Liz Truss has covid…

This after spending the afternoon in parliament sitting near the PM and, like most MP’s on the government benches, making a point of not wearing a mask.

Unfortunately a few years of Boris has made some of us incredibly cynical.

Quite so.

I don't wish Covid on anyone and that includes Johnson - in spite of the fact that he refuses to wear a mask when he probably should wear one. Didn't his little daughter contract the virus recently?

But I don't think Kali2 was wishing him ill - just being very cynical. As am I. I believe he was very poorly, but not at 'death's door'. However, did he actually say this himself, or was it the media's dramatic interpretation?

It's hard not to be cynical. Many people now realise that he's an inveterate and unapologetic liar. He's been sacked twice for it. Cynicism about such individuals is quite natural IMO.

If you've ever had dealings with people who fabricate, twist and lie as a matter of course, you learn quickly not to trust anything they say.

The House of Commons today.

Marydoll Mon 31-Jan-22 22:57:57

I think that clearly answers the question about who were wearing masks.

Callistemon21 Mon 31-Jan-22 23:10:15

They're quite tightly packed in, aren't they Marydoll!

Look, I have no time for Boris and his cronies either, but I think this unadulterated glee at Truss getting Covid, or Johnson’s baby girl getting it, is quite sickening.
Nobody rubbed their hands in glee when Starmer tested positive (again) , nobody rubbed their hands in glee when my D got it 2 weeks ago despite stringent mask wearing etc in her work as a secondary teacher, and I apportion no blame to my 11 year old GS or 7 year old GD who both had it last week, so why should I think it is OK to be cynical about Johnson having Covid in the early days or regard it as fair game for mockery for anybody else.
Madame Defarge and her fellow tricoteuses would feel quite at home on todays GN.
As for me, I think I need to take a break as I don’t.

I didn't read it as wishing illness on anyone. "Will Boris be at death's door again" sound like a question not a wish to me.

These comments insinuating that Johnson was not really ill when he had Covid are truly sickening because they are yet another underhand swipe at the medical staff at St Thomas's and an insinuation that they were lying about him being ill.

I don't think the staff at St Thomas's ever said anything about how ill Johnson was. That would have been a serious breach of patient confidentiality. I trust they are too professional to have done that.

MaizieD Mon 31-Jan-22 23:33:30

The Education Minister has it too. Perhaps that might spur him on to do something about mitigation in schools.

No they didnt of course.
But he was ill enough to be admitted to hospital and was moved into intensive care.

I remember the threads doubting that he was ill at all which cast doubt on the professionalism of the medical staff at St Thomas's.
Not just once, post after post.

Very unpleasant, just to get a dig at Boris, particularly for those who had family working there.

I'm not defending Boris but I am defending the staff and saying that they did not lie as has been insinuated on GN.

MayBee70 Tue 01-Feb-22 00:01:52

No one’s accusing the staff of lying because they aren’t allowed to comment on anyones medical condition.

However ill BJ was, he was ill enough to be be taken to hospital in an ambulance and was in hospital being treated for several days. I had the same experience and it’s not pleasant. Anyone who wishes illness on another person is clearly not a nice person.
The staff of St Thomas’s were utterly professional in their treatment of BJ and all the other patients they were treating at the time.

So Liz Truss got Covid. She could have picked it up anywhere and now no doubt some others in Parliament will get Covid too. I hope that she and any others will recover quickly. Hopefully they’ll all have been vaccinated, both sides of the House, and all others who work there.

maddyone Tue 01-Feb-22 00:13:15

Lawrence Fox has also got Covid but he was unvaccinated. I hope he gets well as I would hope anyone would get well, but I dislike him intensely and as he wasn’t vaccinated, it serves him right!

He’s lucky in that he’s probably got Omicron. But it means he’ll start spouting all the stuff about it being just a touch of flu, totally missing the point about how deadly previous variants have been. And that will annoy me.

MayBee70 Tue 01-Feb-22 00:51:03

Much as I loathe him I couldn’t sleep when Johnson was in hospital. But I really thought the experience would make him take the pandemic seriously and, at first, that seemed to be the case. But I’m realising more and more that it had no effect on him and he still has no comprehension of what many people have gone through. His inability to wear masks has proved that and it proves that everything starts at the top when you see the government benches still, in the main, maskless. I see that Theresa May, diabetic (as is the speaker), wears one. Out of respect for fellow MP’s that May have health problems they should wear masks.

Does this mean that she won't be able to fly off to the Ukraine and/or Moscow. That would be good. Perhaps Johnson can get another bout (mild - I'm not wishing anything horrible to happen to him) but the thought that he will speak to Putin scares me somewhat.

She’s not going, no.
I’m praying that Johnson won’t be going either

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Feb-22 01:14:43

I’m no conspiracy theorist, but I do find it increasingly difficult to believe that Johnson was as ill as we were led to believe

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Feb-22 01:16:18

Sorry, my above comment was following on from MayBee’s at 00.51

not sure of the incubation period/timescale, but wasn't it fortuitous that ms truss did not fly scheduled to australia;
thus protecting the wider public from risk of infection.
apparently laurence fox is self treating with de-worming medication; seems appropriate.

MayBee70 Tue 01-Feb-22 01:32:25

I seem to recall someone on here saying that they were close to intubing him: no idea who it was or how they had information like that. That’s when it all became very surreal in one way but the virus itself became very real. It’s a night I won’t forget.

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Feb-22 01:44:56

Yes, I know exactly what you mean MayBee
I presumed that Johnson had been intubated. It was at a time when intubation was more commonplace.

FarNorth Tue 01-Feb-22 02:37:40

Of course she could. And very likely she has spread it to other MPs because they thought it was fine to pack themselves in there without masks.
But perhaps they're happy to get it, as part of building up the herd immunity.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 01-Feb-22 08:01:27

On a lighter note, we all know Truss is trying to emulate Mrs Thatcher. Posing in a tank was a hoot, I noticed yesterday that she was wearing one of Thatcher’s pussy cat bowed blouses.

It sounded dismissive of someone’s illness, the severity of it and was appalling. I wouldn’t want anyone to catch this whoever they are, you catch it you never know how it can end.

Very well said. Some of the comments are sickening.

I await a new hair-do. She has acquired the voice, the pussy bow. Her problem is that she has supported selling the U.K. down the river with Brexit. Something Thatcher would never had done.

Thatcher spent a lot of time fighting for what she saw as U.K. interests in Europe, but she always recognised Britains interests.

Thatcher also had a capability and political intelligence that Truss will never have however hard she tries.

Thatcher would never have supported a liar and someone whose moral integrity is completely lacking.

Boris looked ill at his press conferences following his hospitalisation, and he was noticeably breathless.
