Do you think his exemption from covid vaccination is a bit odd? I understand Australians are not happy about letting him into the country and the likelihood is that he will be booed when he plays according to Andrew Castle.

Australia is relying on vaccine protection at the moment because they haven’t got immunity from prior infection thanks to their strict covid rules. They can’t make an exception for this man.

If he is anything like his mother you can see where the superior attitude comes from. The Ozzies are playing by the rules, good for them. He can go home if he wants to.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 07-Jan-22 15:42:48

Yes you can see where he got the attitude. Arrogant ba***rd.

Calistemon Fri 07-Jan-22 16:01:43

Did I hear this right? A BBC reporter said on News 24 that the Australian Government was in danger of making a spectacle of itself around the world?
This was after a very sympathetic report about Djokovic, showing another man describing the appalling conditions and food in the immigration hotel and Djokovic supporters protesting.

I was clearing up the kitchen at the time so wasn't concentrating fully but it seemed to be very biased.

Just googled to see what medical conditions apply for a medical exemption, well he is not pregnant, don't think he is autistic or has a learning disability and I don't imagine he has a terminal illness and is receiving end of life care. So basically he is lying.

but we are told that the virus is less transmittable if a) the people are more than 2 metres apart and b) in the outdoors. Tennis falls into that category where the issue falls down is the flights back and forth to Australia

It's not just the flights though, it's his accommodation, his meals, any socialising he does while he's there, any people in his team eg. physios. He's not outdoors on the courts 24/7.

Apparently his father is making comparisons with the Crucifixion of Jesus!

jerseygirl Fri 07-Jan-22 16:58:58

My daughter , son in law and grandson live in Australia. I haven't seen them for 5 years now. They should have been coming to the UK 2 years ago just after covid hit. This didn't happen and we were all bitterly disapointed. Australians have worked hard to keep safe and i agree with their rules and regulations. They certainly don't need this awful arrogant man who thinks he can do as he likes. Go home Novak!!

GagaJo Fri 07-Jan-22 17:00:25

Is the idiot on a plane yet?

PamelaJ1 Fri 07-Jan-22 17:32:11

We were put in ‘prison’ in Australia in March 2020.
We went to visit DD at the beginning of that year when we took masks with us( because of the fires).
We left her family in Sydney, did the Great Ocean Rd. Then flew to Perth to visit my old business partner.
We then went to a hotel to explore Perth before leaving for the U.K. 4 days later.
No such luck. We got to the hotel and we’re not allowed to leave the room until we got on a plane. We were not allowed to fly via HK to had to find another flight out. Bit worrying and unexpected.
Do I have any sympathy for No- vac? Nope.
It Aussie rules all the way.
Photo of our room service food included.
Thank goodness we aren’t special people and found we could cope.
Australian TV is dreadful BTW!

Calistemon Fri 07-Jan-22 17:49:07

Australian TV is dreadful BTW!
The adverts are! Especially local ones.

What about A Place to Call Home? Perhaps not an appropriate title at that time, PamelaJ1!

Smileless2012 Fri 07-Jan-22 17:55:27

I agree with you about Australian TV Pamela it really is bad.

Seen some really good Ausy dramas in the UK but they weren't on tv when we there Calistemon.

PamelaJ1 Fri 07-Jan-22 18:22:15

I wonder if Novak has access to Netflix???

Mollygo Fri 07-Jan-22 18:24:14

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
There is no respite for any government anywhere about Covid.
Restrict novacs and cries of ‘the vaccine doesn’t stop you getting Covid. You’re getting it wrong!” echo across the media. Cut down on restrictions and cries of ‘You aren’t protecting people. You’re getting it wrong!” appear everywhere.

Smileless2012 Fri 07-Jan-22 18:25:38

They'll be damned if they let him stay IMO and respected if they send him home.

Madgran77 Fri 07-Jan-22 18:27:55

If he is entitled to a medical exemption then so be it. But IF he is, I don't understand why he has been detained!!!

Which rather suggests that he isn't entitled to a medical exemption presumably. So if that is the case then he should not expect any different treatment!

Mariew1 Fri 07-Jan-22 18:31:07

? agree!

I agree.

As a tennis fan I have been following the ATP cup in Melbourne which ran from the 1 st January and ends this weekend. It is a tournament between countries and all the top uninjured players are there playing for their countries. Serbia is there but Novak declined to play ( patrioticNOT). Now he wants to play in the Open for his own glory as he thinks he will win it. I will be mad as hell if he is allowed to play, such arrogance personified!

JenniferEccles Fri 07-Jan-22 19:15:03

I wonder if there are any people outside the hotel voicing their support of the government’s stance on this?
On the BBC news only those protesting at his incarceration are shown.
Surely there must be lots of Australians who are furious with him and want their voices heard as well ?

Yes, as I posted above, the BBC coverage was very biased on News 24.

I don't think lovely Steve Scott (ITV) is biased

Smileless2012 Fri 07-Jan-22 19:57:12

Well I didn't think he could sink any lower in my estimation joyce but I've just read your post, and he has.

Australian Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews says Novak Djokovic "is not being held captive" and is "free" to leave the country anytime he chooses

?

Allsorts Fri 07-Jan-22 20:15:49

If his mother did made that comment about his position was like being crucified, that’s awful, you can see where he gets his disposition from. He can leave any time he wants, he chooses not to because he doesn’t want to, it’s him against Australian rules, he wants them to cave in to his lies, then win the tournament, I bet most Australians are disgusted with him, if he stays, no one should turn up to watch him.

Caleo Fri 07-Jan-22 20:53:23

I don't support anti-vaxxers. He is not being victimised.
