I suppose Ixion,I said "40 years ago" because that was the first time I'd come upon a multi-use church.
These days so many have closed and been converted into houses or just left empty it seems to me to be one way to keep them alive - and a part of the community.
The church we went to for the family birthday had 3 beautiful new stained glass panels - I don't know if they were part of the ยฃ750,000 raised to keep it going or not - but apart from the chairs - when you are facing the altar, it is quite clearly a place of worship.
It would be my preference to have these "extra" activities somewhere else - a church hall or community centre but as Grammaretto says, it keeps them alive and serving the community.
