coeliac disease but he eats a gluten for diet.

Also his team were told back in November that he wouldn't be allowed into Australia. Apparently.

Lincslass Thu 06-Jan-22 21:12:20

I’ve just read, from his father, little precious is being crucified, like Jesus!!! Obviously the arrogance and self importance is a family trait.

Australian medical professionals seem to have differing ideas about the vaccines, including the Queensland CMO.

Spice101 Thu 06-Jan-22 22:23:10

If he has a genuine reason for not being vaccinated then that is fine and would be taken into consideration BUT he has not declared this is the case and as far as I am aware he still has not provided proof of a/ being vaccinated in which case there would not be an issue b/ any reason why he cannot be vaccinated or c/ why he is not vaccinated.

I'm sure that when his appeal is heard in the court he will be expected to give factual answers and some legitimate answers as to his stance.

JaneJudge Thu 06-Jan-22 22:31:26

his parents were just saying he is in prison and then he was in his perfectly nice hotel room moaning about the food, which also looked perfectly fine
idiots grin

JenniferEccles Thu 06-Jan-22 22:40:27

Given his well publicised fussy eating habit I imagine he would consider any hotel meal unacceptable.

I have a horrible feeling he is going to wriggle out of this ban on Monday.

I hope I’m wrong.

MayBee70 Thu 06-Jan-22 22:48:48

I hope he’s being given the vile food that Richard E Grant complained about when he was in quarantine!

Of course, if they're feeding him local delicacies such as grubs and crocodile he might not find it appetising.
Or Vegemite.
